In Jesus and Mary,

Father Jeff Kegley Pastor

Jesus is Lord!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Let me begin by wishing all our moms a happy Mother’s Day! Our mothers have such a big influence in our lives. My mom passed away when I was just 26 years old and even after all these years, there is still not a day that goes by when I don’t think of her or pray for her soul. The best way we can honor and thank our mothers is to remember them in prayer. Please know that all the intentions of our live stream Mass, offered by the priests this weekend, are offered for all our mothers of our parish both living and deceased. Another way that I like to honor the mothers of our parish each year, is to honor the Blessed Mother by singing “Our Lady of Knock.” The apparition of Our Lady of Knock in County Mayo in Ireland is reported to have occurred on the evening of August 21, 1879. Those who witnessed the miracle ranged in age from five years old to seventy-five. The Roman Catholic Saints website describes the apparition as follows: “Our Lady was wearing a large, brilliant crown and clothed in white garments. On her right was Saint Joseph, his head inclined toward her and on her left Saint John the Evangelist. To the left of Saint John was an altar on which stood a cross and a lamb.” Standing only a few feet off the ground, the Blessed Virgin wore a white cloak and was described by witnesses as being incredibly beautiful. She wore a bright golden crown, and appeared to be praying with her eyes looking toward heaven with her arms bend in front of her with her palms facing inward. Fifteen parishioners stood to witness the apparition for two hours as they recited the rosary. Although it was daylight when the apparition began, the weather turned for the worse and it began to rain heavily. The area around the apparition appeared unaffected, however, as the ground remained dry as long as the vision lasted. She did not speak, but the gable of the church where the manifestation was made was covered with a cloud of light. Saint Joseph, the foster-father of Jesus, also wore white robes and stood on the Virgin’s right. He inclined his head respectfully toward the Blessed Virgin. Saint John the Evangelist wore a miter, and appeared to be preaching as he held a book in his left hand. Since then thousands of people have gone to Knock to pray to Our Lady. Their prayerful, penitential and reverential spirit has been commended again and again by visitors from other lands. No sign of commercialism detracts from the purely religious atmosphere of that hallowed spot. People from all walks of life kneel in humble supplication before the shrine of Our Lady, fully confident that she has sanctified that spot by her apparition. Let us pray that Our Lady of Knock may obtain from her Divine Son, the riches of blessing for our moms this day.

Pope Francis prays for vocations and Covid sufferers

During his Regina Coeli, Pope Francis recalls Vocations Sunday and invites international cooperation to deal with coronavirus pandemic.

Courage to respond to God's call He commented that this Day reminds us of what Jesus said, “that the field of the Kingdom of God requires much work, and we must pray to the Father to send laborers to work in His field. The Pope noted that “Christian existence is always a response to God's call, in any state of life.” He also stressed that “priesthood and the consecrated life require courage and perseverance; and without prayer one cannot continue along this path.” “I invite everyone” said Pope Francis, “to ask the Lord for the gift of good laborers for His Kingdom, with hearts and hands open to His love.” Closeness during pandemic During his words following the recitation of the Regina Coeli, the Pope again expressed his closeness those who are suffering from Covid-19, and to those caring for people stricken by the virus at this time. Pope Francis also expressed his support for an international collaboration that is taking place with various initiatives to respond adequately and effectively to this serious crisis. It is important, he said, “to bring together scientific capacities, in a transparent and impartial way, to find vaccines and treatments and to guarantee universal access to essential technologies that will enable every infected person, in every part of the world, to receive the necessary health care.” Underlining the importance of prayer at this difficult time, the Pope said he had accepted a proposal of the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity that on this coming 14 May, “believers of all religions should unite spiritually for a day of prayer and fasting, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic.” Concluding the Regina Coeli, the Pope addressed a special thought to the Italian based Association “Meter”, which is promoting a National Day for children who are victims of violence, exploitation and indifference. He also remembered Our Lady in this Marian month of May, and encouraged the faithful to spiritually visit Shrines dedicated to Mary during this health emergency.

PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Parish Finance Council is a select group of parishioners known for their spiritual maturity and love

of Christ and the Church, endowed with special competence in financial matters and of prudent

judgement. They offer their time and talents as a Christian service or ministry in the development and

management of the parish’s financial resources so that the parish may effectively pursue its proper

mission of spreading Christ’s Gospel of love.

Parishioners who are interested in serving on the Parish Finance Council are invited to send their resume to Father Jeff Kegley at [email protected].

Dear Parishioners, Parish Giving is the premier electronic on-line giving and payment system for church communities throughout the nation. Parish Giving is a safe, secure and easy way to make on-line parish and church related donations and payments. One major advantage of electronic giving is that it normalizes offertory collection in order to properly budget for our parish. If you are on vacation, work or visiting family and friends and are not able to worship with our parish community on Sunday, Parish Giving enables you to continue the needed financially support for our mission and ministry here at Saint Mary’s. Because of this stability in offertory collections, parishes who encourage parishioners to use electronic giving see a 25% increase in weekly collections. We certainly need that at Saint Mary’s. So I would like to encourage you to sign up for Parish Giving. To do so, please visit our webpage at www.stmarychurchnj.org and click the “Parish Giving” button on the top right of the page. This will bring you to the Parish Giving page for Saint Mary’s. It is very easy to sign up. If you have any questions about Parish Giving, please feel free to call the parish office. Thank you for your consideration and thank you for all your financial support to our parish community of Saint Mary’s. As I keep saying, “we are blessed!” In Jesus and Mary, Father Jeff Kegley Pastor

Please Help!

Like so many families, Saint Mary, Mother of God Church is facing a

serious financial setback because of the Coronavirus pandemic. With no

public Masses, there are no collections, which means no income for weeks.

We depend on your sacrificial offerings in the weekly collections for: Saint

Mary School, parish programs and ministries, employee salaries and

benefits, Church mortgage, utilities and insurance, etc.

We need your help during this crisis. Please prayerfully consider continuing

your financial support by in one of the following ways:

1. Electronic giving: Visit the parish webpage

at stmarychurchnj.org/give to make your donation.

2. Go Fund Me Page (new): Contribute to “Forever St

Mary” at Forever.stmarychurchnj.org

3. Drop off at Parish Office: A secure white mail box is at the door of

the parish office where parishioners can “drop off” their church envelopes.

4. Mail Donations: Saint Mary Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road,

Middletown, N.J. 07748

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

LOCKDOWN Fr. Richard Hendrick, OFM March 13th 2020 Yes there is fear. Yes there is isolation. Yes there is panic buying. Yes there is sickness. Yes there is even death. But, They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise You can hear the birds again. They say that after just a few weeks of quiet The sky is no longer thick with fumes But blue and grey and clear. They say that in the streets of Assisi People are singing to each other across the empty squares, keeping their windows open so that those who are alone may hear the sounds of family around them. They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound. Today a young woman I know is busy spreading fliers with her number through the neighborhood So that the elders may have someone to call on. Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples are preparing to welcome and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting All over the world people are looking at their neighbors in a new way All over the world people are waking up to a new reality To how big we really are.

To how little control we really have. To what really matters. To Love. So we pray and we remember that Yes there is fear. But there does not have to be hate. Yes there is isolation. But there does not have to be loneliness. Yes there is panic buying. But there does not have to be meanness. Yes there is sickness. But there does not have to be disease of the soul Yes there is even death. But there can always be a rebirth of love. Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now. Today, breathe. Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic The birds are singing again The sky is clearing, Spring is coming, And we are always encompassed by Love. Open the windows of your soul And though you may not be able to touch across the empty square, Sing.

State of Our Parish - Adopting a Pew

Our weekly collections are not sufficient to cover expenses nor were they used to pay for completed repairs. We are

offering parishioners an opportunity to ADOPT a PEW to pay for these extraordinary repairs. The pew will be in either

Mary, Mother of God Church or in the Chapel. You will have the option of choosing the pew and its location. The cost is

$1,000. You may pay by installments and upon completion of the payment plan, the plate will be mounted on both ends of

the pew. Thank you for your generosity. God Bless You, Hank Pekarsky - Business Manager

Please consider this opportunity to honor your loved ones while preserving the beauty of our Parish.
