Passive voice in SpanishPassive voice is always made with the

same pattern.Ser + past participleIf you look at the examples, ser is the first

part of the passive voice structure followed by a past participle in English.

Page 7: Past Passive Voice

The past participle will be important in future lessons covering the perfect tenses. To form the past participle, simply drop the infinitive ending (-ar, -er, -ir) and add -ado (for -ar verbs) or -ido (for -er, -ir verbs).

Pintar _ pintado Actuar – actuado Esculpir- esculpido Leer- leído The following common verbs have irregular past participles: Abrir –abierto escribir-escrito Cubrir- cubierto hacer-hecho Decir-dicho poner- puesto Ver-visto componer- compuesto

Past passive voice

The pattern is the same as present passive voice.

Ser + past participleThe only difference is instead of

conjugating ser in the present tense, it is now in the preterite tense.

Ser (preterite tense) + past participle
