Greetings Park Village Families! We have officially launched the 2016-17 school year and our halls and classrooms are alive with over 600 students, 70 plus teachers, staff and volunteers who support our school each day. While visiting classrooms on Tuesday, I spoke to a third grade student who enthusiastically remarked, in front of his entire class, that he was “so excited that he couldn’t stop smiling!” As you can imagine, this put a big smile on my face as well! I love this time of year and the positive energy and excitement around our school. We have had a busy summer and there are several campus improvements I would like to share. Most notably, a complete renovation of the main playground surface was completed over the past few weeks. This included, taking out all of the old surface and base, refilling and paving, and painting/ lining the surface. A slurry seal and fresh paint will be added once the blacktop cures. I am happy to report that we no longer have cracks and bumpy areas throughout the playground. The PUSD IT Department has significantly upgraded our network to ensure peak performance for our stu-dents, teachers and staff. Through the support of our Foundation, new classroom projectors have been or-dered to make sure every classroom has access to state-of-the-art audiovisual tools. Additionally, PUSD is providing our school with 210 new chromebooks as part of the computer refresh pro-gram. Our Foundation is supporting students through the addition of five computer workstations in each mall on campus. I’ll be sharing more about how these devices are being used by students in upcoming messages. Finally, please welcome two new teachers to the Park Village team. Veronika Doud joins our Kindergarten team and Samantha Jaffe is our new 5th grade teacher. Stephanie Carriero will be our new counselor working with student support services. Important Safety Reminders: Drop Off/ Pick Up Please note that vehicles should only enter the parking lot through the Park Village Road entrance. Traffic is one way only; exiting the driveway (at the top of our lot) onto Camino del Sur. Vehicles should never be left unattended while dropping off or picking up in this area. Students should use crosswalks at all times when coming to and going home from school. For the safety of everyone, we ask that you do not cross Camino del Sur at the top driveway or leave vehicles unattended in the 3-minute zone. At the 8:55 AM bell, students are picked up by their teachers and escorted to the classroom. Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to learn, by 9:00 AM each morning. There is no drop off parking available in our lot, so please plan accordingly. Your help is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to a fantastic year and working together to continue providing the very best educational experience for our children. Michael Mosgrove Principal

5th Grade - Thursday, September 22 4th Grade - Thursday, October 6 3rd Grade - Thursday, November 3 2nd Grade - Thursday, January 5 1st Grade - Thursday, February 2 TK/Kindergarten - Thursday, March 2

These awesome evenings, filled with hands-on activi-ties, would not be possible without parent volunteers. If you are able to help, please click on the link and sign up. You do not need to have any science background. Science Night Volunteer Sign Up Sheet Every child must attend Science Night with an adult, so it's best if you volunteer on a night when your stu-dent is not attending with his/her grade level. WHAT IS YOUR STORY? PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the class-room and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2016-2017 theme: What Is Your Story? Students may choose one or all of the available arts categories:

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. Celebrate arts learning in your school community with Re-flections.

We are still looking for a parent volunteer(s) to help coordinate the Reflections program at Park Village this year. If your child enjoys participating in this wonderful program and you would like to support it at our school, please contact Joanne Tu, [email protected], and find out how you can help.

Welcome to a New Year of Recycling! By Victor Chan, Recycling Coordinator

Our first collection is Wednesday, September 14, 8-9 AM, in the ESS Parking Lot.

Mark your calendars: On the second Wednesday of every month (unless it's a holiday, then it's delayed a week), bring your empty California Redemption Value (CRV) plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans, #1 PET and #2 HDPE plastic con-tainers to the ESS parking lot (just east of

the main entrance to the school parking lot) between 8-9AM. Note that we are accepting non-CRV #1 PET and #2 HDPE containers like milk jugs, 100% juice bottles, clear fruit con-tainers, and most condiment bottles. Look for the #1 or #2 marking on the container. Sorry, no #5 or others accepted. Please no broken glass and rinse out milk jugs before bringing them. If you plan to continue to bring a lot of items, we can give you plastic bags that morning for future use. The money redeemed for the recycled items goes directly to the school. Also, there will be end-of-the school year prizes for the student who brings in the largest number of items, the top student in each grade, and an ice cream party for the top class. Write your child's name, teacher, and number of items brought in on a slip of paper and bring it with you at the time of drop off. You can list just the classroom / teacher too. If you would like to help me direct a group of kids to help crush cans and bottles, or have any questions, you can contact me at [email protected]. Also, save your E-waste for our fundraiser E-Waste collection drive next calendar year. Details and date to come. Thank you!
