Project Description: The NDC will propose design strategies for three sites located in Southside Columbus on Parsons Avenue.
1. Food Hub
2. Food Forest
3. Pop-up Container Yard
Site one, the Food Hub, will include a kitchen, production, education, and retail building. The second site will be a Food Forest, which is a semi-dense edible garden. The third site is a Pop-up Space, which holds shipping con-tainers and possesses the ability to host festivals as well as community activities.

The Third Place: “The Food Campus is meant to insert the notion of the ‘Third Place” into people’s lives, which now typically consists of work and home. The Third Place would be a community space that is able to relieve people of their duties at home or at work and successfully immerse them into a happy community environment.

• The building envelope is stretched to the maximum, in particular, the front edge along Parsons Avenue.

TAKING CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE NEIGHBORING MALONEY CENTER, THE FIRST FLOOR SUCEEDS FROM THE RECTANGULAR BOUNDARY OF THE BUILDING, CONTINUING THE COURTYARD THAT THE MALONEY CENTER IMPOSES. THE FIRST FLOOR IS INTERSECTED BY A COURTYARD THAT LENDS ITSELF TO BECOME INHABITABLE SPACE FOR THE POP-UP RESTAURANT. THIS COURTYARD SEPERATES TWO VERY DIFFERENT PROGRAMMATIC TYPES, WHICH WOULD BE THE RETAIL AND VISITOR CENTER FROM KITCHENS, SHIPPING AND RECEIVING, AND RESTAURANT. THE SECOND FLOOR ALSO USES THE IDEA OF SETTING THE BUILDING BACK FROM THE BOUNDARY, BUT IS UTILIZED IN ANOTHER WAY BY THEN MAKING THESE SPACES ROOF TERRACES AND GARDENS.
