Be Prepared Be prepared. It’s that simple. As this Advent season opens before us, the Lord Jesus summons us to stand ready for his coming.
At this time of year much of our attention is focused on being prepared for the details that accompany the holiday season. We purchase gifts; we decorate our homes, inside and out; we prepare foods that we eat only during the holidays; we write and send Christmas cards; we attend holiday concerts; we prepare either to welcome family and friends into our homes or arrange for visits to their homes. We really can’t escape the details that make up the season.
Perhaps this Advent is a time to attend to all those details with a different spin. As we prepare to celebrate the feast of Christmas, why not be deliberate about ac-knowledging the presence of the Lord as we go about these tasks? The Lord often comes to us in wonderfully surprising ways. Let us be prepared. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
Advent November 27 to
December 24 Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) lead-ing up to the celebration of Christmas.
The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas). Advent devotions including the Advent Wreath, remind us of the meaning of the season.
We are pleased to announce that the founder of Mary's Meals, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow will be in the United States in December and will be our guest speaker! Mark your calendar now for December 14 @ 6:30pm. Seating is limited. Please contact the Religious Ed office to secure your tickets at [email protected] or 986-2231, or stop in the church office after masses.
