PARTICIPANT INFORMATION OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY Title: How Do Scientists Conduct Research on Ancient Climate? Investigator(s): Tracy Quan, Oklahoma State University Purpose: The purpose of the research study is to evaluate the quality and efficacy of an educational activity via an online survey. Participants must be 18 years or older to complete the survey, and must have used the educational activity in their classroom. What to Expect: This research study is administered online. Participants must be teachers who have used the educational activity titled "How Do Scientists Conduct Research on Ancient Climate?" in their classroom. Participation in this research will involve completion of an optional online survey; only teachers willing to give feedback to the activity's designers should participate. This survey will ask general questions regarding the number and grade level of the participating students, your teaching experience and background, how the activity was used, and the quality and efficacy of the activity. You may skip any question that you do not wish to answer. No identifying personal information will be asked. The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Feedback via this survey may be given each time the educational activity is taught in the classroom. Risks: There are no risks associated with this project which are expected to be greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life. No identifying personal information will be requested; you may skip any question you do not wish to answer. Benefits: You may gain an appreciation and understanding of the efficacy of the educational activity and the goals of the activity's designers. Your answers will provide general data for the activity's designers to assess the quality of the activity, which will allow them to develop better educational lessons in the future. Group analysis of the data may also be published in an educational journal article or conference presentation describing the development and assessment of the educational activity. Compensation: No compensation will be offered. Your Rights and Confidentiality: Your participation in this research is voluntary. There is no penalty for refusal to participate, and you are free to withdraw your consent and not submit your replies at any point during the survey prior to final submission without penalty. Confidentiality: All information about you will be kept confidential and will not be released. Surveys will be anonymous, and will not ask for any personal or identifying information. The data will be examined as a group, and not on an individual basis.
