FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR APRIL WORSHIP: May we who celebrate with joy the glorious Resurrection of the Lord Jesus remain faith-filled and active disciples here at

St.Peter.

FAITH FORMATION: May we be attentive, as Jesus’ disciples, to living out the Mysteries of Jesus’ Resurrection in these 50 days of Easter.

EVANGELIZATION: May the Easter message of God’s Merciful Love be shared with everyone we know and love. May those away from

the practice of the Faith be drawn in by our Joyful witness to His Divine Mercy.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: May our Easter Joy, this month, inspire us to share the Good News of Christ’s Love and Mercy with those who are the

least among us through concrete acts of service to the poor, the sick, and the lonely.

BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: As repairs to our church facilities are excitedly drawing to a close, we remember with affection and

thanksgiving all who have gone before us, and those here present, who have sacrificed and given of themselves for us to receive first our Faith and second, our beautiful church of St. Peter in which to worship and adore Jesus Christ, the Resurrected One.

SAINT PETER ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 8, 2018

HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR APRIL:

UNIVERSAL INTENTION: For Those Who Have

Responsibility in Economic Matters.

That economists may have the courage to

reject any economy of exclusion and know how

to open new paths.

“If I offer you money, you do not say to me, "I will come tomorrow " No; you accept at once. No one delays, no one makes excuses. The salvation of the soul is offered and no one hurries himself.”

~Saint Ambrose of Milan

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

The Message of Divine Mercy is that God is merciful. He is love itself poured out for us, and He wants no one to escape that merciful love. God wants us to turn to Him with trust and repentance while it is still a time of mercy. Turning to and imploring God’s mercy is the answer to the troubled world. What God most wants of us is to turn to Him with trust. And the first act of trust is: receive His mercy. To trust God is to rely on Him who is mercy itself. The Lord wants us to live with trust in Him in all circumstances. We trust Him because He is God, and He loves us and cares for us.

Not only are we to receive His mercy, but we are to use it, by being merciful to others by our actions, by our words, and by our prayers; in other words by practicing the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy.

~excerpted from “The Message of Divine Mercy: Trust and Mercy Marian Helpers Center; Marian Press

THE FEAST OF THE DIVINE MERCY WHAT IS DIVINE MERCY?

Divine Mercy gets to the heart of Sacred Scripture. In fact, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, "The Gospel is the revelation in Jesus Christ of God’s mercy to sinners" (1849). Right there: That summarizes it. Divine Mercy is the Gospel. It's the good news. And so, it gets to the very center of our faith. Moreover, in the words of Pope Benedict XVI, “Divine Mercy is not a secondary devotion, but an integral dimension of Christian faith and prayer." Benedict even goes so far as to say, "[M]ercy is the central nucleus of the Gospel message." ~Fr. Michael Gaitley; Divine Mercy Explained

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU”

St. Faustina: "April 4, 1937. Low Sunday; that is, the Feast of Mercy. In the morning, after Holy Communion, my soul was immersed in the Godhead. I was united to the Three Divine persons in such a way that when I was united to Jesus, I was simultaneously united to the Father and to the Holy Spirit, My soul was flooded with joy beyond understanding, and the Lord gave me to experience the whole ocean and abyss of His

fathomless mercy. Oh, if only souls would want to understand how much God loves them! All comparisons, even if they were the most tender and the most vehement, are but a mere shadow when set against the reality." (Diary 1073)

ALLELUIA! HE IS RISEN! PRAYER TO THE RISEN CHRIST

in the 50 days of Easter…

Heavenly Father and God of mercy, we no longer look

for Jesus among the dead, for He is alive

and has become the Lord of life. From the waters of death

You raise us with Him and renew Your gift of life within us.

Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ and help us to grow as Your people

toward the fullness of Eternal Life with You.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

REGINA COELI

The Easter prayer Regina Coeli (“Queen of Heaven” in Latin) is a wonderful tribute to our Lord’s resurrection and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Although its origins are unknown, it dates back to the 13th century. Traditionally, it is prayed standing, often at noon, in place of another well-known prayer, the Angelus, during the Easter Season from Holy Saturday until Pentecost.

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. / The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia.

Has risen, as He said, alleluia. /

Pray for us to God, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. / For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

Ask the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers for His harvest. ~Mt 9:38

REFLECTION: The future of the priesthood is in the seminarians of today. Their training needs to make them strong and effective pro-life advocates.

In fact, many of these young men have found their vocation precisely through the pro-life movement.

PRAYER: Lord, let Your call be heard by those whom You want to be priests, and make them strong yet gentle heralds of the Gospel of Life!

As Fr. Ledoux previously indicated, the needed repairs to our pipe organ would cost an estimated $63,000. This amount was borrowed in order to address the urgent needs of the pipe organ at this time. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to help us quickly pay out the loan. Contributions or a donor wishing to cover the cost of the pipe organ repair can be made by simply contacting Karen Broussard at the parish office or speaking directly to Fr. Ledoux about a donation.

Excerpt from a letter by Keith D’Anna, Director of Music, Choir Master and Organist at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette…

The Hofmann Pipe Organ at St. Peter will serve the faith community in Carencro for another 50 to 70 years if the necessary repairs are carried out. It’s rebuilding and renovation would be a testament of the community’s love for the liturgy and worship of Our Lord.

DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE

Centennial News FAITH ESTABLISHED IN LOUISIANA

On April 9, 1682, Robert Sieur de la Salle claimed the lower Mississippi Valley for France and for God by planting the cross on Louisiana soil. Spanish explorers had

travelled the area over 150 years before, but made no claims to territory. It was April 1793, when the Archdiocese of New Orleans was created. Its original title was “The Diocese of Louisiana and the Floridas.” And it was on April 13, 1918 that the announcement of the creation of the Diocese of Lafayette was made public by the administrator of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Fr. Jules Jeanmard.

THIRD CENTENNIAL DEANERY MASS

The Third Centennial Deanery Mass will be on April 13th at 6:30pm at St. Mary Magdelen. St. Mary Magdelen is our oldest Church Parish in the West Deanery and the 8th oldest canonically established Church Parish in the Diocese. Our Centennial Year is well underway and all Clergy and Laity are invited to attend this Mass and reception with Bishop Deshotel. On April 13 in 1918, Jules B. Jeanmard, who was then the Administrator of the Diocese of New Orleans, was sub delegated by the Apostolic Delegate to carry out and begin the actual work of forming the Diocese of Lafayette. Thus, we continue to celebrate our history and hear the call of God for today and tomorrow in our Diocese. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. A multi-cultural musical celebration will begin in church at 6pm before the Mass.

Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares these gifts in love of God and neighbor.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY When the risen Christ encounters His disciples in the locked room He adds a new Beatitude to the ones we’ve heard proclaimed before: “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Stewards of the mysteries of God’s love do not need proof of the risen Christ. They know it because their lives have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who has breathed new life into them and through the Sacrament of the Eucharist which strengthens and sustains them. As stewards of this great gift it is appropriate to reflect on how we in turn add new life into our parish communities.

AID TO THE CHURCH IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

This week, our special collection will be for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe.
