Dear Families,

Valentine’s Day kicked off Sherwood’s 17 days of Kindness Campaign. Staff and students have been promoting the campaign in many ways. For example, teachers received many letters from students and friends on February 26th thanking them for their hard work and dedication to children. Teachers have been working with their students to play with a different friend or say a kind word to someone. We are hoping that the campaign will promote acts of kindness and positivity will continue to grow throughout the remainder of the year!

As we continue our march through the second semester, the focus will be on student engagement! Many parents attended our first student-led conference night, where students shared their i-Ready data with families. Research has shown that by conducting student-led conferences, students take more responsibility and ownership of their learning. They will start working on goal-setting and strategies to reach these goals. We are ending February with a focus on Science. Sherwood had our third annual Mad Scientist Day! The teachers conducted hands-on experiments with their classes that fostered inquiry and investigation by the students. Students were very engaged while going through the scientific process.

Important dates from Johnson Middle:

The deadline for submission of completed AVID applications is March 1.

Acceptance/denial/wait notices for AVID will be sent via email to the address listed on the application the week of April 11.

Accepted students will be invited to the Contract Signing Ceremony on May 9.

Students who submitted an AVID application must sit for an interview with a parent either April 16th or 17th. The interview is 10 minutes, and parents may come as early as 5:00 pm, or at the latest 7:20 pm, in our media center. We are not scheduling interviews; parents simply come at a time that is convenient during the window on either of these two dates. The interview must take place in order to be considered for the program.

Sherwood Policies Reminder

Teacher and staff arrival time is 7:30 a.m. If you need to drop students off before 7:30 a.m. a parent or a sibling 18 years or older must wait with them. If you cannot wait please arrange for them to attend our before school care program. It opens at 6:30 a.m.

We are getting concerned calls from parents and visitors that students sitting alone are not following school safety procedures.

Students not picked up by 2:50 p.m. will be sent to the Brevard After School Program for a fee of $25.00.

All classroom doors and inside building doors will remain locked during the day for safety.

PBIS School Store

The school store is in need of gently used toys. Students use STARSbucks to buy incentives at the

store every other week. All donations may be sent in to the office. Thank you for supporting our program.
