Research, Network, Follow up!
Research the organisations attending By doing a little research on each organisation beforehand, you will gain an overview
of the sectors in which they operate and the types of role they have available. This
will enable you to ask representatives more specific, in-depth questions. You may
also wish to tailor a version of your CV so that it meets a particular company’s
requirements.
Use your time wisely Decide which organisations you want to approach and what you want to ask them.
Think about what you want to get out of the event – whether you are simply
gathering information, getting a ‘feel’ for the different types of company and
opportunity available, or performing a more targeted search for a particular kind of
position.
Ask questions If you’ve done your research, then you should have plenty of questions to ask
potential employers e.g. about the time commitment involved, training provided, etc.
Go with an open mind While you may have a clear idea of the companies that interest you the most, you
may also come across the unexpected. Have an open mind and be prepared to
investigate.
Follow up afterwards Visiting the fair is just the beginning. Remember to follow up with any contacts you make.
