Fr. VJ’s Humor A couple had two little boys ages 8 & 10, who were very mischievous. They were always getting into trouble. The boy’s mother heard that a priest in a down-

town parish has been successful in disci-plining children so she asked if he would speak with her boys. He said he would, individually. So the mother sent her 8 year old first. The priest, a huge man

with a booming voice asked him sternly, “Where is God?” The boy’s mouth

dropped open and he made no response. Then he asked again shaking his finger, “WHERE IS GOD?” The boy ran home and told his brother - “We are in BIG

trouble this time, Dave. God is missing - and they think WE did it!!”

Happy Easter and Wishing Many Blessings to You and Yours!

My Dear Brethren,

I hope all is well. During this time of the Virus, there are so many good people doing things to help others. Fr. VJ and I want to thank all of those who contributed to the food pantry. Right now, we are good. We will let you know when and what the pantry needs as time goes by. Thank you for responding so well. I also want to thank all of you who so generously continue to give to the Church despite this time away from being able to attend Mass. We are as of this writing at 96% of our goal for the Cardinal’s Appeal with 64 contributors thus far. Yesterday, we received a check from the Archdiocese and it couldn’t have come at a better time. It was the rebate from having exceeded our goal last year. Anything over the goal, the parish receives 60% of it back. If you are able to and have now yet contributed to the Cardinal’s Appeal, please consider doing so no matter the amount. Thank you for your generosity. I am truly grateful. In these difficult times, I hope you are taking time to pray. Our relationship with our Lord is most important. God will see us through this. I would like to share a powerful story from my former pastor Msgr. Belford from St. Theresa’s in Staten Island, however this space does not allow. In short, a woman named Elsa was used in sex trafficking and had wound up very ill and evicted from a local motel. She asked the manager to call a priest. Msgr. Belford took her in to the office where she slept all day and then set in motion a plan of recovery through Catholic Community services of Rockland County, a branch of Catholic Charities, which is supported by the Cardinal’s Appeal. Elsa escaped her previous fate of terrible abuse and has had a peaceful and productive life. This a powerful story of redemption and how we are all called to love God with our whole heart and mind and our neighbor as ourselves. God In Action!!! Elsa’s Full story can be found on website and Flocknotes. Let us pray for the grace to go beyond ourselves in being ready and willing to help our neighbor. God bless you all, In Jesus Mary and Joseph, Fr. Ken and Fr. VJ

BEAUTIFUL LAMPS ARE BURNING

When someone asks you to, “Light a candle for me”, or you want a candle lighted for you, to Jesus, Mary or one of the saints...here’s your chance….The essence of this mysterious ligh ng of candles is simple. You “own” a perishable item, which is what your offering is about: You “bought” the candle! A whole burnt offering. (The reason electric candles don’t cut it is because they don’t “go up in smoke!”) The sacramental of burning candles is one of the great gi s of Catholic tradi on; Hurry in the prac ce. Buy the candle. Light it. Kneel or stand, and say your prayers: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, your inten on; lots of signs of the Crosses, maybe a tear! From Varie by Fr. Mark Oliver. This is the essence of prayer: sacrifice. It costs us, in this case reques ng a dona on of $1.00, and like St. John says in the Book of Revela on our prayers rise like incense to heaven!! Our candle is consumed by the fire, the sacrifice and with it our prayers rise to heaven. The Sanctuary Candle by the Tabernacle at both Churches may be purchased for the week. St. Mary St. Andrew’s burns for one week, a seven day candle. Dona-

on for the week is $10.00. Our Lady of Lourdes’ burns for two weeks, a 14 day candle. The dona on is $15.00.

Catholic Charities Parish Counseling Network

Parishioners have access to short term professional counseling at convenient

locations throughout the Archdiocese of New York, including,

Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties. It offers access to more than 120 licensed

mental health professionals to help parish-ioners through issues and crises that can be helped by short term therapy, such as mari-tal problems, parenting, eldercare, job loss,

or bereavement. A maximum of six sessions at a fee of $10.00per session is offered.

Speak with Fr. Ken or a designated parish staff for a referral to Parish Counseling

Network or call 866-962-7487

We pray the pandemic will come to a sudden end. In the meanwhile, when not being able to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we can make a Spiritual Communion. The prayer is as follows: My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Making a spiritual communion can be as efficacious in receiving our Lord corporally as when we attend Mass. Our love and our longing to receive Him in Holy Communion may sup-ply the grace of the Sacrament. So many of you have expressed your sadness and even tears at not being able to attend Mass. This saddens Fr. VJ and I very much. As you have told us, we tell you we miss seeing you on Sundays! These Sundays have been so surreal as a priest. Hopefully for all of us, this will lead to a greater love for our Lord, the Mass and His presence to us in the Holy Eucharist. NOTE: Fr. Ken has been calling everyone to keep in touch and let you know he and Fr. VJ have everyone in their prayers and to see how you are doing. If you have not been called, we do not have your proper phone #. Please call the rectory to update our files.
