the inside of a book has many parts
• We’ve already looked at one part of the insides of a book: “The Title Page”
• Now lets looks at some other parts!
The Table of Contents
• The TABLE OF CONTENTS is one of the first pages of a book. It tells:
• CHAPTERS (the divisions within a book)
• PAGES (which page each chapter starts on)
PARTS OF THE contents
These are the names of the chapters
These are the page numbers the chapters
start on
• The GLOSSARY is usually in the back of the book.
• The GLOSSARY gives the definitions of words that you may not understand.
• In a way, it’s like a little dictionary for the book!
PARTS OF
Gives the word (in alphabetical
order)
And what the word means (the definition).
This also tells you what page the word is found
• The INDEX is at the very back of the book.
• An INDEX lists the various subjects found in the book (in alphabetical order), and what page they can be found.
• Usually, only NON-FICTION books have indexes.

• The BIBLIOGRAPHY is at the back of some non-fiction books.
• A BIBLIOGRAPHY lists other books and information sources the author may have used to write their book.
• Usually, only NON-FICTION books have bibliographies.

In ALPHABETICAL ORDER by the
AUTHOR’S last name.
