Parts of Speech

Noun
A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing or idea. Examples: river, Juan, beach
Note: Proper nouns are capitalized, like Texas or Atlantic Ocean.
Verb
A verb expresses action or a state of being.
Examples: walk, build, communicate, write, listen, is, does, have
Adjective
An adjective describes or modifies a noun.
Examples: handsome, groomed, smart
Adverb
An adverb describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or other adverb.
Examples: quickly, bravely, very
Pronoun
A pronoun takes the place of a noun.
Examples: I, you, he, she, it
Preposition
A preposition shows the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word.
Examples: inside, outside, on, in, with, after, before, among, between, under, over
Conjunction
A conjunction is a word used to connect clauses or sentences.
Examples: and, but, or, so, yet
Interjection
An interjection is an abrupt remark that usually ends in an exclamation point.
Examples: Hey! Oh! Wow!
