Renew My Church Begins As I noted last week St Ignatius is beginning the Re-new My Church (RMC) process this month. As the parish begins this process, I offer the perspective of the archdiocese through its Renew My Church pro-gram. RMC begins to ground its vision through the call of Pope Francis to dream big for the Church. Pope Francis states, “I dream of a ‘missionary op-tion,’ that is, a missionary impulse capable of trans-forming everything so that the church's customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today's world rather than for her self-preservation.” Evangelii Gaudium: The Joy of the Gos-pel In The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis calls for a ‘missionary option.’ In other words, he wants the Church to look outward and to reach beyond herself, as she seeks to bring Christ to the world. Every day, we see signs of pain and immense suffering even in places where we used to find comfort. We are also bearing witness to the new life and new possibilities that God offers us in the death and resurrection of His Son, which is why we must always turn and re-turn to Jesus Christ, to find our meaning. St Ignatius Parish has taken a bold step in seeking its “missionary option” as we work on developing a Mission Center with Loyola University and the local Jesuit community. By looking beyond ourselves, beyond the parish, we seek to be Christ to our neigh-bors. Our vision will become clearer in the months ahead. The good news is that we took the time last Fall to discern an option, a way of proceeding. Now we bring our option to the RMC process which en-tails the thoughtful work of partnering with St Ger-trude and St Jerome parishes, Loyola University, the local Jesuits to animate a new Church here in Rogers Park – Edgewater. Next week I will share the thoughts of Cardinal Cupich as he meets with all the pastors and pastoral coordinator starting the RMC process this coming Monday night. I strongly believe that the Holy Spirit is at work. Please keep the parish and the Renew My Church process in your prayer. Deacon Chris
Comienza Renueva Mi Iglesia Como comenté la semana pasada, San Ignacio co-mienza este mes el proceso Renueva Mi Iglesia (RMI). Al comenzar la parroquia este proceso, les ofrezco la perspectiva de la arquidiócesis en el pro-ceso Renueva Mi Iglesia. RMI basa su visión en el llamado del Papa Francisco de soñar grande para la Iglesia. Papa Francisco dice, “Sueño de una ‘opción misionera’, eso es, un impulso misionero capaz de transformar todo para que las costumbres de la igle-sia, la manera de hacer las cosas, los tiempos y hora-rios, lenguaje y estructuras puedan canalizar adecua-damente la evangelización del mundo hoy, en lugar de sólo auto conversación”. Evangelii Gaudium: La Ale-gría del Evangelio En La Alegría del Evangelio, el Papa Francisco lla-ma a ‘opción misionera.’ En otras palabras, quiere que la Iglesia mire hacia afuera y se extienda más allá de si misma, mientras busca traer Cristo al mun-do. Cada día, vemos signos de dolor e inmenso sufri-miento aun en lugares donde solíamos encontrar con-suelo. También somos testigos de la nueva vida y nuevas posibilidades que Dios nos ofrece en la muer-te y resurrección de su Hijo, por lo que siempre de-bemos dirigirnos y volver a Cristo, para encontrar sentido. La Parroquia de San Ignacio ha tomado medidas au-daces buscando su “opción misionera” mientras bus-camos desarrollar el Centro Misión con la Universi-dad de Loyola y la comunidad Jesuita. Al mirar más allá de nosotros, más allá de la parroquia, buscamos ser Cristo para nuestros vecinos. Nuestra visión será más clara en los próximos meses. La buena noticia es que nos tomamos el tiempo el otoño pasado discer-niendo una opción, una forma de proceder. Ahora traemos nuestra opción al proceso de RMI que impli-ca el trabajo reflexivo de asociarse con las parroquias de San Gertrude y San Jerónimo, la Universidad de Loyola, la comunidad Jesuita para traer una nueva Iglesia en Rogers Park – Edgewater. La semana que viene compartiré los pensamientos del Cardenal Cupich al reunirse con todos los párro-cos y el coordinador pastoral comenzando el proceso RMI el próximo lunes a la noche. All Priests, Deacons, Altar Servers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must wash their hands before Mass begins and use an alcohol based an ‐bacterial solu on before and a er distribu ng Holy Communion.
During all Masses and liturgies: Refrain from physical contact during the Sign of Peace (note: the Sign of Peace can be exchanged without physi‐cal contact) Refrain from distribu on of Holy Communion to the faithful via the chalice Every considera on should be given by each individual to receive Holy Communion reverently in open hands for the me being. Refrain from holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer. Refrain from using Holy Water fonts. Assure the faithful that if they are sick or are experienc‐ing symptoms of sickness, they are not obliged to a end Mass, and even that out of charity they ought not to a end. Please join in praying for all those who are sick, and per‐haps add a General Intercession at Mass for those affect‐ed by coronavirus and other communicable diseases. Peace,

“This isn’t a hard job, it’s a heart job.” This was the comment of one of our new volunteers. Martha and her husband Mike have been volunteering since the beginning of the year. Both retired they spend their days giving back to various community activities. It had been a busy Friday and many families had been served. While there was a break, Martha commented that St. Ignatius felt different than the other food pantry they helped. She explained that we both had similar offerings. St. Ignatius had a little more variety because of the di-verse nature of our families. It was the feel that was dif-ferent at St. Ignatius. The families greeted the volunteers like friends, family and the volunteers responded similar-ly. There was an affection and caring that she didn’t feel at the other pantry. Not to take anything away from the good work that the other pantry does, St. Ignatius just felt more “homey” to her. The volunteers that help at our pantry become part of the Ignatian Services family. We care about those that need help and those that help us pro-vide that help. We are grateful for the many hours our volunteers have given us over the years and we are also grateful for the care and consideration they give to every-one that comes to the pantry. We may not remember family’s name, but we will remember their face. We of-fer food to our neighbors. We learn their stories. They become a part of our community and a part of our heart. “No es un trabajo duro, es un trabajo del corazón.” Este fue el comentario de uno de nuestro nuevos volunta-rios. Martha y su esposo Mike comenzaron a ser volunta-rios a principio del año. Los dos jubilados, pasan sus días ayudando en varias actividades comunitarias. Hemos es-tado ocupado los viernes y muchas familias han sido ayu-dadas. En un momento de descanso, Martha comentó que San Ignacio se sentía distinta que otras despensas que ellos ayudaron. Ella nos explicó que ambas tenían ofertas similares. San Ignacio tenia un poco más de variedad por la diversidad de nuestras familias. El ambiente era dife-rente en San Ignacio. Las familias saludaban a los volun-tarios como amigos, familia y los voluntarios respondían de la misma manera. Hay una cariño y cuidado que no se sentía en las otras despensas. No para criticar lo que las otras despensas hacen. San Ignacio se siente más “hogareña” para ella. Los voluntarios que ayudan en nuestras despensa se convierten en parte de la familia de Servicios Ignacianos. Nos preocupamos por quienes ne-cesitan ayuda y quienes dan la ayuda. Estamos agradeci-dos por las muchas horas que los voluntarios nos han da-do y estamos muy agradecidos por el cuidado y atención que dan a todos los que vienen a la despensa. No siempre recordamos nombres, pero recordamos las caras. Ofrece-mos comida a nuestros vecinos, Aprendemos sus histo-rias. Son parte de nuestra comunidad y parte de nuestro corazón. Por eso decimos…

ST. IGNATIUS CHILDREN’S CHOIR
This past Saturday, the Children’s Choir participated in the 2020 Chicago Choral Festival and Mass spon-sored by the student choral group American Federa-tion Pueri Cantores. Choirs from around the mid-west were attending. The choirs were separated by their voice type and met a diverse group of children and young adults. During the day they practiced the music that would be sung that evening at the Vigil Mass at St. Vincent De Paul church. Thanks to the children for giving of their time, their parents for accompanying them and to our Music Minister, Carole Prendergast for teaching them. Thanks to the Glenola Club for help to partially cover the cost. The Children’s Choir will be part of our Lenten music
schedule.
CORO DE NIÑOS DE SAN IGNACIO
El sábado pasado, el Coro de los Niños participo en el Festival Coral 2020 Chicago y Misa organizado para el grupo coral de estudiantes American Federa-tion Pueri Cantores. Participaron coros de alrededor del Midest. Los coros fueron separados por su tipo de voz y se reunieron con un diverso grupo de niños y jóvenes adultos. Durante el día practicaron la músi-ca que cantarían esa noche en la Misa de Vigilia en la iglesia St. Vincent De Paul. Gracias a los niños de dar de su tiempo, los padres por acompañarnos y a nuestra Ministra de Música, Carole Prendergast por enseñarles. Gracias al Glenola Club por ayudar a cu-brir parcialmente el costo. El Coro de Niños será par-te de nuestro música de Cuaresma.

Christ’s Passion and Death of the Cross. You are invited every Friday during Lent at 7 pm in the Chapel. We will alternate between Enlgish and Spanish. Easy‐to‐follow booklets will be provided. Following the Sta ons, stay for a potluck Simple Supper in the Holy Name Room.
Lenten Reflec on Book Group: The Lenten Reflec on Book Group will beet on Sun‐days in the Canteen from 10:30 am‐11:30 pm. The book that will be discussed is “Love, A Guide for Prayer” and follows the model of the Exercise form St. Igna us of Loyola. Contact Deacon Chris Murphy if you are interested.

LENTEN APPEAL
Each week during Lent, we will be taking up a sec-ond collection. Part of the discipline of Lent is alms-giving. This is giving as a virtue to help others. Last week the second collection helped support Catholic Education – this is in keeping with the social teach-ing of sharing and teaching the faith. Today, the col-lection will go to complete the restoration around the Presentation stained glass window. We were able to restore the Nativity stained glass window and the paint around the window through the generosity of parishioners. When workmen came to prepare for painting, they informed us that the area around the Presentation window was in dire need of repair. Se-rious negotiation was involved, and a deal was struck to include the painting of the Presentation window. Your contribution this week will help us continue to keep the church in good repair. COLECTA DE CUARESMA
Cada semana durante la Cuaresma, tendremos una segunda colecta. Parte de la disciplina de Cuaresma es donación. Es una forma de dar como manera de ayudar a otros. La semana pasada la segunda colecta ayudó a la Educación Católica aquí– esto nos ayuda con la enseñanza social de compartir y enseñar la fe. Hoy la segunda colecta será para completar la restau-ración de la ventana de la Presentación. Hemos podi-do restaurar la ventana del Nacimiento de Jesús y la pintura alrededor de la ventana gracias a la generosi-dad de los feligreses. Cuando los trabajadores vinie-ron a trabajar en la primera ventana, nos informaron que la ventana de la Presentación estaba en necesi-dad urgente de reparación. Realizamos fuertes nego-ciaciones y logramos hacer un acuerdo para incluir la ventana de la Presentación. Su contribución de esta semana nos ayudar a mantener la iglesia en buen es-tado.
