Content Aware Compression techniques provide enhanced benefits for Enterprise Web Applications
Improved processing latency by intelligent selection of compression techniquesUse CaseSolution
Benefits
• Web pages with significantly compressed content (e.g. jpeg, gzip file downloads etc)• WAAS determines content type using http headers and turns off LZ compression when needed to avoid processing latency• Faster download times for web pages with images, rich media or compressed files
Increased redundancy eliminationUse CaseSolution
Benefits
• Multiple users downloading same content with different cookie/header• WAAS parses http response to skip header bytes and accurately locate actual content• Accurate content location improves cache hit ratio and provides better redundancy elimination• Lesser data on WAN results in faster download times and faster browser page loads• Improved compression frees more WAN bandwidth for other applications
Better WAAS compression in lieu of sub-optimal server compressionUse CaseSolution
Benefits
• Web servers that compress data using sub-optimal techniques compared to WAAS• WAAS modifies HTTP header fields and requests web server to turn off its native compression• WAAS optimizes traffic using its optimization techniques.• Elimination of compression overhead on server and client improves response• Lesser data on WAN results in faster download times and faster browser page loads• Improved compression frees more WAN pipe for other users and applications

Problem – Deployment Considerations WebEx provider has multiple SaaS SSL servers & data center WAAS device needs to
know all the IP address/hostnames to supply appropriate certificate to client Finding all DNS hostnames or IP addresses for WebEx servers is difficult WebEx provider may add or remove hostnames or change IP addresses
Solution Provide single wildcard domain suffix for all WebEx SSL services i.e. “*.webex.com”
WAAS uses reverse DNS to match traffic belonging to this domain Configuration of multiple IP addresses is not needed
Solution is applicable for other SaaS and enterprise SSL applications Benefits Transparent “one-click” solution that minimizes IT administrative tasks Competitive Advantage Leading WAN optimization vendor to offer enterprise class solution
Easy deployment for optimization of cloud based SaaS applications

Problem – Deployment Considerations Data center WAAS device needs destination SSL Server IP address to provide appropriate
SSL certificate to client Change in SSL server IP address requires update on WAAS device WAAS updates ensure application continues to be fully optimized
Solution Provide DNS hostname to WAAS for SSL servers (e.g. “hr.cisco.com”)
WAAS keeps track of IP address changes for the hostname Solution is applicable for enterprise SSL as well as SaaS applications
Benefits Transparent easy to use solution minimizes IT administrative tasks & simplifies operations Competitive Advantage Only WAN optimization vendor to offer enterprise class solution

WAAS Serial Inline ClusterSolution Overview
Serial Cluster
InlineWAE
InlineWAE (Up to 2)
Dual WAN Links
Dual WAN Links
Solution Up to two inline cards on data center platforms Supports up to 4 inline groups WAE-7371, WAE-7341, WAE-674
Supports multiple WAN links in data center E.g. 2 WAN routers mesh connected to two L3 switches
Up to 2 WAEs in a serial cluster for HA Second device is not recommended for scale
High Availability On WAE failure, inline card puts all traffic in bypass. Traffic is handled by second WAE.
Asymmetric routing support Supported if WAE is deployed across all asymmetric paths If WAN routers in asymmetric path are geographically separated then WCCP can be used

Simplified Data Center Deployment –Serial Inline Cluster Solution
Benefits Reduced operational complexity for small and medium sized deployments
No configuration changes needed on routers or switches No dependency on router software versions Simple work flows for PoC/Pilot and for cutover to production Ease of use when WAN routers managed by a Service Provider
Faster roll out and shorter time to return on investment
Competitive AdvantagesInline solution that minimizes latency for jitter sensitive traffic such as VoIPFor solutions requiring greater scale, Cisco provides the most robust WCCP based deployment solutions

Problem: For custom apps needing high network throughput, I/O performance needs to be optimized
For apps like AD, Print, DNS, DHCP, Network I/O is not a significant factor in performance VB services sees Virtual-NIC – an emulated Physical NIC in software. Emulation of I/O devices without Para Virtualized (PV) driver can lead to lower app performance
Solution: Virtualization layer is PV-enabled Custom Windows Application has Para-Virtualized (PV) drivers (OS specific) for improved network I/O PV driver delivers efficient hardware access to Physical NIC, that improves performance for the
custom applications, which need high network throughput.
