Dear Friends of St. Louise, Happy Easter! On April 21, 1962, 57 years ago today, the Seattle World’s Fair opened. It’s easy for me to remem-ber because that is the day my brother Bruce was born. Our family always jokes that the World’s Fair opened in honor of his birth! So this year, Easter Sunday falls on the anniversary of the opening of our World’s Fair. As most of you know, the centerpiece of the Seattle Center for the 1962 World’s Fair was the Space Needle, which ever since has served as an icon of the City of Seattle. The theme of the fair was “Century 21.” Everything about the fair was to prepare the world in general and Seattle in particular for life in the 21st century, a new and future world. This isn’t a bad way for us to think about Easter: Easter lifts humanity to the new and “final age.” Many of the things that were on display at the World’s Fair have long ago passed, like the “Bubbleator,” a large, bub-ble-shaped hydraulic elevator with transparent acrylic glass walls. I remember thinking that it was really cool as a kid – but now it would be terribly dated, and in fact it was removed long ago. Many things remain, like Seattle Opera House, the Coliseum (which is now called Key Arena) and the monorail. There were hopes that the monorail would be extended as a means of transportation to all parts of the city, but that never materialized. However, what really stands out as enduring and as a symbol of the City of Seattle entering into a new age, the “Space Age,” is the Space Needle. The tall, majestic, futuristic tower raised up the whole city, from a somewhat obscure re-gional town to one that is well-known throughout the world. Since the World’s Fair, many worldwide businesses like Mi-crosoft, Amazon and Starbucks have joined Boeing in having their birthplace in Seattle. The resurrection of Jesus raised up simple fishermen and the other women and men who followed him to new heights. These people would have all been forgotten had it not been for Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus has lifted all humanity up to the new and final age of humanity, the age of the very fullness of God’s revelation. The people who first followed Jesus were made new – the people in every age since then are made new – indeed all of Creation is made new – by the Paschal mystery, the totality of God’s saving action through Jesus.

Queridos Amigos de Santa Luisa: ¡Feliz Pascua! El 21 de abril de 1962, un día como hoy hace 57 años, abrió la Feria Mundial en Seattle. Es fácil para mi recordarlo porque ese día nació mi hermano Bruce. ¡Nuestra familia siempre bromea diciendo que la Feria Mundial abrió en honor de su nacimiento! Así que este año, el Domingo de Pascua cae en el aniver-sario de la inauguración de nuestra Feria Mundial. Como la mayoría de ustedes sabe, la pieza central del Seattle Center para la Feria Mundial de 1962 fue la Aguja Espacial (Space Needle), que desde entonces ha servido como ícono de la Ciudad de Seattle. Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) is a long-running St. Louise Parish program aimed at supporting our parishioners with their continued growth in the Christian life and helping them to find a greater sense of intimacy and connection within such a large parish community. It was established with everyone in mind – literally with the goal of every adult parishioner joining in a Renewal Weekend Retreat. Gary’s article continued The Space Needle is a structure that reaches to the heavens, that symbolizes humanity’s venture into space (remember President Kennedy’s announcement in 1961 that the United States would land a man on the moon by the end of the dec-ade). The goal of every Christian is to go far beyond space, to reach heaven. Heaven is much more than a place; rather it is a whole new dimension of existence. Jesus is the “first fruit” of this new life; and when we die with him in Baptism, we are then able to live with him forever. In this new mode of being, Jesus was able to pass through locked doors, and to be in one place one minute and another place the next. He still had his wounds, but he was healed. And this Jesus lifts us up to the heights of the “final age” at every Mass. One day, when we join him in that new mode of being, there will be no more tears, no more suffering, and death itself will be no more. We know that everything in this life will one day pass away. Only three things will endure: faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love. And the very centerpiece of God’s love is the Paschal mystery, which leads us from death to new life in Christ. Easter blessings to you all. Alleluia! He is risen indeed!

Monday-Saturday, volunteers from various parishes take Eucharist to Overlake patients. But, you need to let them know you want to receive it. Because of HIPAA regulations they won’t ask you. You can also call David Gehrig, 425-412-5466, and he can put you on their list.

Saturday mornings beginning May 4 everyone is invited to join in celebrating a novena to the Virgin Mary under her title, "Our Lady of Perpetual Help," at 10AM for nine Saturdays, begin-ning May 4."Our Lady of Perpet-ual Help" is the name given to Mary as depicted in a famous, centuries-old icon in the Byzan-tine style. The icon and the de-votion to Mary it inspires is in the special charge of the Redemp-
torist order of priests. You can see a picture of the icon and read about its history, miracles and symbolism at their web-site at http://www.iconoflove.org/ Although anyone can make a private novena at any time, the Church teaches that there is added efficacy in the union of the faithful at prayer. Holding this public novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a St. Louise tradition, sponsored by the Fil-Am community. Please come! Our Next Forever Young meeting will be Wednesday, April 24, at 9:45AM in the Parish Hall. We’ll learn of the ancient Chinese healing practice of Acupuncture from practitioner Peishan Chen. Peishan will share with us the art and understanding as well as the practical application of acupuncture. Be enriched!

A Day of Celebration
On April 10, Government officials, and leadership from CCS, Sophia Way, New Bethlehem Project, Salt House church, Holy Family Parish, and St. Louise Parish gathered to break ground for the new 24/7 emergency shelter for families and single women experiencing homelessness on the Eastside. The new shelter will be built on the Salt House property in Kirk-land, adjacent to the New Bethlehem Day Center, which occupies the lower level of Salt House Lutheran Church. The land was purchased by the City of Kirkland and donated for this purpose. This $10,000,000 project was funded by city, county, and state governments, and private donors. $2.1 million has been raised by Sophia Way and The New Bethlehem Project, to which St. Louise parishioners contributed a significant share. It’s amazing that this has all happened in one year. The new shelter will house up to 50 family members on the first floor and up to 50 single women on the second floor. It will open in the summer of 2020. St. Louise parishioners have been partners in the New Bethlehem Project from its inception. As one of the speakers at the groundbreaking said, “This is a story of care and collaboration, of volunteering and donations, and a passionate refusal to see other human beings as anything but worthy of respect and dignity as children of God” Thank you, St. Louise community!!!

School Students Get an Easter Break, not a Spring Break Unlike other schools, St. Louise School has a week off from school this coming week, and we get to proudly and loudly call it “Easter Break,” instead of the secular “Spring Break.” All 365 pre-school through 8th grade students in our parish school participat-ed for the past six weeks in the three pillars of Lent: praying, fast-ing, almsgiving. This past Holy Week, the school turned our focus to the theme of Death and Resurrection. These past days in their religion classes, at levels appropriate to their ages, students dis-cussed with their teachers the life cycle, the dying process, and the hope of eternal life that faithful Catholics are promised. Our parish school students also participated in an all-school Holy Thursday liturgy and a Good Friday Stations of the Cross. All of this was directed to lead to today – Easter – where our stu-dents have learned that we now get to celebrate Christ’s Resur-rection, the most important feast of the liturgical year. It’s so im-portant that we’re going to take a week off from school! Happy Easter!

St. Louise Summer Camps – Registration Now Open! St. Louise School is happy to offer four week-long summer camps in July and August! While we are committed to
having FUN, these camps were built on St. Louise’s strong foundation. Whether you sign up for 1, 2, 3 or all 4 weeks, campers will get wet, be challenged with outdoor skills, create, and explore. Our schedule is flexible and offers security, inde-pendence, and stimulation.
Week-long camps will take place Monday - Friday, 9AM- 3:30PM. Each week offers exciting topics: 7/29-8/2 Sports Ex-travaganza; 8/5-8/9 Mad Scientist; 8/12-8/16 Quest; and 8/19-8/23 Splashtastic Adventures of a Theater Star. Celebrate the sunny weather and experience a wonderful life at St. Louise! Camp sessions are held right here on campus in the Lavelle Center and gym.

Divine Mercy Sunday, April 28, 3PM
Come celebrate the feast of Divine Mercy. We will gather in the church at 3PM.
The prayers include exposition of the Blessed Sac-rament, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in song, and Benediction.
The message of devotion to Jesus as Divine Mercy is based on the writing of St. Faustina Kowalska, an un-educated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to the Di-vine Mercy had begun to spread.
The message of mercy is that God loves us—all of us—no matter how great our sins. He wants us to rec-ognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind
simply by remembering A-B-C.
Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow though us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are depend-ent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
Jesus promised St. Faustina that on Divine Mercy Sunday, "The soul that will go to Confes-sion and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punish-ment." Come and take advantage of this incredible promise, “Divine Mercy Sunday.”

Requisitos para las Bodas Comunitarias En la Parroquia de Santa Luisa Las bodas comunitarias son una oportunidad que la iglesia brinda para que formalices tu compromiso de amor con tu pareja, sea que ya lleven tiempo viviendo juntos o que lleven un buen tiempo de novios. No queremos que la falta de medios o alguna otra cosa te impidan estar bien con Dios, la Iglesia y tú pareja. Los requisitos son mínimos. Queremos pues que no haya ningún impedimento para que tu matrimonio sea lícito y valido.

...El artículo del P. Gary continuó. La Aguja Espacial es una estructura que se extiende hasta el cielo, eso simboliza la aventura de la humanidad hacia el es-pacio (recuerden que el Presidente Kennedy anunció en 1961 que los Estados Unidos harían aterrizar un hombre a la luna al final de esa década). El objetivo de todo Cristiano es ir más allá del espacio, llegar al cielo. El cielo es mucho más que un lugar, es más bien toda una nueva dimensión de la existen-cia. Jesús es el “primer fruto” de esta vida nueva; y cuando nosotros morimos con él en el Bautismo, entonces podemos vivir con él para siempre. En esta nueva forma de ser, Jesús pudo pasar a través de las puertas que estaban selladas, y estar en un lugar en un minuto y en otro lugar al siguiente. Él seguía teniendo sus heridas, pero había sanado. Y este Jesús nos eleva a las alturas de la “era final” en cada Misa. Un día, cuando nos reunamos con Él en esa nueva for-ma de existir, no habrá más lágrimas, no más sufrimiento, y la propia muerte no será más. Nosotros sabemos que todo en esta vida morirá algún día. Sólo tres cosas permanecerán: la fe, la esperanza y el amor. La mayor de ellas es el amor. Y la pieza central del amor de Dios es el misterio Pascual, que nos lleva de la muerte a una vida nueva en Cristo. Bendiciones de Pascua para todos ustedes. ¡Aleluya! ¡Él ha resucitado verdaderamente!

(Engineering Building 200) Join us for a first-hand account of the current situation on the Arizona-Mexico border from Kino Border Initiative’s Joanna Williams. Together, we’ll hear stories of hope and despair that will invite us to stand in solidarity with fellow migrants and refugees seeking a better life in our nation. This lecture is free and open to the public!
Joanna Williams, as the Director of Education and Advocacy, is the primary coordinator of the educa-tional and advocacy programs offered by the Kino Border Initiative in the United States, which in-cludes the development and delivery of curricula that is attentive to both the Catholic social tradition and the contemporary realities of border and mi-gration policies, as well as the development and realization of an advocacy policy and plan.
