Example: to search for information about 304 stainless steel, simply enter 304 into the appropriate field asshown below. The search engine displays database entries such as Grade TP304N, Type 304H, and Type304. Notice that the search will find any data containing 304, even if there is other text before and/or after304, rather than a search that only finds 304 exactly.

There are two wildcards: ? and *. The question mark (?) is a single character wildcard, while the asterisk (*)is a multiple character wildcard.

Examples of Single Character Wildcard (?): to find data of 4140 and 4340 alloy steels, simply enter 4?40into the appropriate field (see below), or to find data of all 41xx alloy steels, enter 41?? which will displayresults of 4118, 4120, 4130, etc.

Example of Multiple Character Wildcard (*): to find data of all UNS S304xx steels, enter S304* into theappropriate field, which will display results of S30400, S30403, S30409, etc.

- Nominal, Minimum, Maximum, Range, or Wildcard Compositions

Example: The following example illustrates the use of nominal (Mo 2.5), minimum (Cr 16 min),maximum (C 0.03 max), range (Ni 10-15), and wildcard (N *) where the asterisk wildcard represents anyspecified composition.

Search by:- Nominal, Minimum, Maximum, Range, or Wildcard Properties

Example: The following example illustrates the use of minimum (yield strength 215 MPa and 15%elongation), maximum (20˚ C max), range (tensile strength 400-720 MPa), and wildcard (* J) where theasterisk wildcard represents any specified composition.
