In Prayer

We keep in prayer the sick and infirm of our parishes.

We pray and work for peace in our homes and our

world; for unity among all Christians; the victims of

oppression, prejudice, violence or hate; for a greater

respect, for all human life, from conception to natural

death; and for all the faithful departed.

Environmental Stewardship

“Stop for a moment. Look! Let a tiny aspect of nature

come into focus. Admire. Notice peace and joy within

you. Sense the mystery. When enriched move on,

only to return later. Gradually the doors of your

perception are cleansed: you see beyond, and glimpse

the divine source.” Finding God in a Leaf: the

Mysticism of Laudato Si by Brian Grogan, SJ (pg. 34)

Diocesan Vocations

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time -- August

29, 2021 “Be doers of the word, and not merely

hearers who deceive themselves.” Jesus is the Word

who calls you to serve Him in truth. Is He inviting

you to priesthood, diaconate or the consecrated life?

Talk to Fr. Shane Lynch or Fr. Christoper Carrara,

[email protected] or Cathy Russell, the Diocesan

Vocation Coordinator at (315)393-2920, ext.

1450/[email protected]. See us also on Facebook

or at www.myvocation.net

August 29: TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN

ORDINARY TIME Readings: Deut. 4:1-2, 6-8/Jas

1:17-18, 21b-22, 27/Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 James tells us in the second reading: Be doers of the

word and not hearers only, deluding yourself. It is so

easy just to go through the motions: show up at mass,

"say" your prayers, put on a good show. We may

even add some ministry or volunteer for something at

the parish because it is what is expected of us. But

where is our heart? If we truly love God, our hearts

will overflow to become doers of the Word. If our

heart isn't in it, we will soon become tired and

unhappy. True conversion happens when our hearts

are converted, when it isn't just an external show put

on for our neighbors to see. A good place to start is to

examine ourselves, and if we find anything that needs

reconciling, don't be afraid to bring it to the

confessional.

COVID Safety – Current Requirements

Parishioners who are fully vaccinated are not

required to wear a face mask or social distance at

Mass. HOWEVER…

• Children under the age of 12 who are not vaccine

eligible and those under the age of 16 who have not

been vaccinated, may accompany and be seated

with a vaccinated adult, but MUST wear a mask.

This is being asked of us not only by the government,

but more importantly, by our Bishop.

• All who prefer to continue wearing facial covering

and social distancing are free to do so.

• Those who are not fully vaccinated should observe

social distancing of six feet from individuals not in

their household. A face mask is required at Mass

except when receiving Holy Communion.

• Even if vaccinated, we ask you to respect the 6-foot

social distance from others who are wearing a mask.

Diocesan News

A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP LAVALLEY As the coronavirus crisis continues, we see

widespread divisions arising between those who are

vaccinated and those who are not. That division

should not spill over into our pews. While we

strongly encourage vaccinations, we need to

recognize that there are a variety of reasons why

individuals might choose not to be vaccinated. Some

have personal health conditions that put them at higher risk of suffering serious side effects of the

vaccine. Some are allergic to it. We should respect

such concerns. We are a welcoming and supportive

community of faith. When differences arise, we show

patience, understanding and compassion. Let us

continue to pray for our families as we meet all the

challenges in staying healthy and supporting one

another in the midst of this pandemic. St. Joseph,

Patron of Families, Pray for us.
