Baptisms

When we go beyond ordering our lives around doing the min-

imal things—fulfilling the requirements of our state in life

and job or ministry—then we can seek the greater things, the

greater One. Our being baptized in the Holy Spirit means that

we already share in divine Life. Relationships to others take

on a whole new meaning because they give us the opportunity

to live like Christ did: for others. In our daily living we, like

John, point to the One who is to come by doing well what is

expected of us. Even more importantly, we point to the One

who is to come by being who we have become in Christ:

Presence of Christ for others; we ourselves are to be the

“mighty one” for others. Because of God’s indwelling, doing

for others and being like Christ collapse into one: whatever it

is we do, we always do so as bearers of Christ because we are

“in Christ Jesus”. For this reason—we are the presence of the

risen Christ for each other—nothing we do is small or incon-

sequential. Everything we do brings the Lord near to those

around us.

Social Justice

The joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the people of our

time, especially of those who are poor or afflicted, are the

joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the followers of

Christ as well. Nothing that is genuinely human fails to find

an echo in their hearts.

~ Second Vatican Council, Gaudium et Spes, 1

Church now is the time to start. The RCIA team is presently

be a collection bin in the gathering space.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul thanks our

parishioners who donated turkeys, canned goods,

other food items, cash and supplemental materials

to this year’s Thanksgiving Food Basket project.

Your generosity along with the help of the Boy Scouts who

packed and donated food, Christ the Teacher School – Day of

Mercy food collection, as well as St. Margaret of Scotland

religious education classes that donated goods, allowed us to

provide Thanksgiving dinner for 37 families.

St. Vincent DePaul Society also thanks a very special young

girl, Kaitlyn, who used her hard earned allowance to buy in-

gredients to make candy cakes. She sold these cakes in our

church’s gathering space and donated the $48 she raised to

SVdP’s Thanksgiving Food Basket Project.

Marriage Moments In the spirit of Advent, practice “waiting on” your spouse to-

or her.

Parenting Pointers Children benefit from our ‘presence’ more than our

‘presents’”. During this Advent ponder the tone that time with your
