Month of MaryLet us look upon our Blessed Mother Mary this month and remember the words of the Magnificat. Look upon the lowly and those who are filled with hunger and fill them with good things. We must all take on this task. We must ask for God’s mercy and teach our children to do the same. Mary considers herself as His servant. May we, too, take a step back and humble ourselves for His work by also looking at those who suffer and are in need and then work to give them all the things that are good. We are to take from the Eucharistic meal and then do as Jesus would want us to do in caring for all of those around us.

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me,and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear himfrom generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm;he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel,in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors,to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.”

– Luke 1:46b–55

Credo (I Believe)Let’s Keep Jesus the Center of Our Day

All of us are guilty of letting the busyness of life get in the way of what truly matters: Jesus. Here are a few ideas to help keep Jesus the center of your day:

Punctuate each day with formal prayer, such as wake-up prayer, blessing of meals, a God-centered ritual for bedtime, and prayer at the sound of emergency police or fire sirens. For example, when a fire siren is heard, some people stop and pray a Hail Mary or Our Father.

Sprinkle conversation with spiritual advice, for exam-ple, “God will provide!” “This, too, will pass.” “Ask Jesus to teach you how to forgive Brian.” “What would Jesus do?”

Create a spiritual environment, for example, crucifix in major rooms, liturgical table decorations (for Advent, Christ-mas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time), religious statues and symbols, a dedicated prayer space.

Name, define, and model virtues that you hold sacred, such as integrity, respect for differences, inclusion and hospi-tality/welcome. Practice one virtue a week and report progress or difficulties during a family meal or meeting.

Read to your child books and make remarks that promote virtuous living, for example, “I saw a woman in the checkout line today who deserves the patience award because...”

Set a spiritual example in casual ways, for instance, “I have to pray about that before I can give you an answer.”

A Gospel Reflection by Father Jason Williams

JOHN 15 :9-17

“No one has greater love than this:to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Saint John’s message in the second reading — “God is love” — is carried over into the Gospel, where Jesus explains what that means for each of us. If God is love and if we are chil-dren of God, then we must strive to love as God loves. In its most basic form, God’s will for us is that we love one another.

What does it mean to love, though? The second half of Jesus’ commandment opens up this reality for us. “Love one another as I love you.” How does Jesus love us? He has loved us with the greatest love that there can be; he has laid down his life for us, his friends. The fullness of God’s love for us is challenging to grasp: we are sinners, we offend God’s good-ness by choosing to do wrong, and yet God loves each of us unconditionally and to the point of sacrificing what is most precious to him — his only Son — in atonement for our sins. What can motivate such love other than God’s desire that we live forever with him? And that is what it means to love someone as God loves us: to desire only that the other will live forever in union with God, where all of us hope to experience the complete happiness of God’s joy in us. May that shared desire grow in each of our hearts so that we can love, even to the point of laying down our lives — our preferences, our ways of thinking, our ambitions — for the good of others. Let us die to self, so that Christ may live through us.

Pensamientos EvangélicosY eso es lo que significa amar a alguien como Dios nos ama: desear solo que el otro

viva para siempre en unión con Dios. “And that is what it means to love someone as God loves us: to desire only that the other will live forever in union with God.”

Our parish is hosting a summer program called TOTUS

TUUS, which means “Totally Yours.” Totus Tuus is a fun and

energetic parish based summer catechetical program for both

grade school age children and middle and high school youth.

Totus Tuus gathers together college students and seminarians

from across the United States onto teaching teams of four in

order to train them and send them out on the road to spread

the Good News of Jesus Christ. The teachers’ youthfulness,

energy, and ability to witness to the faith make them particu-

larly effective with children and young adults. Totus Tuus will

be taking place from June 10-15.

Please register your children entering grades 1-12 for this

great catechetical opportunity to enrich their faith and

relationship with God. As parents, we are called to provide for

the physical and spiritual needs of our children. The gift of

faith is one of the greatest gifts that you can give and foster

within your children. Our prayer is that you will continue to

foster that gift of faith through the Sacraments and educa-

tional opportunities for your family.

Totus Tuus will be taking place from Sun., June 10, thru

Fri., June 15. The program for students entering grades 1-6

will be Mon.-Fri., from 9 AM-2:30 PM. The program for teens

entering grades 7-12 will be Sun.-Thurs., from 7-9 PM. The

cost is $25 per student (family maximum of $75). Please

register by June 6 by visiting our parish website or contact-

ing Cody Egner at (513) 871-5757, ext. 215, or cegner@

eastsideregion.org.

Please consider supporting us as we host this program

by providing snacks for the week, hosting the team of

missionaries for a meal, providing lunch for the team of

missionaries at the parish, making a financial donation to

offset the program cost, or opening your home for two men

or two women to stay with you for the week while they

minister to our youth. To sign up to help in any way, please

contact Cody Egner at (513) 871-5757, ext. 215, or cegner@

eastsideregion.org.

A GRAND REUNION is in the works for the alumni of the schools that have been a part of St. Margaret of Cortona and St. John Vianney parishes over the years as one of the highlights of this year’s Summer Celebration.

Everyone is invited to come back together so they can see how our parish has grown and has a new spirit of life and hope. It will be a time to see old friends and acquaintances, exchange stories, catch up, share a meal and see our plans for the future of the communities that handed on the faith, taught basic life lessons and sent us on into adulthood and the world. Please join us!

WASHINGTON, DC, TRIP: Our 8th graders recently took their annual trip to the nation’s capital (photo 1). Fr. Jason joined them on their trip this year and said the students were very well behaved and seemed to really enjoy and get a lot out of the experience. I’m so glad that our principal, parents and teachers have been able to help our students be part of such a wonderful, educational trip that also included attending Mass in DC. 1 PREGNANCY CENTER EAST BANQUET FOR LIFE: I was able to attend the Ban-quet for Life this year. It is such an important foundation that helps so many women each year. This year Michelle Malkin (photo 2) was the keynote speaker. To learn more about how you can help and be part of this wonderful cause, please visit their website at supportpce. 1 NEW RECTOR: Fr. Anthony Brausch (photo 3) has been appointed as the new president and rector of The Athen-aeum of Ohio Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary of the West. Fr. Benedict O’Cinnsealaigh, who served as rector for the last seven years, will begin his new assignment as pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish. 1 CONGRATULATIONS! Sean Flynn and Whitlee Goode (photo 4) celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony on April 21. Whitlee was one of our RCIA members who entered the church at our Easter Vigil this year. 1 MORE CONGRATULATIONS! Daniel and Marcela Willett (photo 5) convalidated their mar-riage on April 21.
