ties in our country - a university that will make a difference by creating benchmarks in all important domains in the field of higher education.

As an inexhaustible resource for the whole world, we human beings can play a very positive and vital role to transform our country into a de-veloped nation in the years to come - a vision that was stressed by our former President Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. A country’s economic prog-ress is dependent on several critical factors and the quality of our human resources is one of the most important factors. The economic progress should not be measured only by the number or length of the skyscrapers in the country, but by the quality of our humanism and by our commit-ment to humanity. In this regard, higher education is the key to making available a large pool of skilled manpower for our country. You all can truly become a harbinger of peace and change around.

Finally, dear friends, keep setting your targets high and pursue them relentlessly, take responsibility for your own life, be self disciplined, con-tinue to read a lot, manage your time professionally, take risks coura-geously, keep going despite setbacks and failures, love what you do and find a way to win. Let the inspiring words of Swami Vivekananda be always your guide: “ARISE! AWAKE! AND STOP NOT UNTIL THE GOAL IS REACHED.”

May God bless you and all your endeavours.

We are the choices we make...

Dear Graduates of 2018... A convocation is always a celebration. A cele-bration because it marks a milestone in one’s life – no two individuals reach such milestones in the same way. The journeys are always different – but all of us hope that our journeys will be meaningful; and, that is why, at an earlier convocation, we celebrated this particular aspect of ‘Journeying in hope’.

This evening is all about you - we celebrate your success in reaching a sig-nificant milestone on your own individual journeys - whether here on cam-pus or by distance learning. Let me wholeheartedly congratulate you all on your achievements. I am sure you are immensely proud of yourselves on arriving at this goal.

You have been intimate players here at the University for the last two, three or four years… It has brought all of us much joy to hear you say, again and again, that Don Bosco University is a good place to be in, to learn, to work, and to grow! It is you as our ambassadors, and your achievements, that will tell the world about what an ideal Don Bosco University Graduate looks like.

During your years here, you would have realized that this University has been designed to provide you with the best of ambiance to grow and de-velop, to blossom into the leaders of tomorrow…

- leaders with a human face, dependable persons- leaders with a vision who leave significant footprints wherever they find themselves- leaders passionate about making a change in the lives of the less privileged

A few years ago, we had as the theme for the year the concept of ‘Mo-ments of Grace’

- moments that cannot be manipulated…- moments that come to us most simply as gift when we live in such a way as to be open to them… - moments that offer us with choices and opportunities…

When we do not grasp them, they evaporate away in plain sight, and be-come the sad tales of yesterday! Graced moments of opportunity, lost be-cause we failed to grab them!!

As a parting message, let me say one more time: be aware of, and be sensi-tive to the moments of grace, the choices, which present themselves in the humdrum business of daily life.

You will ask, and rightly so, if grace is so wonderful, why do we have such difficulty recognizing and accepting it? Maybe, it is so because grace is not

always gentle or attractive - it often comes disguised as loss or failure, set back or unwelcome change…

For grace to be grace, it must give us things we didn’t know we needed, and take us places where we didn’t want to go.

- None of us knows what the next change is going to be... - We do not know either what unexpected opportunity is just around the corner...- We do not know what events await us that will shake us and change the tenor of our lives…

But we do know that the road ahead offers us a large canvass to work on, replete with infinite possibilities and choices for years to come!

As you traverse that road, uniquely your own…- Be passionate about what you do;- Focus on reaching your destination;- Treat everyone and everything with respect and compassion;- Undergird your decisions with the values you have learnt here.

Above all, don’t forget to stop every now and then, to reflect for a moment, and to marvel at the workings of grace in your life…!

Our theme for this year says, ‘We are the choices we make!’ Life is all about ‘choices’... They define the tone and the tenor of our journey through life...

***** ***** *****

Let me wish you an abundance of God’s blessings as you look for that unique niche that only you can fill; and, having found it, embrace it with all the passion at your command!

Your future is in your hands… Carpe Diem! Seize the Day!

Message from the Registrar

Dear Graduates of the Seventh Convocation,

You are on stage today. You are our heroes and heroines. We all join you to celebrate your success. When the curtains close and you move out of the convocation stage you will move on to another stage – the world (“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players” – Shakespeare). Unlike on the convo-cation stage, the world-stage is not all glitter and light. Not all are heroes and heroines. The spot light may not shine on you at every move. On that stage you will begin to experience that life is a mix of success and failure, glory and gloom, friendship and betrayal, luck and bad luck, justice and injustice, good and evil.

On that world-stage you will need to make daily choices. Which actor will you be on this stage?

Will you be the actor who brings cheer and hope in the midst of gloom? Will you be a lucky charm for others? Will you strive for justice? Will you be a friend even when hemmed in by betrayal? Will you choose the good even when surrounded by evil? Will the world become better because you are on the stage?

Your answers to these questions will indicate if you are truly educated. The part you play on the world-stage will indicate if the University’s efforts to produce intellectually competent, socially committed, morally upright and spiritually inspired citizens have borne fruit.

Get up each day to play your part even when the spot light is not focused on you. Irrespective of what work you will begin to do or what further studies you will undertake, deliver excellence in every little thing you do. Be confident, be wise, be courteous, be just, be a friend, be good, serve! When you do every little thing with this spirit, there will be no end to your success and as Jesus told his disciples, God’s grace will shine on you and you will hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness” (Mt 25:23). Then, your family, the institutions and the country you serve will become stages on which others can explore and expand their possibilities and in doing so you will find that your days on the stage have made you live your life to the fullest (the University’s motto).

As you graduate and move out of Assam Don Bosco University I wish you great success. God be with you as you ascend the world-stage.

I vividly remember the first day of my engineering life when I stepped into the quadrangle to attend the Academic Year Open-ing function with my parents. We sat among many others who too were new as well as and enthusiastic for their very new journey of being a ‘Bosconian’. After few speeches and introductory ad-dresses came the moment which shook me and inspired me to the core for the very first time at the University. Felicitation of the semester top-pers. To my surprise I noticed that the girls outnumbered the boys with their excellent performances and that very moment instilled in me an as-piration to be one of them someday.

This was just the beginning as the University offered me opportunities a number of times since, to stand on the same dias to share my thoughts and represent the University in various occasions. These included hosting the Fresher’s program, organizing dance competitions like Dancing Toes, participating in debate and quiz competitions, organizing Swastyayan, representing the University at Brahmaputra Mahotsav (Tezpur Univer-sity), participating at an oral paper presentation event at Jawaharlal Ne-hru University (Delhi), performing in various co-curricular activities during Prajyukttam and extra-curricular activities under D-verve starting from music to dance to fine arts to what not. I had to juggle a lot of things at the same time and things seemed to become hectic and sometimes I used to feel overwhelmed when I found myself maintaining both my academics as well as extra hours of effort on various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the college. Now when I look back I actually understand their importance which was always understated or rather hidden from my sight and which in turn helped me to shape myself into the person that I am today.

My journey had many ups and downs. But whenever I’m down I had friends and teachers who supported me and helped me back up; and even pushed to the right track. The strength of this university is that it has a dedicated team of faculty and staff who are ever ready to help us. I learned a valuable lesson here which made me an ‘engineer with a heart, an engineer who is socially committed’ and, a person who takes up responsibilities and works towards changes that I want to see rather than waiting for others to act.

As the motto of our University ‘Carpe Diem’urges, it is a high time we seize the opportunities and get involved in bringing about changes that we want to see. Lastly, I thank the Almighty and my loving parents, my constant pillars of motivation throughout my journey without whose blessings I wouldn’t stand where I stand today. And, to my teachers and friends – thank you. You helped me and guided me throughout my time here at the university. I will cherish the memories we created together here for a long long time. Thank you everyone for all the faith that you have in me and I shall keep this promise that wherever I go I shall keep the “Bosconian” vibe alive in me and be an asset to our society and nation.

Signing out for the last time….

I had two fantastic years embracing University life.

The University has a beautiful campus and a wonderful community of stu-dents and teachers that come together to make the experience unique and engaging. Don Bosco University had given me, above all things, an environment where diversity, hard work, commitment, fun-time, and school-spirit could all be harnessed and moulded together to transform lives. Ask anyone what they felt the moment their hearts took their first dip in the campus waters and they will tell you the same. Every little en-counter and experience I gained here at the University had been enriching and will be imprinted in my memory for a lifetime.

My University life was a mixture of different experiences where there were encounters with real life situations which created memories.

When I first joined the University, I felt burdened by the hectic schedule of the academic calendar especially with two class tests per semester which we cannot miss. Eventually I learned to roll and involved myself with other activities of the University.

Being in a hostel for the first time in my life, I had imagined that I would be homesick and lonely but the myriad activities in the University and end-less chatter with friends left no space for home sickness and loneliness. There were social activities, academic activities plus being an avid reader of fiction kept me occupied and I had the best time in my life. The kind and gentle nature of the hostel wardens abundantly contributed to my happy and enjoyable stay.

My experience at the University taught to grab whatever opportunity that came my way; participate in as many events as I could because these also counted, these mattered and they contributed to my education. I’d never dreamt of playing sports such as football, basketball and others but I am glad that I did because I learned to value team spirit and helped me create memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. At the University, learning

never ended. The different co-curricular activities, the workshops which started from 8am and continued till 9pm, the talks on the morning assemblies, the different festivals and events celebrated, I felt that the University life is where I learned to be truly myself and let go of the inhibitions that were in me. I learned to meet my own deadlines even with the many activities I was involved in.

During my two years here in the University, I got the opportunity to travel to the flood affected areas of Morigaon district where I saw firsthand the resilience of people despite the disaster. There were no economic, political or religious barriers when people stayed together after the disaster. I spoke to few people who were flood victims and the smiles in their faces in such situations taught me a very valuable lesson not to give up on life no matter the circumstances.

Having a fieldwork placement under Swastyayan helped me understand the meaning of education through outreach pro-grammes. The children were naughty but they were all nice and I learned to be patient and friendly which endeared me to the children of the community. The Community Self Help Week was such a good idea to fund the outreach programmes of the University and should be a model to other institutions. Another rewarding experience was being a part of the International Student Volunteer Exchange Programme in June 2017. I met and made friends with students from Ireland and learned about their culture. I cherished the laughs we shared, the feeling of satisfaction after the murals and paintings on the walls Angan-wadis we renovated were done, the moments spent with the people in the community and learning from them.

Salute to all my teachers. They were the most wonderful people that I have ever met. They saw my potentials and motivated me to strive for competency. I cannot thank them enough. The non-teaching staff members were also the most hardworking and worked endlessly to help ease our work and contributed to my happy and enjoyable experience in the campus. The most rewarding thing during my two years was the many great friends I found, whom I will never forget in my life. Their kindness, the smiles and laughters we shared, the struggles we faced together and the amazing lessons learned through our interac-tions. These were memories worth cherishing forever. My friends gave me strength and comfort when I was in need. Some of them were my knights in shining armour.

The campus at Tapesia is also one which gave me a peace of mind. I truly miss the casual evening stroll I had with my friends and listened to the insects humming or having silly arguments while sitting at our spot on the stone painted white in the middle of the road. The ‘stuff’ going on in the hostel created nostalgic memories. Examination time was the time when we ran door to door with a pendrive in our hands and shared movies. Simple things such as seeing wild elephants during the night time in the campus made me feel the exotic and exciting environment of the University. The open air platform for events such as musical evenings and movie screenings was one distinguishing feature of the University campus which I liked and enjoyed the most. These experiences made me smile at my own life and I can proudly say that I am truly blessed. I am honoured and privileged to be a Bosconian.

It is indeed a great pleasure to be a part of this University for 2 years and a number of people played vital roles in helping me graduate and attain this degree. I would like to thank Assam Don Bosco University, course in-structors, my teachers, staff and management from the core of my heart for their cooperation and motivation, and for the wonderful time I spent in the University.

Being in the University for the past two years has been one of the best things that happened in my life. The University inspired me to achieve a level higher than I thought I could. I discovered a passion for learning and exploring things in a better way for which I will remain thankful forever.

Hostel life was the best part, although there were certain rules and regu-lations but after some initial hiccups I managed to fit in. I must say that the strict rules did a lot of good to me and my friends in helping us be-come rational human beings. The memories of those days will always bring a smile to my face.

I would like to share a few lines which have been inspiring me in my life. “Knowing who you are will help you when it’s time to fight. Fight for the job you want, fight for the people who mean the most to you and fight for the kind of world you want to live in. It will help when people say that’s impossible or you can’t do that. Look, if you take the unexpected opportunities when they come up, if you know yourself, and if you fight for what you believe in, I can promise that you will live a life that is rich with meaning”.

Thank you Don Bosco University! Thank you for being exactly what I needed; for teaching me so much –both about the world and about myself. I will forever hold you near to my heart. You brought me the most sincere friends I have ever had. I thank God for these people in my life, and I would never have met them if we hadn’t gotten together to attend this University. You brought us all together. You gave me the exact friends I have been praying for. I will always be there to extend any help I can to the University! Thank you, once again.

My university experiences had been amazing. I learned and experienced so many new things in these two years, and it had gone by so fast. ADBU is a very welcoming place, and from the first day, I felt at home here. I made many new friends from different backgrounds.

Classroom teachings were great and I enjoyed each one of them. The depth and detail of what I learned was far beyond my BE experience. It was just amazing to think that even the tiniest details on something can have such a huge impact. The teachers were really great at explaining every single detail of the topics we learned. That is probably the best part of the university. It introduced so many new concepts that changed our view of the world.

When I first came to the university one thing which touched my heart was that many of the student gave free tuition classes to the poor students of local area which was a great initiative by ADBU. Along with book knowl-edge, the University imparts ways and knowledge to become a complete person. Thank you to all my teachers and dear friends for being a part of my journey.

Let me start this writing with congratulating all the students who are grad-uating today, especially my classmates. Every end has a new beginning. Today might be the last day for some of us as students, but I know that learning never ends. When I joined the University, I was ready to learn, to find new friends, to explore life and my own self. I am glad that my teach-ers and my friends were always there for me in every step of the way. I can confidently say today that I made the right decision in joining this University. Assam Don Bosco University has truly been my second home, because, at the beginning I knew no one in the University and was not aware of the culture and the tradition of the university but as time passed on, I found amazing new friends and faculties as my guides. The environment and the people of this university were so welcoming and helpful.

The good experiences that I got here of course does not mean that I did not have to face my share of discomfort and challenge, but these challenges made me a stronger and more confident person today. Every little encounter and experience that I gained here were enriching and will linger in m memories forever. Talking from a graduating student’s perspective, I believe the stories created beyond the classrooms had been equally helpful to the graduates. Everyone here had their own share of excitement and stories that they will carry with them. The teaching style, the lectures, and the interactions were very different from what I had experienced before. I had friends and lecturers who were eager to help and guide me and for that I am really grateful.

My special thanks goes to Dr. Pranab Das, our HoD for supporting me throughout and sharing his valuable knowledge about life and his experiences. I am also thankful to the faculty and staffs for supporting not only me but other students and for teaching us how we can contribute towards our family and our society. I have to admit that our faculty members are very hard-working and they constantly update themselves in terms of new developments in technology or any other field so that they can teach us about new trends and their applications.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Finally, I would like to thank Don Bosco University for giving me a new vision to see and explore the world and find new op-portunities. Thanks a ton!

A bird sitting in on tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because the trust is not on the branch but on its own wings.

Knowing one’s self worth is very important. This life is ours and only we are entitled to give it a definition. Positivity, love and warmth are always supe-rior to negativity. We often surrender ourselves to other’s criticisms. We tend to make certificates and recognitions as our identity. But life is much broader and greater than any such measuring tools can ever measure! It is important to feel good about ourselves, only then we can bounce back even when we fall. We tend to anticipate results without actually working towards it. There is no substitution to hard work. We must be prepared to start from scratch at any point in life. While we are impatient, if we look around us we will find many who are fighting more difficult battles than us gracefully without any complain. Giving up is never an option. There is a beauty in walking alone. It makes us confident, strong, and courageous

and above all makes us realize what we are capable of. It prepares us for the next phase. We are all we have got. Impossible is nothing. Today, I dream of something greater than myself. I am aware of the ground realities; even then, my inner self inspires me to go for it. It took me two years to understand it. Thank you Assam Don Bosco University for igniting the spark again.

Hi there!! Well, how do I begin the story of my journey at the University... I always thought that university life would be dull and boring so I decided not to go for further studies, but, one day I met one of the teachers from my college who told me about Don Bosco University and about taking up MSc Psychology. She also said that ‘this is a good university and the teach-ers are also very good’. I went home and told my parents about the univer-sity but I was still confused then, still not sure about going for higher stud-ies. Even after I made up my mind to join the University and got through the entrance test, there were a number of questions in my mind. How will I adapt myself with a hostel life? What about the environment? How do I adjust with new friends? The questions were endless.

Well, to cut it short, I bade farewell to my parents on 16th August 2016 and joined the University with my parents voice ringing in my ear “Do well, work hard and make us proud”. In the hostel I met new friends and also some old friends from college. It was not as bad as I had thought then. I usually had rough nights as I was homesick always at night, but then, a prayer to God would help me make it through those nights. Tick! Tock! Time flew by and before I realized we were in the last semester.

The last semester posed a real challenge for me. There was a lot to complete in a day. I would stay up really late and then get up early in the morning. There were times that I was on the verge of giving up, but I knew that God would help me through as long as I help myself; so, I gave my best. Every Friday we would go for a fieldwork, and I learned a lot from it. I encountered many people in the field and got a chance to practice what we learned in the classroom. Then, there were our faculty supervi-sors who always encouraged and guided us to the right way of dealing with people we encountered during these days. I also had my 90 days of internship during my 4th semester and it was from this 90 days of internship that I really learned a lot and was able to use my skills in the field counselling. I was exposed to a lot of new things – I visited different organisations that are established in Shillong and learned about different services that are available for drug addicts and alcoholics. I also got involved in outreach programmes and conducted awareness programmes on adolescent health issues.

Lastly, I am glad that with God’s help and my teachers’ guidance I managed to make my parents proud. I thank my teachers who imparted knowledge and nurtured me with kindness and wisdom. The University provides an opportunity to grow and gain knowledge for each and every student that values education. I am really going to miss this university as this is the place where I met the best friends I have ever had. Hostel was a second home to me and the wardens – my second parents who looked after me with love and care. My best wishes to the University for all its future endeavours. Thank you! Assam Don Bosco University! Carpe Diem! Juniors, make your lives extraordinary.

Doing Masters in Physics is a wonderful tool in this world that opens many doors of opportunity. I would like to share few experiences of my journey, which brought me closer to my goals. When I came to the University for the first time, I was a little scared as I had never stayed away from home. However, my love for Physics was so strong that it became a weapon to cut down all my fears, all my obstacles and helped me navigate smoothly to reach my destination safely.

However had this love not been nurtured and guided by my teachers at the University, I know that I would not be where I am today. I still remember the day I was asked to give a presentation in front of the faculty members and the classmates for the first time. The presentation was not up to the mark and my weaknesses and incompetence was exposed in front of the whole class and my teachers. That day I made a promise to myself that

The past three years had been the best part of my life. After completing a Diploma in Civil Engineering, I joined this University in July 2015 for my B.Tech. All the good things things I had heard about the university proved to be true.

Let me start from the beginning. The admission process began with an en-trance, followed by interview. It was my first interview ever, and my heart was pounding because I wanted to get admitted so bad and when, at last, the list of selected candidates was displayed, Boom! I got in. I was admitted to the university hostel too. On the very first day when I joined the hostel I made friends quickly as they were friendly. And hostel life was never boring for me from then on.

On 13 July 2015 the very first day of class, my roommate and I were the first to reach the 3rd semester classroom. You might still be wondering why

I was in the 3rd semester classroom, well, my admission was a lateral entry (having done a diploma in Engineering). As days went by, I made many friends, and even teachers became my friends. One day when our teacher Mr. Suman Baruah asked us to give an example of Open Channel flow, I joked and said “Ribaaaarrr” instead of “River”. The whole class had a good laugh; there were many such small things that made life in the university memorable.

During our 4th semester, we had our engineering geology laboratory classes, and I always thought that if I had not pursued civil engineering, geology might be a good subject too. It gives you the insight into the history of the earth and I was always interested at the earth’s formation from the beginnings of time.

When we were in 5th semester, we had our Mini Project and the topic we chose was “Influence of Sawdust on Compressive Strength of Concrete” & “Influence of Coconut fiber on Compressive Strength of Concrete”. When we had to prepare the con-crete mix, I thought that a part of the water for the concrete mix was my sweat (as I always sweat a lot). Doing this Mini project led us to different parts of Guwahati in search of Coconut fiber. After our 5th semester exam, we had our “Comprehensive Survey Camp” conducted at Tapesia Gardens, the main campus of the University. At the end of the day. after the completion of our survey works we roamed about, joked and guess what, we did the mannequin challenge too.

Well, the last semester went in a blink of an eye! We had our “Major Project” to be done. However, the bad news was that our guide Prof. N.N Patwori met with an accident, and we thought we might not complete our Major Project on time; but with hard work and determination, we did complete it on time.

It is time for us to get ready for the big change but still we had our enjoyment, our fun. The University life came to an end, but the learning will not end even after our graduation.

Let me conclude by thanking my parents, the University Administration, Teachers, Staff, Classmates, Friends, and the list goes on, for their help, support, guidance in bringing me to where I am today. Above all, I thank the Lord for His blessings.

I will do whatever it takes to push myself beyond limits. So, when the next time came around, my presentation was very much appreciated by one and all. I realize that, one does not have any limit. If you push yourself hard enough, what you can achieve will surprise you.

The workshops I attended and the internships I did were really helpful in terms of gathering huge knowledge about my proj-ect topic, ‘Cosmology’. I did everything possible from my end to understand the concept and managed to make the project a worthwhile assignment which I hope will get reflected in my future academic records. I was guided by our H.O.D so well in this project that resulted in a successful presentation in my final semester. I convey my gratitude to all my teachers for their guidance and support in helping me get what I desired, to achieve what I wanted and to reach where I wanted.

However Post Graduation is not an end goal in itself, it is instead a part of the larger journey of life. As we all know, life is a journey and all accomplishments should be taken as a new starting point for further achievements.

On reminiscing, two years back, I was in a place with a lot of fear, anxiet-ies and doubts. I wondered what I was going to do for the next two years, how was I going to build and mould myself? After completing a degree in Engineering I was worried about having to study in a whole new institution. But, a decision had to be made and I joined Don Bosco University which turned out to be the right choice for my higher studies. The two years at the University had been a huge transforming journey for me. The little time that I had spent in this college left me with memories that will last for a lifetime.

I cherish many happy moments in Assam Don Bosco University, but the one I hold very close to my heart was the Orientation Program conducted by Father Bevan Rodriguez Mukhim. It was one of the most fun day I ever had. The programme was organized very well, we sang songs, played some fun games and enjoyed a lot with other new students and found new friends through that programme. I felt a little embarrassed when he asked me to dance solo in front of everyone but that was compensated by me winning in one game which he organised. The jokes he cracked made us laugh till our cheeks ache. Most importantly, we learned life skills and values of life, essential for our personal and professional growth.

For me, DBU is not just an educational institution, it is also a place where you can build and groom yourself in all aspects including socially, morally and ethically. I will always cherish the moments and days spent here for the rest of my life. My gratitude goes to the management and teachers who work tirelessly to make this institution one of the best in the North East.

My 3 years at Assam Don Bosco was an amazing experience. I had learned and experienced so many new things in such a short period of time. Also I learned many life lessons which I would not learn elsewhere. The main reason for me going to this university was to learn new things and at the same time get a degree. I think that personal development is as important as academic development, also, to have the courage and willingness to learn from one’s mistakes. Things go wrong in this life, and when they do, it is never wise to look back at what had happened and ‘look back in anger’. What happened happened; nothing we do can change the past, but the only thing we can do is to learn from it. Before joining DBU, I did not know what I should be when I grow up and I hardly thought about my future and career, but, as I graduate from the University, I now have a clear thought on what I want to be in the future. Thank you DBU for helping me grow up!

In this 3 years I learned to be more responsible and tried not to make mis-takes as much as I could as the mistakes I made in earlier years affected my academic performance. I faced a lot of obstacles and challenges that I never thought or expected would come my way. But facing and overcoming them was a great experience. This gave me the confidence to face more difficult challenges which I may come my way in the future.

The teachers were great and they worked hard at teaching us new things. Don Bosco University is a very welcoming place and it felt like home to me. I made many new friends from different backgrounds and it was fun to learn new things from them as well. I always felt uncomfortable interacting with teachers when I was in school but the teachers here are very helpful, friendly and supportive. They encouraged every student in the class to meet them if anyone had any problem regarding the topic which they taught in the class. I was nervous at first but as time went by, I felt comfortable meeting teachers. Time passed so quickly and it is hard to believe that 3 years had passed. Life at the University was a great and unique experience.

College life was one of the most interesting stages of my life; for it gave me what an education ought to be - an opportunity to explore knowledge without boundary.

My experience at Assam Don Bosco University made me realize a timeless saying that may sound cliché - “life is unpredictable.” This life sometimes brings good and sometimes bad as well; and the two take turns. Therefore we have to be ready at all times to face either one of them.

University life is a perfect blend of joy and hardships, that ultimately gear you to maturity, and nurture your temperament, be it learning to sit through a stultifying lecture, navigating your senses through an arduous syllabus and exposed to opportunities to listen to learned faculty. Aca-demia, as often said, never lets you go free. The learning never ends. I am glad that I joined this university and I can proudly say that I am and will always be a Bosconian for life. Thank you to everyone who played a role in

my learning journey at the University and I wish great success to ADBU and all the Bosconians. Make the best of your days at Assam Don Bosco University.

It gives me immense pleasure to write for Spark – Convocation Special Issue. The University blessed me with a lot of memories during this four years. I will always look back at these years in my leisure time and cherish the mo-ments I shared with my friends and peers.

The corporate world , what I have seen as of now is a big diversion from col-lege life.

The faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department were really helpful and they were always available to us, day and night whenever we reached out for their help and advice. My special thanks go to Ms Leena Nemade, our HoD for her hard work and guidance throughout my stay here at the University and also for her encouragements to take part in as many activities as we can.

I represented our college in various regional, state, national and internation-al level competitions and won some awards for the University. I took part in as many co-curricular events as I could and was also a member of the organizing team many a times.

I remember one event that we organized for the first time – a National Level Championship Workshop on Andro Engine in which the participants compete in operating automobile engine with the help of android device. Organizing such an event help me and my team mates in learning event management, leadership skills and marketing strategies. I remember the mar-keting policy ‘Start with zero gives a way of arrow’ which was our slogan then. Also I will always remember those 3 years we participated in World Robotics Championship in New Delhi, representing North East and ended up getting 3rd rank in the world consecutively for 3 years.

I would also like to thank Dr. Vikramjit who joined the University in our final year, who helped us understand how to employ the classroom knowledge for problem solving in real life situations. In my final year, I got a job offer from Telecommunication & Network Solution as RF Engineer, but now I am working in Royal Enfield.

Lastly, a big thank you to all my teachers who helped me become a better person and a confident man that I am today. You carved me to what and who I am today.

They say that you can always look back at your life and find a few defining moments, those moments when your life took a turn and changed it for-ever. Being in Assam Don Bosco University was my first one. This was when I started to become the person I am now. I vividly remember my first day in the university. It felt like a liberation for me since I was far away from my family. It was my first time away from them. It was a bit difficult at first to be with people I never knew. I didn’t know how I should behave just to fit in. But eventually everything went smoothly. The University provided me a perfect ambiance to fit in. I met wonderful friends who are still my best buddies, and inspiring teachers who have moulded me to become who I am.

My experience at Don Bosco University has taught me one fundamental thing – Life is Unpredictable. It might be good, it might be bad, it might be weird and it might not interest you; but expect anything to happen. Being a Bosconian has prepared me to struggle and overcome all of this. Being in ADBU has given me a chance to meet different people and learn about their cultures and grow as a person. The life in the uni-versity is a time when you can decide your career. It’s a time of dreams and innumerable paths. My time at ADBU has enriched my life in many ways. It has provided me with the necessary tools to enhance my skills more, taught me valuable knowledge about this diverse world and it has stressed to me the importance of thinking critically and asking questions in many situa-tions. These experiences are truly irreplaceable and I would not trade them for anything.

I am forever grateful to all the teachers of Electrical and Electronics department who have been an epitome of strength and a great pillar of support. They have been as strict as a father and as loving as a mother, equally caring like a friend, strict disci-plinarians and yet always so approachable. To all my friends who have been my knights in shining armour, I am thankful and blessed for your presence in my life. From our gossip times to the times when we all sat together to study, each moment has created a memory. We all together have intentionally or unintentionally created so many memories that will be cherished throughout. Lastly I thank God for being with me every step of the way and for giving me this gift of life.

Tulika Majaw B.Tech (Electrical and Electronics Engineering)

‘Wish you great success and a wonderful journey ahead’ sounds familiar. In fact, most of us have heard these words whenever we moved ahead or taken a farewell from our dear ones. But why am I starting my message with this farewell quote? It’s because for me these are not mere parting words from someone I know. The word ‘success’ in the sentence might altogether vary in meaning for different people. For me it has been the liberty to break free from my own mental limitations and realising that I am special in my own way and that I need not compare my SUCCESS with that of any person in my periphery.

And this change has been brought about in me during my wonderful days at DBIM, a constituent unit of ADBU. DBIM has not only been about aca-demics but a place where learning and fun go hand in hand.

DBIM has been a self improvement experience along with a bunch of like and non-like minded individuals, who have been part of this amazing jour-ney called MBA. We had fights, we had quarrels, we had disagreements; but isn’t that the beauty of life? Today as I go through those pretty memories and laugh at some of them, I realise that those competitions and those presentations have been such great learning experiences. The degree conferred upon us, the marks ,the achievements might be relevant only for a few years; but the experiences will forever be fondly etched in our minds.

There are a few important things that I have learnt and I believe that they will help me in my professional life as well.

1. Living each moment - Sometimes we think that refraining from certain fun activities might be better for us; but trust me, they are the moments that we will long for later.

2. Be sincere about your work, not serious - I always had this problem of being too serious about what I was doing, so much so that I would lose out the fun associated with it. Instead, we should enjoy doing our work, and this can happen only when we love what we are doing. So, sometimes it is important to wait and ask - Am I doing what I love doing? If the answer is yes, it just becomes so much easier.

3. Do not be too humble - Humility is a virtue. But being too humble in the workplace is not going to lead us anywhere .We need to have a voice, and if it is right enough, make sure that it is heard.

4. Do not fear to be different - Be creative, stand out, challenge norms. How many times have we have been told these? But do we even step out of our comfort zones? Trust me. These are the qualities that great achievers pos-sess and these are qualities needed for survival in the real world.

5. Trust in yourself - A teacher at DBIM once told me “Richa, you do not realise that you have a lot of potential. But you need to build a stronger personality. Just trust in yourself and do not get disheartened. I am there to help you.” He also suggested to me a few simple books on personality development.

Those words had such a deep impact on me and I immediately started to work on the loopholes in my personality, started viewing things positively and very soon I transformed myself into a more confident person with a voice that cannot be ignored anymore.

I just thought of sharing these because once we are out of an academic institution, we realise that the world is a tough place to survive; everybody is fighting for a place and everyone is seeking identity. In reality, the only person who can help me is myself. A good institution can help us to learn things and make us so self sufficient that we will not need to depend upon anyone else to voice our opinions. And that is what DBIM is to me. It’s a challenging but a very enriching place which nurtures talent the right way. This place has taught us to dream and believe that there is nothing that we cannot achieve. But, at the same time, it also taught us that nothing comes easy. All we need to do is to have the zeal to work hard and achieve our goals.

As the 2 years in Assam Don Bosco University came to an end, I vividly remember the first few days and how I struggled to fit in, in a new environ-ment which I was not familiar with. As time passed by I was able to adjust with the environment. The best part of our institution was the bondage between the teachers and the students. Teachers of our department were very helpful, supportive and approachable. The department conducted workshops, seminars, presentations which gave us platforms for discussion and helped us grow in various ways. It was the unwavering support, valu-able guidance and suggestions of my teachers that helped me achieve my dreams.

Life here was not only about academics. All the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities kept us busy all year around. In this 2 years I have done school visits, school audit as well as school internship of one month where I got to know about the functioning of schools and the teaching learning process. Apart from this I was also a part of Adult Literacy Programme

where we taught English Communication to village women every Friday. I am glad that I was a part of this programme as it helped me understand the challenges of adult education and the need for more steps to be taken in this area.

My fondest memories were those late night get together at the wifi-room, preparing for a group presentation and then got up real late and rushed for morning assembly. All in all, I had a good experience in Assam don Bosco University. Thanks to all of my friends and specially my 2 roommates who made my life full of love and happiness.

Lastly I would like to confess that I had joined this institution just to acquire a Master Degree, but then it turned out that I graduated not only with a degree, but also with valuable life skills which made me ready to face the challenges in this life. Thank you.

Messages from DBU Global StudentsMarial Deng - South SudanI am extremely grateful of the knowledge and experiences I acquired at DBU Global. I would like to convey my gratitude to the DBU fraternity for their unwavering support and hard work in helping me gain more knowledge in the field of my specialization. I look forward to being an active alumnus of the University and I hope to inspire my friends and colleagues to be part of this great family.

Gabriel Gum Dek - South Sudan Let me begin with thanking the Almighty for the opportunity to complete my learning at DBU Global, successfully. I am grateful to DBU Global for providing online degree programs to working professionals like me. This degree is more than a mere certificate. The entire learning process has appreciably improved my understanding of the subject of study. I express my sincere appreciation to the Don Bosco University Staff, and to mention a few: Ms. Mumtaz B, Mr. Shafqat Mujtaba Hussain, Mr. Amit Singh, Ms. Komal Kathuria, and Mr. Rahul Varma, who have always been a source of inspiration and support throughout the program. As I look back at where I started in this journey, well it began with uncertain steps. However, I have come this far only because of my wife, Monica Yom Gum, who has rendered her constant support, love and motivation throughout this journey. I can thus, say that this success is not mine alone but ours. This reflection will undoubtedly enable us both to overcome any hurdles we may face in time to come.

Allen Tawanda Guzha - ZimbabweOpportunity knocks but once, they say. I remember sitting behind the screen of my Laptop, for almost two months, and browsing the web in search of Universities providing Distance Learning Programmes. The specific features that I was looking for were flexibility, value for money, organization, and professionalism. I found all of these attributes in the DBU Global platform of Assam Don Bosco University. The programmes allow the students to read, study, and write at their own pace. This seemed like the perfect find! For me to be enrolled in DBU Global meant that, not only could I learn immensely but I could also balance my time amidst full-time work, study, and my personal life, thereby practising time management and self-discipline. Learning from DBU Global is therefore, an inimitable opportunity as its online sessions are unique. I am indeed, blessed to have been a part of the DBU family. I am certain that DBU Global will benefit anyone who wishes to enrol for any of its pro-grammes offered through its online courses.

Alhaji Mohamed Warisay – Sierra LeoneOne of the best highlights of my Master’s Degree programme at Assam Don Bosco University was writing my research on the topic “Factors Affecting Employee Resistance to Organisational Change”. Not only was it challenging but it also developed an interest in me as I started put-ting into practice the research skills that I had acquired from the University. The feedback and online interview (Viva Voce) sessions with the Professors were fabulous! As someone who was studying in a developing country, Sierra Leone, where the internet connectivity and electricity supply are quite unreliable, I enjoyed the flexibility of the programme which otherwise would have not allowed me to complete the course. The online student portal and prompt reactions and responses to queries are commendable. DBU Global has indeed, provided me with a platform to achieve my dreams and aspirations.

BB Hays - GhanaI am grateful for this opportunity to share my experiences as a Graduate from Assam Don Bosco University. Through its DBU Global programme, Assam Don Bosco University has helped me soar high in my workplace and in academics. It is a great delight that my wife and I are graduates of a great institution as DBU. I wish to thank the entire team of DBU Global for making this happen. I look forward to further strengthening this bond and attachment that I have with DBU through an enrolment for PhD programme in the near future. May God bless Assam Don Bosco University!

Thomas Ogwu - NigeriaI must say that I was at first sceptical about my interested courses of study at Assam Don Bosco University through its DBU Global Programme. However, one glimpse of the first lecture notes I received, was enough to clear my doubts. The content of the lectures were enriching and in-formative. Worthy of note are the ease in admission processes and the nominal fees of the courses. Assam Don Bosco University is an excellent University and based on my experience, I am recommending this University to as many willing students as I can. My only frustration is my in-ability to obtain the Indian Visa to attend the graduation ceremony. Kudos to Assam Don Bosco University for the extraordinary standard! My well wishes to all the graduating students of the University.

Samuel Bediako - Asante-GhanaI was indeed, privileged to enrol in Assam Don Bosco University’s MBA programme majoring in General Management. It was a detailed and comprehensive advanced global business administration and management programme that only the likes of Harvard, Yale, INSEAD, and other top Business Schools can match. DBU Global provided me with great learning at an affordable cost, and it has greatly improved my knowledge in the business world. The online platform for the programme, manned by DBU Global, was perfect, and any challenges met were readily resolved by programme advisors and technicians; hence my warmest appreciation to them all. It is, therefore, my wish that this Online Programme be extended to cover the Doctoral in Business Administration (DBA) programme without further delay; and l wish to enrol in it immediately when it comes on-board. I am waiting for this day, impatiently though. Long live Assam Don Bosco University! Long live DBU Global!

Thon Manyuon - South SudanI am grateful to Assam Don Bosco University for enhancing my knowledge through the two-year interactive programme I enrolled. It was an amazing experience of productive interactive sessions with the course counsellors. I am confident that I will perform well in my profession as an Administrative Assistant in the UNMISS Administrative Office by applying the knowledge and skills that I acquired in these two years. Towards the completion of the course, I realize that my learning period at DBU Global has created a feeling of security in me and has instilled a feeling of hope for advancement of my career at the higher professional category either within my current Organization or elsewhere. Once again, Thank You Assam Don Bosco University!

Sunday Babatunde - NigeriaThe program was very exciting though not without challenges. I had to cope up with workload and studies which kept me in check on time management and planning the course outline. The chapters were designed in such away that they were easy to understand, which is ideal for this level of study. The course shed more light into so many aspects of management that I hardly took note of earlier like how items in a store are grouped, conflict resolution-techniques etc. The entire study had changed my perceptive in an area of business management in an organisation. From the depth of my heart, I sincerely appreciate the university for providing such a platform to me and to many others so as to enable us to reach another landmark in education. Thank you.

Chuma Manuesse – QatarI am happy that I enrolled in DBU Global. The three years of learning at the University through DBU Global has been exciting! I will not deny that I joined the University with high expectations, and after these three wonderful years, I can say that they have all been met. The programme is well-designed and has instilled in me, besides knowledge, with the enthusiasm to learn. The programme has motivated me to further my life at the University and hence, I look forward to enrolling for higher studies at the University. I must make a mention of the faculty members for their patience and commitment, which have been the driving forces to my success. I enjoyed all the classes thoroughly and the Environmental Studies course, especially. My journey at Assam Don Bosco University has not come to an end. I hope to see you again!

Mohammad Rahim Bahawi - Afghanistan The programmes under DBU Global of Assam Don Bosco University are highly beneficial to those who seek for relevant programmes as are being offered by ADBU. The programmes assist us not only by imparting knowledge but also enable us to merge the knowledge gained with practical experiences. The services provided by DBU Global are satisfactory. I take this opportunity to thank the University and all those who helped to make this happen. I sure hope to attend the VIIth Convocation and I am thrilled about the day I step my feet on the lovely campus of Assam Don Bosco University.

Evans Adjetey Sowah - GhanaAssam Don Bosco University offers unique Online Programmes through its DBU Global. Its uniqueness is reflected in the courses it offers, the flexibility of these courses, and above all, the content of the courses. These are amongst the unique attributes of the Programmes all of which I was able to make the best use of. The principles and techniques that I assimilated from the Programme have been successfully applied at my workplace and have been much appreciated. Another facet that never ceases to amaze me is the prompt service for assistance concerning all academic matters. Thank you, Don Bosco University for the experience!

Adam Issah Suale - GhanaI chose to pursue a Master’s Degree because I wanted to develop business expertise that would provide me with confidence and credibility at work. When it was time for me to decide on which institution to attend, affordability and flexible schedule of the courses were key features that I was looking for. Then I settled on Assam Don Bosco University after thoroughly going through their website.I am contented that I chose Assam Don Bosco University since it was accessible to me as a working adult, while the approachability of the student support unit contributed to the personal feel of the school. The overall flexibility of the program means one is not restricted to one location—one could travel the world and still get an education. The programs are intense but the combination of the educational material with learning real-life skills about how to become a good business expert was invaluable and directly applicable to my workplace. I believe that Assam Don Bosco University is an excellent choice for full-time working adults like myself.

Shahjehan Mukoon - MauritiusAfter 33 years in the Banking sector, my dream was to seal my career as Chief information Officer. Given that there was a missing piece to my long list of Diploma/PostGraduate Diploma/certificates in the IT sector, I choose Assam Don Bosco to help me in fulfilling the same. Accordingly, I enrolled myself for the Online program in Computer Studies in 2015. With the help of the training materials and guidance from the University, I managed to complete the course within 3 years despite the fact that I am a full time employee at The Standard Bank Mauritius (Limited). The online learning experience was wonderful and a program I would recommend to any student interested in pursuing a degree online. Obtaining my degree online was important to me. The online platform allowed me to complete my studies, tests and submit project papers while abroad. Without the online platform at Assam Don Bosco University, it would have taken me much longer to complete in a traditional classroom-learn-ing environment. I have learnt so much in my time with Assam Don Bosco University .The rapid pace of globalization and the digital age makes it even more important for students to have a 21st century education. I am looking forward to using my degree to enhance my career prospect.

Solomon Bakare - NigeriaI came across an advertisement of Assam Don Bosco University while attending to routine official emails. To satisfy my curiosity, which was heightened by the affordable tuition fee, I filled all forms as required and was never interested. Over a short period of time, I received some overwhelming calls and email from the Admission department, I must emphasize that they were very patient, cautious and understanding. The instalment mode of payment also gave hope of better education to most of us. I wish to single out for some accolade Ms. Aarti Bathla, a student support member, has been outstanding even when the approach or email from me might show some displeasure, expression of dis-satisfaction, disappointment or anger. DBU has raised the bar in Distance learning and their consistent yet steady quest for innovative ways to bringing education to your door step deserves a notable recognition. Ladies and gentlemen, and graduating colleagues, let us rise to applaud this wonderful institution.

Jacob Serum - KenyaThe programme that I undertook in DBU Global was the best in the sense that the online system did not disappoint at any time during my three years of study. The lectures were very helpful and at no point did I miss or understood what they were teaching. I will definitely recommend someone to join DBU Global.

Angos David - NigeriaIt was a great privilege to study MBA on Operations Management as I had a great experience of the program, platform and other services. On the program, it was wonderful and well-structured for students and lecture materials were so rich in content. The network accessibility was good, video lectures were well delivered. I was not only enlightened by these lectures but also came to learn a lot of new things. Regarding the platform, it was well programmed and easy to use and easy to download study materials. Other services like online payment of fees, quick responses to queries also made the experience smooth and appreciable. Thank you DBU and I am happy to be a product of DBU.
