J uly 20th has been given as the date when churches may re-open for public Masses but that date depends on steady progress being made and maintained in the meantime. What this will mean, in day to day terms, remains to be seen but it is likely there will still be a restriction on numbers and requirements around social distancing, hand hygiene etc. The diocese, together with the neighbouring dioceses in the West of Ireland will issue guidelines and, please God, at local level we will do all in our power to resume some form of public worship at that time. For now, it seems that baptisms, marriages etc cannot take place prior to this date. Funerals continue but with strict guidelines around the number attending ( set at ten people), with no reading, prayers or family participation in the liturgy. This is intended to reduce movement and touching of surfaces. This is difficult for us all but we do our best to comply in the interest of the common good. Your prayers for the deceased and those who mourn are especially important right now. Next Sunday should be First Holy Communion Day but that too, has been deferred with no clear date given, other than it will be when schools re-open. Hopefully next week, we will remember the boys and girls in a special way during Sunday Mass. For those who had planned marriages in the coming weeks and months and who have had to change their dates, the understanding is that if the new date is within six months of the date originally planned, there is no need to contact the Register s Office again but if, beyond six months, there is. For those who have completed a pre-marriage course and filled in paperwork that will suffice and there is no need to do this again. If couples wish to contact me about any of this, they are most welcome to do so. These are times like no other in our living memory and they certainly are testing us. We will continue to do our best nonetheless and to comply with regulations and guidelines given so that we can begin to look forward to something called normality again. Our webcam is certainly a help and, in recent weeks I noticed that where we might have 200 visits to the Parish website on a Sunday, there were over 4100 visits two weeks ago and close on 2000 last weekend as well as visits to our Facebook page. This is a positive but can and will never replace the presence - your presence in our churches.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER 10th May 2020

SO WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?

J uly 20th has been given as the date when churches may re-open for public Masses but that date depends on steady progress being made and maintained in the meantime. What this will mean, in day to day terms, remains to be seen but it is likely there will still be a restriction on numbers and requirements around social distancing, hand hygiene etc.

The diocese, together with the neighbouring dioceses in the West of Ireland will issue guidelines and, please God, at local level we will do all in our power to resume some form of public worship at that time. For now, it seems that baptisms, marriages etc cannot take place prior to this date. Funerals continue but with strict guidelines around the number attending (set at ten people), with no reading, prayers or family participation in the liturgy. For those who had planned marriages in the coming weeks and months and who have had to change their dates, the understanding is that if the new date is within six months of the date originally planned, there is no need to contact the Register’s Office again but if, beyond six months, there is. PLEASE PRAY FOR We remember in community prayer at this time: Teresa Cunnane, Culmore who died during the week, Ellen Kelly (née Duffy), sister of the late Stephen, Carrlackey who died in Stockport. We pray for all who have died due to COVID-19 and for those whose anniversaries occur around this time. May they rest in peace.

COMMUNITY CENTRE Kilmovee Community Centre is open every day from 1.00pm-2.00pm for paying bills, phone top-ups, purchase of recycling bags and essential laundry service. If anyone has any recycling bags please drop off between 1.00pm - 2.00pm only before Wednesday.

2020 MAGAZINE Work has commenced on 14th Edition of Kilkelly Kilmovee Parish magazine. Please email any articles or pictures for inclusion to [email protected]

or drop them into Kilkelly Post Office or send submissions by mail to Kilkelly Kilmovee Magazine, Committee, Kilkelly, Co. Mayo. In these days of lockdown, this may well be the best time to start looking and writing. All welcome!

CHURCHES OF THE PARISH Our churches are open during the day and you are most welcome to call in, spend a while, say a prayer and light a candle. Please use the hand sanitizer supplied when entering and leaving the church. I am thankful to those in Kilkelly, Urlaur and Glann who ensure the church is open each day. I open the church in Kilmovee after morning Mass and it remains open until evening time. Please know that you are welcome.

D IOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK Next Sunday, the third Sunday of May is traditionally the day for the Achonry Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine. The Pilgrimage Mass will be broadcast online from Knock

Basilica on Sunday at 3pm. There will be a special welcome for the pilgrimage groups that traditionally travel to our National Marian Shrine for their own celebrations. Pilgrims are welcome to join the afternoon ceremonies from their homes. The schedule for the afternoon will include the praying of the Rosary at 2.30pm, followed by Mass and Benediction at 3pm. The celebrant will be Fr. Richard Gibbons, PP, Rector at Knock Shrine. In advance of the day, pilgrims may place their petitions online on the Knock Shrine website and these will be placed on the altar for the Mass. Many pilgrims light candles for loved ones and their intentions during their

visit to Knock Shrine and this service is also available online. A candle will be lit at the outdoor candelabra for each request received. See knockshrine.ie for details.

SHAMROCKS’ LOTTO Numbers drawn for the weekend of May 2nd were 3,17 21,45. and there was no winner.

TRÓCAIRE 2020 As mentioned last weekend, many people have enquired about Trócaire’s Lenten Campaign. Clearly the work goes on and the desire to support is obvious. I have received some cash donations and some cheques payable to Trócaire. I sent the cheques to Trócaire and paid €2000.00 from parish funds. This donation was acknowledged with thanks by Trócaire on April 29th. Last year we raised €3610 for Trócaire so I propose that when funds come in, when things settle down, that I will give whatever comes in excess of €2000 to Trócaire. I will lodge the cash received to our Parish account and cash to be received up to the value of €2000 (already paid on-line this week). Thank you for your support and concern. Should you choose you can donate on-line at trocaire.org

A PRAYER IN MAY

M ary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Virgin Mary, Mother of

fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exist in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exists in my life. You know very well how desperate I am, my pain, and how I am bound by these knots. Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life. No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone. Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot.

[Mention your request here] I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all. You are my hope.

O my Lady, you are the only consolation God gives me, the fortification of my feeble strength, the enrichment of my destitution, and, with Christ, the freedom from my chains. Hear my plea. Keep me, guide me, protect me, o safe refuge!

COMMITTEE STATEMENT We regret to announce that the Seosamh Mac Gabhann Summer School 2020 is cancelled due to health and safety concerns relating to COVID-19. While this was a difficult decision to take, the safety of everyone involved was our first priority. The GOOD NEWS is that we will be back bigger and better than ever for our 10th Annual Summer School in 2021! We are also planning some free on-line tuition and sessions for the week of the Summer School from Sunday 28th June to Friday 3rd July with further details to be announced as soon as they are finalised. Bígí linn! Visit www.smgsummerschool.com for details and updates.

KILMOVEE IN BLOOM Would you like to be involved in our “Kilmovee In Bloom” Project? We will deliver a hanging basket or window box, compost and flowers to you. We ask that you plant them up and mind them until the beginning of June when we will collect them and put them up in the village and at the National School so “Kilmovee will be Blooming” when hopefully we can get out and about again. If you would like to take part, please call 094 964 9484 or 094 964 9814 before May 13th and we will arrange delivery of your flowers and materials.

TOWNLAND STONES “Kilmovee’s Best Kept Townland Stone” - This is a competition that has been run by Cois Tine Heritage Committee in the past. It is a competition for the “Best Kept Townland Stone” in Kilmovee. We would like people to clean around and plant flowers at their village stone and send in photos to us by 31st of May.
