1 APPLICATION OVERVIEW
ParkIT Application is delivered as a ready to install system, which meets the requirements of
even complex vehicle access control projects, yet it is easy to install and configure.
The application has a modern user interface, which can be used without installation by using the
most common browsers. The main settings of the system can be performed through this
interface.
The CARMEN® license plate recognition engine, which is known worldwide for its OCR accuracy
and the module that handles the functions of the ParkIT camera are integral parts of the system.
The design of the system allows the integration of third party devices, which can communicate
through the interface of the system and carry out its function. The system contains an interface
(API) to integrate various external systems through which the connected applications can reach
the different functions of the system.
Basic functionality:
Configurable entry process,
Handling of locations (one center, multiple locations),
Handling of parking spots, zones and groups (companies),
Handling of permissions (persons, vehicles, cards and time periods),
Control functions (camera image, last entries, manual opening, lead out),
Full logging
2 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Server requirements
Supported operation systems:
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows 8
Microsoft Windows 8.1
Microsoft Windows 10
Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
4/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
Other required software components:
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
Minimum hardware requirements for a 4-camera ANPR system:
2 core (4 thread) 2.2 GHz processor (x86/x64),
8GB RAM,
500MB hard drive space (software) + 100 GB suggested space (for event storing),
1 free USB port or PCIe x1 or Express card port for the hardware key,
Network: Min 100 Mbps, Recommended: 1000 Mbps (TCP/IP protocol support).
In case of more than four cameras are managed in the application, a stronger processor and
bigger memory is suggested, that is able to run multiple processes at the same time.
The application logs all entries and saves pictures in certain cases. To store these pictures a
minimum of 100GB hard drive space is required and it is recommended to check usage (available
space).
2.2 Client side requirements
A ParkIT Application operates from thin client user interface (GUI), and it requires a web browser:
Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or later
Opera
These browsers can be used to run any parts of the application. The live camera images of the
screen uses mJPEG technology and therefore there are severe limitations to use the application:
live camera image will not work properly with Internet Explorer, as it does not support
mJPEG technology.
There is no special hardware requirement to run the application on the client side. Client side
computers are for display only without recording video footage. However, the number of the
camera images appearing on the main screen may be a considerable load on the client
computer’s video card – this is why users may want to set up their system with a medium-range
or top of the range video card. Obviously, the system does function with an entry-level video
card, as well, but the video stream may be skipping.

4 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
To start the installation, double click on the „ParkITAPP.Installer.exe” file, which is in the
installation directory. After that, the installation home screen will appear.
The installation of the system can be done correctly without inserting the hardware key, but we
need it for the operation of the system.
Click on the Requirements tab to view the compliance of the application with the software
requirements.
If the application does not comply with the operating system, it cannot be installed on that
computer.
9/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
The IIS and the ASP.NET versions are only status indicators. If not the correct versions are installed
on the computer, they will be installed during the installation of the ParkIT Application.
Clicking on the Installation tab the installation page of the application will appear.
Start the installation by clicking on the [Begin installation] button. The installation will continue
after confirmation the End-user license agreement.
Installation of the system will start after accepting the conditions.
10/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
The first step is the installation of the Internet Information Services, if it is not activated on the
computer. Before proceeding with the installation, a screen may appear that the system has to
be rebooted.
11/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
After reboot (and login), the ParkIT Application Installer will automatically continue the
installation with installing the Visual C++.
After this, the Installer will complete the necessary IIS settings.
12/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
Thereafter, the CARMEN® license plate recognition module and the corresponding driver of the
hardware key will be installed automatically.
If no hardware key is connected to the computer, the Installer cannot check the success of the
installation. Therefore, this item will be marked with a warning mark in the installation list (see
above). The system will operate correctly even when the hardware key is plugged in only after
the installation.
After copying the files needed for the operation of the ParkIT Application and after the IIS
settings, the Installer will require system reboot.
13/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
After the system reboot, the installation is completed. The Installer starts, but now the
Maintenance tab will be active. Here, the application can be uninstalled or by clicking on the
[Start Application] button, the application website will start with the default browser.

5 TASKS AFTER THE INSTALLATION
5.1 CARMEN Setup
ParkIT Application is installed, together with the CARMEN ANPR software engine. In standard
case there is no further action needed in relation to CARMEN. On the other hand we give a
description here how to check the right installation of the recognition engine and how to install
new CARMEN engine in special cases.
Type “engine” in the start menu to find the 64 bit “CARMEN ENGINE MANAGER”.
At the right side chose the engine you need and click on CHANGE
If you do not have the necessary engine you can have it via ATSS (ARH Technical Support
System). Once the engine file is available Browse at the Engine package.
If you install a new CARMEN engine it is possible to test is with the ADI application (Application
Demo for Images).
15/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
5.2 Windows IIS (Internet Information Service)
ParkIT Application is an IIS application. Both ParkIT Application and ISS maintain the same log file. Windows IIS logging can be switched off not to have duplication.
5.3 Access the server
Open TCP Port 80 in Windows Firewall so that the server will be available.
5.4 ParkIT Application configuration
The last step of installation is the configuration of the software: Setting camera IP addresses, number of lanes, if lanes are operating with inductive loop or camera motion detection etc. Find details in the ParkIT Application Administration manual

6 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
The [Version Upgrade] function is active at the Installation tab, if a newer application version is
available on the computer than the one that is already installed.
6.1 Version numbers
Three version numbers can be distinguished:
Setup version: the version that would be installed,
Installed version: the version of the already installed application,
Downloadable version: the Installer queries from the ParkIT Center Server (in case of active
internet connection) the newest application version.
6.2 Version upgrade
Clicking the [Version Upgrade] button, the Installer updates the current version of the ParkIT
Application. The settings of the application and the data of the previous events will not be
affected after this action (they will be stored).
17/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
Tasks performed by the Installer:
creating a backup before update, to restore the application in the event of any failure
upgrading the application to the newer version
upgrading the database structure
upgrading the scripts supplied with the system
The system indicates to the user if the version upgrade is completed. In this case no system
reboot is necessary.
18/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
6.3 Reinstallation
The application will be reinstalled after clicking the [Begin reinstallation] button at the
Installation tab.
The application will warn the user about this operation.
This operation deletes the previous settings, events and permissions. The system will be fully
restored.
19/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
6.4 Downloading a new version
The Installer attempts to access the server that is responsible for the ParkIT Application update,
to check the latest available version. While this process is running, a progress indicator appears
at the “Downloadable version:” part.
To query the latest version, the Installer sends the license key of the installed application, so it
has to be run on the installed ParkIT Application Server.
If it is not run on the installed ParkIT Application Server, an informational message will appear
about the missing element at the version number:
20/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
If a newer version is available, its version number will appear at the Downloadable version section
and the [New version download] button will become active.
To download the newer version, the Installer sends the ID of the hardware key (which is plugged
to the computer) for safety reasons. This ID has to be in accordance with the license key (they
are assigned to each other). If the hardware key is not connected, the Installer will inform the
user about it:
21/26 page ParkiIT Application Installation Guide
In case of proper identifiers, the Installer will ask for the location to save the new installer file:
After determining the location, the Installer will download the new installer program. A progress
bar shows the status of the download.
The successful download is indicated with a message. After accepting it, the installer closes the
running version and launches the newly downloaded version.

7 FURTHER INFORMATION
7.1 Installation log
The Installer creates log file during the installation for technical support purposes. The log is
found in the „%Temp%” directory, and the name of the log file is „ParkITAPPinstaller.txt”.
7.2 Starting the system
Starting the system is possible from any supported browser. What we need to provide is only
the application’s access path:
http://computer ip address/ParkITAPP
where the „computer_ip_address” means the server IP address or domain name, where the
application will be installed (e.g.: http://10.20.30.40/ParkITAPP or http://parkit_server/ParkITAPP).
7.3 System configuration
At the first start of the ParkIT Application, a basic setup menu will appear where you can manage
the basic configurations, what define the system’s basic operation. These can be changed at any
time through the application’s web interface.
The tools, the lanes and the processes handled by the installed application, can be set on the
application web interface too.
This first configuration screen will be available later at any time at:
http://computer ip address/ParkITAPP/default/welcome
These configuration steps are detailed in the ParkIT Application Administrator Manual.
7.4 Uninstall
The removal of the application happens with the help of the Installer application. After its launch,
click on the [Website uninstallation] button at the Maintenance tab. The application will be
removed.
