Jefferson County Department of Health
Health Center Services
The Department of Health provides health care of Jefferson County’s underinsured and uninsured residents. These centers
are open from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The following physician-directed health services are available at most of the Depart-
ment’s health centers. Please call a center to inquire.
Child Health
Complete primary
healthcare, including rou-
tine exams and sick visits,
is provided at all health
center for children from
birth to 18 years of age.
Federal and State health
insurance programs are
available for children who
meet income guidelines.
Immunization
Childhood immunizations are pro-
vided at all health centers. Certifi-
cate of immunization (blue forms)
are provided and required for chil-
dren enrolling in childcare centers
and private and public schools.
Maternity Care
Complete prenatal care provid-
ed at all centers by the UAB
Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology.
Adult Health
Primary health care is
provided at all health
center Except Eastern.
Dental Health
Total dental care for children
who meet eligibility require-
ments is provided at Besse-
mer, Central, Eastern, and
Western Health Centers and
mobile dental clinics traveling
within the school system.
Family Planning
Birth Control services including
information on contraception
counseling, methods, pregnancy
testing, exams, and supplies are
available at all centers.
Interpreters
Interpreters are available for
non-English speaking patients at
Central and Eastern with lan-
guage line phone service availa-
ble elsewhere.

(WIC) offers eligible
pregnant and breast-

to five years of age,
free healthful foods
and nutrition infor-
mation.
Pharmacy
Health center patients can
have prescriptions written
by a health center provid-
er filled at Bessemer, Cen-
tral, Northern and West-
ern health center pharma-
cies.
Case Management
Case Managers are available to assist
patients in obtaining needed medical,
social, educational, and other services.
Workers with the Alabama Medicaid
Agency are located at each health center
to assist patients in obtaining SOBRA
Medicaid benefits.

CLASS CANCELLATION
AND REFUND POLICY
All classes must have a minimum num-
ber pre-registered or class will be can-
celled. Fees may be paid when you
pre-register or when first class meets.
No refunds after the second week
class meets.
SEVERE WEATHER
NOTICE
In case of severe weather such as tor-
nados, hurricanes, severe thunder-
storms, snow and ice, classes will be
cancelled for that evening. If such a
warning is in effect one hour before
class time, please call your Community
School Office before class.
