Remembrance Day Thank you to everyone who bought a poppy in
support of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy
Appeal; the House Captains proudly informed me
that they’d sold out on Friday. It usually takes a
few weeks before we find out how much was
raised, we will share the total with you when we
hear.
We held a two minute
silence in school today at
11:00am to remember all
those who have lost their
lives during war.

Cuddle Up with a Good Book!
This was recently shared with our staff who love it!
Sharing books/ comics/ newspapers (in any
language) with your child is such an important way
to spend time together.
We’d love to receive photos of you reading with
your child. Please email them to
[email protected] and we will share them
in the newsletter.
Michael Rosen gives some tips for reading bedtime
stories with your child.

Year 6 Visitor Last week, the
children in Year 6
were very lucky to
finish their World
War 2 topic with a
visit from Beryl
Giller, a local
resident who has
lived in the local
area throughout her life, and who kindly shared
her experiences of living here during the war. The
children had prepared questions for Beryl and
were given an insight into what it was like here
during the Blitz, the effects of rationing and the
roles women and teenage girls had to take on at
that time. Beryl is a very enthralling speaker and
the children really depended their understanding
of how WW2 affected our local area. We cannot
thank her enough for being so generous with her
time.

Cold Weather As it gets colder outside,
please make sure you send
your child to school
appropriately dressed for
the weather. Warm
clothes and a waterproof
coat are necessary for this
time of year. It is
important that the children get fresh air and spend
time outdoors. We do not allow children to stay
indoors when it is cold. If the cold virus is around,
we will pick it up regardless of the weather! _________________________________
A Message for Drivers If you drive to school to collect
your child/ drop them off, we
urge you to turn off your engine
whilst you are waiting outside
school. We all have a duty to keep
our children safe, including
reducing pollution in the air they
breathe.

Thunks to get you Thinking!
Key Stage 1 Thunk
Key Stage 2 Thunk
Thought for the Week
Learning Power Focus
This week are focusing on
continually improving by being a
‘Try Again Tiger’. You can show your teacher that you are a Try Again Tiger by:
- Regularly reviewing your work; - Identifying the best bits of your work; - Improving one thing at
once; - Trying to be better than
last time; - Taking small steps; - Not comparing yourself to
others, only yourself!
Current Affairs
During the Rugby World Cup, the England rugby
team were fined £2,000 for crossing the halfway
line on the pitch as they lined up before the
semi-final whilst the New Zealand team were
performing the haka (a traditional Māori
war dance). World Rugby rules state that teams
must remain within their own half of the pitch to
receive the haka. However Welsh rugby writer,
Stephen Jones, has called for the All Blacks to stop
the haka altogether, saying it is a 'means of rank
bullying on and off the field'.
But the New Zealand team believe that performing
the ritual of the haka unites the team. As author
James Kerr wrote in his book about the All Blacks,
“performing the haka before each match
showcases the team’s precision
and intense determination. This ritual connects the
team spiritually.”
Things to talk about at home...
● Did you watch any of the Rugby World Cup
this year? Do you enjoy watching sport?
● Have you heard or seen the ‘haka’ before?
● Do you think that the New Zealand ‘All
Blacks’ should be allowed to perform the
haka at the start of a sports match?
● Do you think the other team should be
allowed to respond? Do you think it was
fair the England team were punished for
crossing the halfway line during the haka?
