Part-time Peer Recovery Coach Definition of Work: This is a treatment staff position that involves service, education, advocacy, and
support to persons in recovery. Recovery Coaches perform a variety of services at SRDRC, including
triage for clients in active addiction who need acute linkage and referral services, community outreach
at public events, direct client outreach at food pantries or other community resources, and many other
responsibilities. This position requires flexible scheduling to meet the needs of each county, but will
guarantee 20 hours of work per week.
Examples of Work Performed:
Provide service, education, and advocacy for recovery
Facilitate support group meetings
Meet individually with participants to provide mentoring and guidance through the recovery process
Work closely with the treatment staff, reporting concerns or suggestions regarding participant risks and needs on a weekly basis
Community outreach to educate public on the possibility of long-term recovery and the services available at SRDRC
Direct outreach to those in active addiction to engage them into treatment Desirable Knowledge, Ability, and Skills:
Currently in recovery with minimum 1-year sobriety
Knowledge of, and respect for, various paths and programs of recovery
Involvement in a recovery program
Ability to interact with compassion and patience with participants in the early stages of recovery
WV Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification
Excellent organization skills and ability to keep good records of outreach
Requirements:
High school Graduate or GED; personal lived experience with substance use disorder; one year minimum
of sobriety and ability to pass random urine drug screens; ability to work flexible hours from week to
week; ability to commit to working 20 hours per week; no personal legal involvement in the last six
months; and no history of intensive behavioral health treatment in the last six months.
About SRDRC: The Southwestern Regional Day Report Center offers quality substance abuse
treatment to all adult residents of Boone, Lincoln, Logan, and Mingo Counties to assist them in making a
positive change towards becoming productive citizens. All clients have access to a full mental health
assessment and an individualized treatment plan, potentially including individual therapy, group
therapy, recovery meetings, intensive case management, recovery coaching, linkage and referral to
detox or inpatient treatment, and many other support services. Additionally, SRDRC offers an intensive
outpatient treatment and re-entry program, Fresh Start, and the Directions treatment supervision
program.
