ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS & STUDENTS: We have been informed by the Bishop’s Office that Confirmation will take place here at St. John’s on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 4:30 PM, practice will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 1 PM in the church. Please mark your calendars for this date and inform your Sponsors.

Today's Readings First Reading: Isaiah 35:4-7a Isaiah tells the people to be strong and unafraid. God will save his people, and the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the lame will walk. Streams will come forth in the desert, the sandy ground will become springs of water. Second Reading: James 2:1-5 James encourages the people to never show favoritism. He discusses an usher who escorted a rich man to the best seat, while ignoring a poor man. God chose poor people to be rich in faith, so we should never judge people by their riches. Gospel: Mark 7:31-37 Some people brought a deaf man who could not speak to Jesus and begged him to lay his hand on the man. Jesus opened the man’s ears and cured his speech impediment. He ordered the people not to tell anyone, but they were too amazed to keep this to themselves.

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: New schedules have either been emailed or mailed via the postal service. If you did not receive your schedule please notify the parish office, 610.777.1697 or email:

Dear Family of Faith, Bishop Schlert is asking all 84 parishes in the Diocese of Allentown to have a Day of Prayer and Reparation. It will be on Saturday, September 15 - the Feast of Our Mother of Sorrows from 8 am till 8 pm. There will be silent prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It is intended to be a day where people of the Diocese are encouraged to make quite visits to pray for the victims and survivors of sexual abuse and their families. In our case, here at St. Johns’ the blessed Sacrament will be exposed from 8am till 3:50pm followed by the 4:00 Mass. After Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed again until 8pm, concluding with Benediction. There are sign up sheets at the three vestibules of the church for families and individuals to commit themselves to half hour time slots, so that at all times, there will be someone praying before the Eucharistic Lord. Bishop Schlert is also encouraging the faithful of the Diocese to offer fasting on the tradition Ember Days that follow the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, they are: Wednesday, September 19 through Saturday, September 22. These can be days of partial abstinence from meat (only at the principle meal) and fasting (one principle meal and two smaller meals). Starting Thursday, September 13, all the priests of the diocese for all Thursdays, the day on which Our Lord instituted the Priesthood, will be united in fraternity and doing personal Penance, in reparation for the sins of our brother priests for the offenses against the Body of Christ.

Sunday Afternoon At The Movies “All Saints”

Sunday, September 30 1:30 pm

Justice in Action Ministry will host the viewing of “All Saints”, a 2017 American Christian drama. Based on a true story, this film follows Michael Spurlock who decides to trade his corporate sales career to become a pastor. Unfortunately, his first assignment is to close a tiny Episcopal (Anglican) church in Smyrna, Tennessee and to sell a prime piece of land where it sits. He soon has a change of heart when the church starts to welcome refugees from Karen State, Myanmar

in Southeast Asia. Spurlock now finds himself working with the refugees to turn the land into a working farm to pay the church's bills. Come view this film with other parishioners and gain a broader perspective on migration and on the refugees who seek a new life in our country. Popcorn and soda will be served. Discussion will follow the film, which is rated PG, and runs for 108 minutes. Did You Know?

! According to a United Nations Global Trends study, a record 68.5 million people had been driven from their homes across the world at the end of 2017.

! Refugees who fled across borders to escape conflict and persecution accounted for 25.4 million of that total.

! Most of the remaining millions were “ internally displaced”, meaning driven from their homes to some place sometimes only nominally safe within their own national borders.

! Two-thirds of the world’s refugees come from just five countries: Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Myanmar and Somalia.

! Pope Francis has called on countries working at the Untied Nations to develop a global compact to ensure migration of refugees is safe, legal, and humane.

Season of Creation The Season of Creation (through the Catholic Global Climate Movement) is an annual celebration of prayer

and action to protect creation, celebrated by Christians of all traditions, and our faith leaders have encouraged the faithful to participate. In 2015 Pope Francis released the encyclical Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home). This encyclical issued a powerful message on our moral responsibility to take action on behalf of all creation. This year, the period between the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (September 1) and the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4) has been designated as a special time to focus on our common home and how we can best care for, protect and heal Earth.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph has granted permission for our use of a packet of resources for the next five weeks which will include a quote from Laudato Si’, a reflection question, a suggested action and a prayer. JAM hopes these weekly notices will generate meaningful conversation as we grow in our understanding of our responsibility to care for creation. The first two installments can be found on our parish website www.stjohnsfamilyoffaith.com

A Christian Prayer In Union With Creation Father, we praise you with all your creatures. They came forth from your all-powerful hand; they are yours,

filled with your presence and your tender love. Praise be to you! Son of God, Jesus, through you all things were made. You were formed in the womb of Mary our Mother,

you became a part of this earth, and you gazed upon this world with human eyes. Today you are alive in every creature in your risen glory. Praise be to you!

Holy Spirit, by your light you guide this world toward the Father’s love and accompany creation as it groans in travail. You also dwell in our hearts and you inspire us to do what is good. Praise be to you!

Triune Lord, wondrous community of infinite love, teach us to contemplate you in the beauty of the universe, for all things speak of you. Awaken our praise and thankfulness for every being that you have made. Give us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is.

God of love, show us our place in this world as channels of your love for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight. Enlighten those who possess power and money that they may avoid the sin of indifference, that they may love the common good, advance the weak, and care for this world in which we live. The poor and the earth are crying out. O Lord, seize us with your power and light, help us to protect all life, to prepare for a better future, for coming of your Kingdom of justice, peace, love and beauty. Praise be to you! Amen.
