Regarding the bringing of a קרבן, the Torah says: אדם כי יקריב מכם קרבן לה'.... The מפרשיםask why did the Torah specifically choose the word אדםto describe a person when there are many other words that could have been used ? The Midrash quoted in רש יanswers that the word אדםwas used to turn our focus to אדם הראשון, the first man. We know that אדם הראשוןdid not offer any offerings to Hashem from stolen goods because the entire world be- longed to him. The Midrash says, we too should make sure that anything used in the service of Hashem not be acquired illegally. The lesson here is that one has no right to harm others in his efforts to serve Hashem. Another example is found in this week’s Parsha when we compare the laws of offer- ing cattle to that of a bird for a קרבן עולה, a burnt offering. When bringing a ram, the kohen first washes the internal organs and then all the limbs are burned on the מזבח. Concerning a bird, the Torah commands us to remove and discard the intestines before offering the rest of the bird on the מזבח. The reason given is that a bird flies around and takes food from wherever it pleases, even stealing food that was not apportioned for it. A domesticated animal has an owner and only eats what is given to it by its own- er. Hashem says, “I don’t want anything which was stolen to be brought on My מזבח, even the remains of stolen food found in- side the intestines of a bird.” The lesson reinforced is that we should not serve Ha- shem at another’s expense. A famous story is told about Rav Yisroel Salanter who witnessed someone running swiftly into the shul to say Kedusha. In his haste, he stepped upon the newly polished shoes of another man. Rav Yisroel went over to him after davening and told him he had a financial re- sponsibility to pay the oth- er man to have his shoes repolished. In and Around the Yeshiva From the Music Corner

We are all enjoying an exciting musical year in the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey. We have many enthusiastic and talented students who are singing and performing their way through the calendar year. On Thursday, March 12, 2015, under the leadership of their music teacher Mrs. Zitter, a.k.a Morah Hadassa, we had two recitals in RYNJ. We would like to thank all those who participated. We had musicians on piano, guitar, violin, trumpet, recorder, flute and drums. – representing all four sections of the orchestra: strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion. The following students participated in this year’s programs: (Names are listed in the order in which they per-formed.) Sophie Knapp, Nosson Feigenbaum, Ora Stavsky, Elisha Gamss, Kayla Mandel, Baruch Goldenberg, Moshe Rosenbluth, Chanala Elishis, Alexander Cooper, Judah Vogel, Sarah Fried, Akiva Gelernter, Yitzi Rosenbluth, Alexander Cohen, Yael Zucker-braun and Elisheva Tamarov. These students performed in the first recital. Our second recital, which by the way, was part of our 16th annual program, included the following students: Sara Kahan, Sara Moskowitz, Shira Lejtman, Moshe Rosen-bluth, Shira Friedenberg, Adira Marcus, Hefzibah Weill, Leora Salamon, Shifra Zahtz, Shana Markowitz, Talia Wallach, Tali Pfeiffer, Miriam Blech, Temimah Schulhof, Aliza Cohen, Talia Distenfeld, Aliza Poloner, Adina Shapiro, Adina Zahtz, Goldie Hein, Aliza Schiff, Aviga-yil Rosenbluth, Shoshana Elishis, Devorah Klein-man, Chani Shulman, Milla Gitlin, Yael Zucker-braun, Ariella Krinitz and Elisheva Tamarov. Represented in these performances

were children in first through seventh grade. Our thanks go to all those brave and tal-ented musicians who en-

tertained the school at these recitals. Some of our students have been per-forming for many years and it is truly exciting to see the progress they have made. A shout-out to the wonderful and dedicated families ( Feigenbaum and Krinitz) who schlepped the instru-ments into school --- particularly the drum sets that had to be dismantled and assembled –- not an easy job!! We also enjoyed seeing so many of the families who joined us for the performances and shared in much nachas. חג כשר ושמח!

In and Around the Yeshiva 1 final Sunday school--->39 forbidden labors of Shabbat---> one sheep, one deer, one Melacha Man! 8G was up to the challenge of hands on creat-ing as they literally worked their way through the 39 Avot Melacha of

Shabbat.

The girls of 6G creatively and deliciously explained the 4 Mitzvos Mem of Purim on a box, in an "out of the box" way! They researched the mitzvah using the kitzur shulchan aruch, and created a unique cereal box using the infor-mation learned about the mitzvah. Some creative titles were "Mishteh Mix,

Tzedakah O's, Mishloach Munchies, Special 'Mem'" and more! The cereal shapes, ingredients, nutrition facts, serving sizes were specific for their mitz-vah, but all included 100% simcha! A delicious, (not necessarily nutritious) unique, and tasteful learning was enjoyed by all!!! Morah Staum

Color War 2015 By: Mia Nissel, Shoshana Distenfeld, and Shoshi Blech Just last Wednesday, on Color War Culmination Day, the three teams of Dagan, Tirosh, and Yitzhar, faced off in the Beit Midrash. Only one emerged a winner, but all three joined together to create the best color war RYNJ has ever seen. Throughout this “war”, green, white, and red showed tremendous Achdut and really came together as one junior high. As the three generals, we would like to thank all of our teammates for all the work they put into stomp, choir, banner, sculpture, Pow-erPoint, and so much more. You all truly made this the greatest color war.
