Introduction

Parle Products

A long time ago, when the British ruled India, a small factory was set up in the suburbs of

Mumbai city, to manufacture sweets and toffees. The year was 1929 and the market was dominated by

famous international brands that were imported freely. Despite the odds and unequal competition, this

company called Parle Products, survived and succeeded, by adhering to high quality and improvising

from time to time.

A decade later, in 1939, Parle Products began manufacturing biscuits, in addition to sweets and toffees.

Having already established a reputation for quality, the Parle brand name grew in strength with this

diversification. Parle Glucose and Parle Monaco were the first brands of biscuits to be introduced, which

later went on to become leading names for great taste and quality.

If we talk of Parle-G, it has become the biggest selling product of Parle Products. There are now 32

varieties of products of Parle and around 10,000 workers are carrying out the manufacturing.

How Parle fought to make biscuits affordable to all?

Biscuits were very much a luxury food in India, when Parle began production in 1939. Apart from Glucose and

Monaco biscuits, Parle did offer a wide variety of brands.

However, during the Second World War, all domestic biscuit production was diverted to assist the Indian

soldiers in India and the Far East. Apart from this, the shortage of wheat in those days, made Parle decide to

concentrate on the more popular brands, so that people could enjoy the price benefits.

Thankfully today, there's no dearth of ingredients and the demand for more premium brands is on the rise.

That's why, we now have a wide range of biscuits and mouth watering confectionaries to offer.

The strength of the Parle Brand

Over the years, Parle has grown to become a multi-million US Dollar company. Many of the Parle products -

biscuits or confectionaries, are market leaders in their category and have won acclaim at the Monde Selection,

since 1971. Biggest ovens of Asia are in Parle-G factory. Monaco was launched in 1949 and Krackjack was

launched in 1972.

Today, Parle enjoys a 40% share of the total biscuit market and a 15% share of the total confectionary market,

in India. The Parle Biscuit brands, such as, Parle-G, Monaco and Krackjack and confectionery brands, such as,

Melody, Poppins, Mangobite and Kismi, enjoy a strong imagery and appeal amongst consumers.

Be it a big city or a remote village of India, the Parle name symbolizes quality, health and great taste! And yet,

we know that this reputation has been built, by constantly innovating and catering to new tastes. This can be

seen by the success of new brands, such as, Hide Seek, or the single twist wrapping of Mango bite.

In this way, by concentrating on consumer tastes and preferences and emphasizing Research & Development,

the Parle brand grows from strength to strength.

The Quality Commitment

Parle Products has one factory at Mumbai that manufactures biscuits & confectioneries while another factory at

Bahadurgarh, in Haryana manufactures biscuits. Apart from this, Parle has manufacturing facilities at

Neemrana, in Rajasthan and at Bangalore in Karnataka. The factories at Bahadurgarh and Neemrana are the

largest such manufactur-ing facilites in India. Parle Products also has 14 manufacturing units for biscuits & 5

manufacturing units for confectioneries, on contract.

All these factories are located at strategic locations, so as to ensure a constant output & easy distribution. Each

factory has state-of-the-art machinery with automatic printing & packaging facilities.

All Parle products are manufactured under the most hygienic conditions. Great care is exercised in the selection

& quality control of raw materials, packaging materials & rigid quality standards are ensured at every stage of

the manufacturing process. Every batch of biscuits & confectioneries are thoroughly checked by expert staff,

using the most modern equipment.

The Marketing Strength

The extensive distribution network, built over the years, is a major strength for Parle Products. Parle biscuits &

sweets are available to consumers, even in the most remote places and in the smallest of villages with a

population of just 500.

Parle has nearly 1,500 wholesalers, catering to 4,25,000 retail outlets directly or indirectly. A two hundred

strong dedicated field force services these wholesalers & retailers. Additionally, there are 31 depots and C&F

agents supplying goods to the wide distribution network.

The Parle marketing philosophy emphasizes catering to the masses. We constantly endeavour at designing

products that provide nutrition & fun to the common man. Most Parle offerings are in the low & mid-range

price segments. This is based on our cultivated understanding of the Indian consumer psyche. The value-for-

money positioning helps generate large sales volumes for the products.

However, Parle Products also manufactures a variety of premium products for the up-market, urban consumers.

And in this way, caters a range of products to a variety of consumers.

The Customer Confidence

The Parle name conjures up fond memories across the length and breadth of the country. After all, since 1929,

the people of India have been growing up on Parle biscuits & sweets.

Today, the Parle brands have found their way into the hearts and homes of people all over India & abroad. Parle

Biscuits and confectioneries, continue to spread happiness & joy among people of all ages.

The consumer is the focus of all activities at Parle. Maximizing value to consumers and forging enduring

customer relationships are the core endeavours at Parle.

Our efforts are driven towards maximizing customer satisfaction and this is in synergy with our quality pledge.

"Parle Products Limited will strive to provide consistently nutritious & quality food products to meet

consumers' satisfaction by using quality materials and by adopting appropriate processes. To facilitate the above

we will strive to continuously train our employees and to provide them an open and participative environment."

There are always some kids who seem smarter than the rest. Ever wonder how they got to be that way? If you

had to think real hard for the answer, then probably you've never eaten Parle-G. Parle-G is the new generation's

official power supply. Providing kids with the vital vitamins and minerals necessary for all  round mental  and

physical development.

Apart from being the world's largest selling biscuit,  Parle - G is the winner of 8 Gold and 11 Silver awards at

the Monde Selection Awards – the global standard for quality in Food category.

Import-Export

The immense popularity of Parle products in India was always a challenge to our production capacity. Now,

using more modern techniques for capacity expansion, we have begun spreading our wings and are going

global.

Parle biscuits and confectionaries are fast gaining acceptance in international markets, such as, Abu Dhabi,

Africa, Dubai, South America and Sri Lanka. Even the more sophisticated markets like USA & Australia,

now relish Parle products.

As part of the efforts towards a larger share of the global market, Parle has initiated the process of getting ISO

9000 certification. Many Parle Products have also won Gold, silver and bronze medals at the Monde

Selection.

INTRODUCTION

PRERNA SYNTEX is a 100% export oriented spinning unit and an ISO 9001-2000 certified

company.

The mill is located at Neemrana in Alwar district, Rajasthan state, India. The installed

spinning capacity is 24,960 Ring Spindles. The plant is equipped with state-of-the-art

machinery and systems and is presently manufacturing 100% cotton yarn with a count

range of Ne 16 to Ne 60/1. A wide range of products is exported to Europe and the Far

East. The Packing and Shipping departments are well versed with International trade and

shipping procedures.

The Aim of the Company is ' Zero Defect ' yarn. To this end, it has developed innovative

procedures to eliminate contamination of raw cotton right from the procurement stage.

The demand for the yarn quality parameter is becoming more stringent day by day with

the result that manufacturing costs are high and margins minimized. In these

circumstances the optimum performance level of the plant is essential for an economical

and competitive performance. The use of Uster testing instruments further ensures that

the quality of the yarn meets International Standards.

The Company has its own captive power consumption plant run by FURNACE OIL

PRERNA SYNTEX is an "ISO 9001-2000 certified company" equipped to meet any global

challenge in producing quality cotton yarn.

The management of Prerna Syntex decided to conduct a technical audit to asses the

mill's performance. The Gherzi Eastern Limited was given the task of Benchmarking

Prerna Syntex against the best European mills. Spinning experts from Gherzi visited the

mills on the 24th and 25th of May 1998 to conduct this audit. Among their findings, they

reported the following:

"The complete plant is new and with the state of the art technology, including quality

testing equipment, plant humidification and waste evacuation system."

"Being an export oriented unit, the company has a good exposure to the international

market and hence good awareness of quality."

"Excellent machinery layout from the process flow point."

Being an export oriented unit, the plant and equipment required by Prerna Syntex warrants very

high technical specifications and superior quality performance, as the product has to face

competition in the international market. Keeping this in mind, the unit has been equipped with

machinery from some of the world leaders in textile machinery manufacture like Trutzschler, LTG

of Germany, Cherry Hara, Toyoda, Murata of Japan and Uster Testing Instruments of Switzerland.

All the machines correspond to today's state of the art technology and, were put in operation

only about one year ago. It is fundamentally possible to produce best quality yarn with the

present set of machines.

LTG Humidification Plants

To run all the machines smoothly, some special attention is required to control atmospheric

conditions in different departments. For this reason, LTG (Germany) machinery has been

selected. Both temperature and RH% are properly controlled. The humidification plant installed

in the departments will serve the relative humidity in various areas automatically, signals will be

sent after serving for damper control for air quantities and thereby effect change as warranted.

The mill has a false ceiling through which the fresh air is supplied (via diffusers) and distributed

in various departments. Return air extracted at floor level and re-circulated after cleaning and

washing. Rotary air filters are used for handling in return air from departments and exhaust.

LTG Automatic Centralized Waste Collection Equipment

The Blow-room, Cards, Combers and Ring Frames are equipped with an Automatic Centralized

waste collection system with automatic waste bailing press. This system improves the

performance of the machine and helps in eliminating contamination in the department as well as

keeps the Department neat, clean and dust free.

We have got installed "ELGI CONDITIONING PLANT" for Yarn conditionings

Cherry HaraCherry Hara Draw Frame D-600 and D-600 with Autoleveller

Cherry Hara High Speed Comber VC-300 A

Cherry Hara Super Lab SL-100

Cherry Hara Draw Frame D-600 and D-600 with Autoleveller

These machines are equipped with well established 5 over 5 drafting system with pressure bar

for optimum draft conditions for maximum silver evenness. The Comber silver is processed

through a single passage of Cherry Hara draw Frame D-600 USC having autoleveller.

In D-600 USC traveling system of the feeding side and the thickness of the incoming sliver is

continuously measured, this data is stored electronically. The main draft is changed at right time

to level out the sliver variations, via the servo drive and differential. The sliver monitor at the

delivery side guarantees the constant quality of leveling. Autoleveller at this stage is essential for

producing perfect silver for feeding to FL-16 speed frame of Toyoda.

It is provided with three (3) drafting parts instead of two (2) drafting parts in other machines.

Doubling of sliver can be increased from 36 sliver to 42 slivers also. To get more precise

regularity 3 step drafting is better. It is also provided with Automatic grain adjuster. Without

grain adjuster during the lap formation, the starting point of lap weight is light because it has

been tightly pressed between calender roller and stum but in final stage, due to the fleece

slipping between calender roller and drum, the lap weight is heavier than the required weight.

Hence with automatic grain adjuster, after analyzing the first step in 20 equal steps, it will

automatically send signal during lap formation by which we can have optimum lap weight from

beginning to end. This system is possible with Cherry Hara Super lap machine, the machine is

also equipped with narrowing and lap licking device which is an extra advantage of good piecing

and better quality of subsequent process of combing.

The Super Lap SL-100 from Cherry Hara produces laps of maximum 25 kgs. weight. This reduces

the lap changes at the comber thereby reducing number of piecing which helps in improving the

quality of the sliver and increasing the efficiency of the machine.

Cherry Hara High Speed Comber VC-300 A

Cherry Hara Comber VC-300 A is characterized by its high performances and perfect geometry

for highest Nipping rates to produce perfect combed sliver. The unique nipper mechanish

ensures excellent quality with the simple construction lighter nipper and solid frame construction

gives high production.

ToyodaToyoda High Speed Frame FL-16

Toyoda Ring Frame 220 SF

Toyoda speed frame is equipped with pneumatic and pneuma stop motion, which helps in

producing good quality of roving. The Toyoda speed frame produces bigger size roving package

which reduces creel changes at Ring Frame thus enhancing in yarn quality. Speed frame FL-16 is

also equipped with suspended type of flyer for smooth running at higher speed. The special

feature of Toyoda FL-16 includes winding up tension compensating device with inverter and creel

tension, fine adjustment mechanism helps in producing top quality roving.

Toyoda ring frames having 960 spindles each are characterized by its features like optimized

geometry for superior results and higher spindle speed up to 1800rpm. reduced energy

consumption, smooth running of spindles, easy opera special lifting mechanism ensures vibration

free motion of ring rails, baloon control rings and lappets, four spindle drive, spindle speed

control by inverter drive suction with two control ducts.

The ring frames are fitted with automatic pneumafil waste collection system of LTG overhead

traveling cleaners. The overhead traveling cleaners keep the machine and its surroundings dust

free. It further helps in improving the quality of yarntion and maintenance.

Murata of Japan

Murata NO. 7-V Mach Automatic Cone Winder

The yarn from ring frame is wound in cones through MURATA autoconer model 7-V (megzine

type). The Murata autoconer is not only characterized by high productivity but also for its better

performances in respect of quality of the yarn concerned. Since each individual winding unit is

also an independent production unit, one can adjust the winding capacity to the count of yarn

produced on Ring frames. The electronic yarn cleaner and special check devices of splicer are

helpful for producing best quality yarn. In addition, for contamination control, Autoconers are

equipped with USTER QUANTUM CLEARERS AND LOEPFE SIRO CLEARERS.
