BAGS - Please do not bring school bags or crates to Parliament House.
• Small bags containing only emergency medical equipment (e.g. EpiPens and insulin) are acceptable. Students must not bring drink bottles, pencils, files or workbooks into Parliament House.
PHOTOGRAPHY - is not permitted in Parliament House.
BUS PARKING - is not available at Parliament House.
• Buses cannot enter Parliament House.
• Bus bays are located adjacent to the Constitutional Centre on the corner of Havelock Street
and Parliament Place (350m from Parliament House, see map below). Bus parking is
available in Kings Park.
• Groups with special access requirements should contact the Education Office on 9222 7259 ahead of your visit to discuss arrangements.

SUPERVISION AND BEHAVIOUR
We want you to enjoy your visit to Parliament and to have the best
tour experience possible!
Please be aware that....
• All groups MUST be accompanied by at least two supervising adults, one to be a
qualified teacher who has, at all times during the excursion, the duty of care of the students
in accordance with the principles of the Department of Education’s Excursion Policy.
If the minimum number of accompanying adults is not met, the tour may not proceed.
• Teachers and supervising adults are responsible for student behaviour during the visit.
Teachers and students are expected to be respectful to the Education Presenter, Members
of Parliament, staff and other visitors to Parliament House.
• Groups are to move around Parliament quietly and courteously.
EVACUATION PROCEDURE
Safety matters!
Parliament House has an evacuation procedure that covers every part of the building.
• In the case of an emergency all school visitors are to take directions from Education
Office Staff and Parliament House Fire Wardens.
• Teachers will be asked to do a roll call and must immediately alert Parliament House staff if any
students are missing.
DISABILITY FACILITIES
All for one and one for all!
• Parliament House has a disability access ramp located on the Eastern side of the building,
near the front entrance. There are also disabled toilets and lifts to all floors.
INSURANCE COVER
We’ve got this covered!
• The Parliament of Western Australia has appropriate public liability insurance cover RiskCover
Certificate of Currency (SEE NEXT PAGE).

Please be aware that it is in the nature of the functioning of our State Parliament
that circumstances can change at short notice and may require the cancellation
or alteration of your booking.

Parliament House has noted the details listed above for your school’s proposed excursion to this facility/venue and has the authority to provide the following information:
1. Parliament House is able to accept the proposed booking on the agreed date and time, and can accommodate the number and age of the students.
2. The duty manager at the time of the excursion will be the Manager - Parliamentary Library, Education and Community Engagement.
3. Other bookings have been/will be taken for this same period. The Parliamentary Education Office manages the number of students and other Education Office visitors on site at any one time (maximum is 150).
4. One Parliamentary Education Office staff member will be on duty during your excursion.
5. Parliament House guidelines and policies provided, relevant to your excursion, include:
Supervision and Evacuation guidelines; and Insurance cover (RiskCover certificate of currency)
6. The Parliamentary Education Office will contact the school a week prior to the scheduled tour to confirm attendee numbers and to ensure the no bag message is understood.

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
Parliament House confirms that the Parliamentary Services Department has Public Liability
Insurance which will be current on the date of the excursion and which meets the level in the box
below.

EMERGENCY PLAN
1. The teacher-in-charge and the group will be informed of emergency procedures, before the tour commences.
2. Supervision and evacuation guidelines have been provided by email to the teacher-in-charge.
3. The school/ teacher will be responsible for supplying and rendering first aid.
NOTES
a) All Parliamentary Education Office staff who will interact with students have current Working With Children Check (WWCC) cards.
b) All staff interacting with students have relevant experience/qualifications to present to students.
c) Standard guidelines have been provided by email.
d) Expectations of the respective school staff have been outlined in these Supervision and Evacuation guidelines emailed to the teacher-in-charge.

SITTING DAYS AT PARLIAMENT HOUSETHE VISIT On sitting days your visit to Parliament House will include:
• Ground Floor - Forrest Foyer An introduction to the history, functions and features of the W.A. Parliament.
• First Floor - Lee Steere Foyer An overview of the relationship between the two Houses and information on significant
women of the Parliament & Premiers of the state.
• Second Floor – Aboriginal People’s Gallery / Public Galleries
An overview of the artwork and significant features in the Aboriginal People’s gallery.
Accessing the galleries of both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council to view the
chambers below.
• Meeting your local member Members will most likely meet with school groups on a sitting day as they will be in the building
(subject to availability). Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more
about what their local member does.
Please note...• Parliament does not work to a 9-5 timetable, so on sitting day mornings it is possible to find the Chambers empty of Members. In this instance your Education Presenter will point out features of interest in each chamber.
• If viewing proceedings, each chamber can vary from high animation at Question Time to more subdued Government Business. Your Education Presenter will use what is happening at the time of your visit as a backdrop to personalise your tour.
NON-SITTING DAYS AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE
THE VISIT On non-sitting days your visit to Parliament House will include:
• Ground Floor - Forrest Foyer An introduction to the history, functions and features of the W.A. Parliament.
• First Floor - Lee Steere Foyer An overview of the relationship between the two Houses and information on significant
women of the Parliament & Premiers of the state.
• Accessing the floor of one or both Chambers.
• School / TAFE groups can conduct a role play or participate in a division activity subject to
availablity of the Chambers. The role play is a meaningful way for students to understand
how laws are made in Western Australia. Simply choose a topic and receive an emailed PDF
of the script beforehand so reading roles can be allocated.

• Meeting your local member Your member will endeavour to meet with school groups, subject to their availability. If your member visits, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what their local member/s does. TAFE groups will need to contact the local Member’s Electorate Office to determine availability.
Please note...• Parliament is a secure building therefore no bags or backpacks larger than A4 size are permitted.
• No photography is permitted inside Parliament House.
• To ensure students have the opportunity to conduct a roleplay in the chamber, teachers are reminded that they need to be prepared.
