Open space office environments Today, many companies and organisations decide to implement large, open space office environments in which flexibility, knowledge sharing and team work are given pride of place. The open office environments are often marked by architectural minimalism with hard surfaces in glass, concrete and steel. There is no doubt that the stylistically consistent expression looks good. However, often the working environment is forgotten in the planning process which expresses itself through a bad indoor climate which may have consequences for the employees staying in the office environment on a regular basis.

When communication becomes noise Changed work processes and an increasing need for project work has moved employees from one-man offices into the open office landscape. Noise is often emphasised as being one of the great sinners in these open office environments. The fact that activities requiring concentration are forced to co-exist with sources of noise such as footsteps, speech and machines often give rise to noise related problems.

Proper furnishing paysProper furnishing with carefully chosen materials yield happy employees and as conse-quence causes a lower degree of absence due to illness. Therefore, it is important to leave nothing to chance when designing the interior of an office environment. Over the years, we have specialised in creating carpet solutions, contributing positively to ensuring healthy and motivating working environments.

NONO - no noise runners from ege is an ideal concept when fighting problems associated with poor acoustic properties in rooms with many hard surfaces and rooms in which a total renovation project is either not feasible or wanted.

Why choose carpet runners from ege? Correct acoustic properties set the foundation for a good and healthy sound environment. Often, poor acoustics in a room are caused by smooth flooring solutions reflecting the sound into the room. Carpets are great sound absorbers. In fact, a carpeted floor diminishes the impact of noise by up to 34 dB, as a carpet unlike a hard flooring solution absorbs the majority of the sound which strikes it, rather than reflecting the sound and thereby the noise out into the room.

You gain many advantages by installing carpet runners from ege. You receive an attractive flooring solution and at the same time, a flexible acoustical aid which reduces the impact of noise. All you need to do is to roll out the runners on the floor and you will feel the difference at once – for the benefit of your employees and yourself.

An effective solution

The head office of the Central Denmark Region, which is one of five administrative units in Denmark, has since March 2007 been housed in an old industrial building located in the heart of the city of Horsens. The manufacturing building named Bastian, which has previously housed both woodware factory and telephone production, has been scheduled as a monument, a status which played an important role in connection with the renovation of the building.

- Today, the regional head office in Horsens is place of employment for approximately 125 employees. In connection with the renovation of the building, it was important for us to ensure the foundation for a good working environment. Due to the building being scheduled as a monument, an extensive and total renovation as never been part of our considerations. We wanted the former function of the building as a woodware factory to be clearly reflected in both the interior design and the choice of materials.

- The regional office has many large, open spaces with many hard surfaces in concrete and wood. Today, these open spaces are used as large office environments. The many hard surfaces had great impact on the indoor climate of the office environments and noise was often emphasised as being one of the worst problems in the indoor climate.

- As the many hard surfaces represent an important part of the building’s history, we were not able to simply replace the hard surfaces. Therefore, we had to find an alternative solution which was suitable for the existing interior design concept. We therefore decided to supplement corridors and meeting rooms with carpet runners from ege.Having installed carpet runners we have found a flexible solution which was not only easy to install but which at the same time made it possible for us to maintain the historic, industrial appearance of the building. Furthermore, we have solved the problems associated with excessive noise.

After completion of the renovation project, Jes Pedersen, who is Office Manager at the Horsens Regional Office, has received positive feedback from employees in the offices regarding the new carpet runners.

A good indoor climate with carpets

- When we had to decide on what to choose for the floor in our new head office in Solna, we discussed parameters such as acoustics, static electricity, cleaning quality and ergo-nomics. We arrived at the conclusion that carpets from ege were the right solution for areas in the building where an acoustical indoor climate is a precondition for creating a good working environment.

Today, carpets offer high wearability, good acoustical properties, fire safety, antistatic properties and easy maintenance. We have received many positive comments from allergy suffers in the offices, stating that they fell less irritated by suspended dust particles in the air.

Highline runners The runners collection is calculated according to a production width of 4 metres. To ensure optimal utilisation of this width, the largest possible number of runners is therefore always produced across the production width. The pattern repeats in the collection are available in three different sizes: 97.5 cm, 130 cm and 195 cm. If e.g. a pattern repeat of 97.5 cm is chosen, a total of four runners will be produced to ensure utilisation of the complete production width.

Mini runner: 97,5 cm – 4 runners, Runner: 130 cm – 3 runners, Corridor: 195 cm – 2 runners

NB: If to or more runners are welded together as one long runners, an additional charge is added to ensure proper pattern fitting.
