Passfield Park School Diary Dates………. December 18 Last day of T4 for students January 29 First day of T1 2014 Dear Parents and Carers Reports coming home Why is it that the end of the year suddenly comes upon us?! Staff have been working together, testing and writing and reflecting upon student learning, and saw school reports going home. I hope you enjoyed reading about your child’s progress as much as I did – I can also share that more than one teacher has written about the students and shed a tear at the amazing things the children have learnt. I have also been thrilled at the depth of knowledge concerning learning that has been shared. Please take time to read the report and celebrate your child’s achievements with your family. Fundraising Thanks to all our families for supporting the sausage sizzle and mufti day for Yotala Gym this week – we raised $170. Also a big thank you to all for your contributions for our Christmas raffle which will be drawn on Friday 13 th (ooops!), with the amount raised to be advised at a later date. Huge thanks to Angie, Mel, Robyn and Cristina for putting the baskets together and organising the raffle tickets. And what are we getting for Christmas? No, it’s not a secret – the bus is on it’s way! We managed to raise our share of the money and Variety have taken on our request for help – we have fingers, toes, and everything crossed that we’ll have the bus for the new year, complete with the wheelchair lift. Very exciting indeed. Presentation Day Thank you everyone who attended Presentation Day on Wednesday. I have had lovely feedback from our special guests who were very impressed with the maturity of the whole school. I thought that the performances were just brilliant! I was also extremely proud of Daniel, Keeghan and Shada who were fabulous as the MCs on the day. I am very proud of these three young students and their confidence in running such an event. How Spectacular was that! I hope you managed to see our students at the Schools Spectacular this year – once again, the students performed to an extremely high standard! Well done Aimee, Blair, Daniel, Jesse M, Jeremy and Raya. Many thanks to Alison S, Kris B, Michele and Mandy for giving up three days and staying with the students in Sydney (even though I know you had as much fun as the students – shhh, I won’t tell!), and for the great fundraising that went on to ensure that the students were well supported for the event. Thank you Julie December 13, 2013 Fond Farewells for Green Class Congratulations to Shada, Daniel and Keegan (Blue Class) for doing such a great job as MCs at Presen- tation Day. Congratulations also to Ben who will be School Vice-Captain next year. We are sad to be saying goodbye to Andrew, Dan- iel, Ethan, Farabi, Hala, Jeremy and Jessica as they finish school and move on to new adventures. We are going to miss them but want to wish them much happiness and success. We are very proud of each of them. It has been a privilege to work together with their families and I would like to thank them for al- lowing me to share in this journey. It has been a pleasure to watch each student grow and mature into a capable and confident young adult. I am sure they will each go on to achieve even bigger and bet- ter things in the years ahead. Alison S and Julie B A Fond Farewell With all the excitement of holidays, presents and good wishes everywhere, it is also a time to farewell a large cohort of lovely young people who are leav- ing school and beginning their life as young adults in the community. We all wish them well, and hope that they continue to work hard and bring their skills and personalities to the next phase of their lives – goodbye and the very best of luck, Andrew ,Daniel, Ethan, Farabi, Hala, Jeremy, Jessica, and Mark. Please remember to call in to tell us of your pro- gress from time to time! We also farewell Logan and McCallum, who are leaving us to join support classes in local public schools. We wish you boys continued success! Thank you one and all I would like to thank each and every member of our school community for the help and support offered to our students this year. Without the collaboration between home, school and the wider community, the students would not be achieving the results that are happening. There is a selfless generosity about our Passfield Park School community, and it is a community that is accepting, tolerant and super sup- portive. So thank you, everyone, for making this school a wonderful place to come to every day! Have a happy and safe holiday – see you on Janu- ary 29th, 2014! Julie Principal

Peanut Allergy Just a reminder not to pack peanut related foods for your child to bring to school. This includes nutella sandwiches. Some of our students have severe peanut allergies. Thank you for your consideration.

Snakes Alive in Purple Class! Purple Class recently finished making snakes during Art lessons. In the beginning, stuffing the ties with wadding proved to be a challenge, however by the completion of the activity, there was an obvious im-provement in each student’s fine motor skills and eve-ryone was delighted with their finished product. Last week’s swimming carnival was a great day. Stu-dents enjoyed freestyle and backstroke races; kick-board and noodle races; the ball scramble as well as splashing around and having lots of fun with the beach balls and noodles during free time. Sarah also enjoyed playing with the beach balls with Hala and Mrs Davies. Thank you Mr Fleming for organising such a wonderful day! It was lovely to see so many parents at Presentation Day this year. We hope you are as proud of your chil-dren’s achievements as we are. They have all worked very well throughout the year and deserve to be acknowledged for their wonderful efforts. Thank you to our students’ parents and carers for your ongoing support. We wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to see-ing you all again in 2014.

Presenting Blue Class It is hard to believe that another school year has come to an end. Blue class has had a very busy term. The beginning of Term 4 saw us going on ex-cursions as mentioned in the last newsletter. Since then the students have represented Passfield Park School at Schools Spectacular – well done to Blair, Jesse, Raya and Aimee for all the effort you put into rehearsing and your performance; Student Voice – thank you for your contribution, Blair, Kee-ghan and Zac; and Open Access Forum where the whole class along with Green Class performed. We are very proud of your efforts. Presentation Day once again, showcased our fabulous performanc-es. Blue Class along with fellow students, participated in the school swimming carnival. The students were able to show their swimming skills by entering vari-ous races. They also enjoyed the novelty races, such as the ball scamble where they were required to scoop up as many ping pong balls as possible into a bucket. For our end of year celebrations, we are planning a picnic at a local park. We will combine healthy rolls with treats and work it all off on the play equip-ment. Birthday wishes go to Keeghan who celebrated his birthday in November. The staff of Blue Class wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas break. We look forward to seeing the students in 2014.

All Going Swimmingly in Orange Class

The end of year already! Wow it has gone very fast. Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to make it to Presentation Day on Wednes-day. It was lovely to see you and share our joy. We were very proud of the boys and how they be-haved at this event to celebrate all they have achieved this year. We know you will enjoy read-ing their reports. Last week all the boys participated in the school swimming carnival and they all did well and had a great time swimming and playing in the pool. Thank you to carers and grandparents who helped to ensure that the carnival was enjoyed by all the boys. We wish you all a happy and safe holiday and look forward to seeing all of you next year.

How quickly 2013 has past and what an interest-ing, inspiring and pleasant year it has been. This term, students really enjoyed sessions at Monkey Mania and exhausted themselves each week, running, climbing, sliding and shooting goals. All year, Pink Class students have been a pleasure to take out, as they stay with the group and follow instructions. They have become so skilled at stay-ing together, as a group, that we even ventured to Minto Marketplace on its opening day and walked around the mall and shopped in KMart amongst the crowds of people. All eight students were ex-cellent during this shopping venture. A busy and enjoyable time was had by all at the swimming carnival last Friday. We are excited about our visit to St Andrews Fire Station, with Sil-ver and Red Classes to round off our unit of work on community helpers. Thank you Pink Class students and parents for a thoroughly enjoyable year. Hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas break and all the best for the future.

Little Wonders in Silver Class Silver Class has had a wonderful year and stu-dents have made great progress. Silver Class cre-ated some beautiful Christmas craft and enjoyed a Christmas party on Presentation Day. Silver Class thoroughly enjoyed their day at the swimming car-nival. They participated in all the races and loved their free play in the water. This term, Silver Class has been participating in gross motor play at Lolli-pops Playland. The students have enjoyed ball games, climbing and going down the slides, play-ing with their friends and going on the Tea Cup ride. Season Greetings to all and happy holidays!

Happy Workers in White Class Each morning, White Class waters and weeds the garden and checks for pests. This term we have been growing radishes, lettuce and carrots. The radishes were first to harvest. We didn’t like these as they were too hot and peppery. The carrots and lettuce are being harvested and we use them for cooking. The carrots are of the harlequin variety so are different colours – red, green and white. They look different but taste the same. The lettuce we are using in salad. It is great to eat our own produce. As well as gardening, White Class works around the school doing shredding, washing, crushing cans, making badges and running the canteen program. We like to keep busy. Now the school year is coming to an end so we are thinking of holidays and parties. It is time to say goodbye to Mark and we wish him every success. We wish you all a happy holiday.

All’s Fare in Red Class Students of Red Class along with Silver and Pink classes, enjoyed the excursion to the fire station which included fire safety education. They experi-enced the basic operations of the fire station and learnt about fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles and equip-ment. The school swimming carnival was an op-portunity for swimmers in Red Class to test their skills in the pool against their peers in a comfortable, supportive and accessible environ-ment. While some were excited and enthusiastic about competing against their peers, others had fun splashing and playing ball games. For a few, swimming was great therapy. During this Christmas festive season, students have had fun cooking delicious food gifts for their families including cupcakes and Christmas cook-ies. The class painted a huge Christmas tree and blue tacked it to the wall and then made gorgeous decorations for the tree. Each student also made their very own Santa puppet. We enjoyed the Christmas songs and stories. Another year has whizzed past, with all students in Red Class having made impressive progress. It has been very exciting to see them strive hard to achieve their individual targeted goals. Thanks to the parents and carers who attended the Presentation Day, encouraging your children with your presence and sharing in their very many successes. It has been a pleasure to teach Red Class this year and we are very proud of all they have achieved. We wish all stu-dents, parents and carers a happy and safe holiday and a very merry Christmas.

I cannot believe the end of year has come so fast. Stay safe over the holiday and I will always re-member you all as very exceptional kids.

Inspirational Yellow Class A fantastic day filled with fun was had by all, as the students of Yellow Class participated in the various events offered at the school swimming carnival last Friday. With the strong emphasis on participation, the carnival was a real success with everyone having a go. In this wonderful atmos-phere of positivity, the students in Yellow Class certainly enjoyed the day and it was a good way to finish their year together. This year, Yellow Class comprised of eight stu-dents from Years 3 to 5, who all have inspired me every day by their shining personalities, energetic pursuit of knowledge and their commitment to learning. I am very proud of each student’s suc-cesses. I would like to take a moment to thank Narelle and Kalisi for their hard work, expertise and support to promote the students of Yellow Class’s learning. We all have been encouraged by every student’s hard work, enthusiasm and progress. As we have marvelled at their strengths, drive to learn and their tenacity to achieve, congratulations on your progress Emily, Cassandra, Tia, Ronnan, McCallum, Jacob, Jackson and Mahib.

Green Class Student Report Green Class has been busy during the last few weeks. In Week 6 we went to Flip Out. This place has a lot of tram-polines. Daniel was stuck in the foam pit. He thought he wouldn’t survive but he made it out alive – without his socks. In week 7 we went to Wollongong. We saw Mrs McGuinness’ new house (it was beautiful) and visited her mum’s place. Some of us played tennis on the court. We went for a walk on Bulli Beach. In week 8 we went to Macarthur Square for lunch. Two days later Daniel and Jeremy went to the city for the 30th Schools Spectacular. Daniel was separat-ed from the rest of our group to be on stage for the finale with 10 students from the other segments. In week 9 we went swimming and the next day Green Class and Blue Class performed at the Open Access Forum. On the Thursday we went to the opening day of the new Minto Mar-ketplace and on Friday was the school swimming carnival. We watched Jessica’s progress at the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games and we were very excited to see she had won one gold medal and two bronze medals. Congratulations Jessica. This week we went to Lizard Log Park at Cecil Hills. It was very hot. We got wet playing with the water pump and went on the flying fox.

On Thursday morning, 6 students went to the city for the 30th Schools Spectacular. We were in Segment 5. When lining up, I was separated from my classmates. I was part of Josh’s Mob. Our song was Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jespen. For the finale, I was chosen to represent the D’Arts Ensemble. Since the performances began num-bers began to increase. On Friday afternoon I had 6, during the night I had 8, during the matinee I had 9 and in the evening I had 10 helpers. I was positioned between Rachel and Rosie, one of our dance captains. I had 2 from Carmen, 1 from Diamonds, 1 from Best Night, 2 from Eve-rybody Needs a Best Friend, 2 from Wings but Rosie did Good Time with me, 1 from Hall of Fame and 1 from the Hip Hop ensemble help me out throughout. For an added effect we used Flashing Rings.
