Regular verbs are not on the list. These verbs follow certain rules to form the past.
They add “ed” to the verb to form the past.
ex. Listen (present) – listened (past)look (present) – looked (past)
These are the rules you have to take into account:
1. If the verbs ends in “-y” and has a vowel before it, you have to change the “-y” by “-i” and then add “ed”
ex. Study - studied try – tried
2. If the verb ends in “-y” but before it has a vowel, you add “ed” without changing anything
ex. Play - played
If the verb ends in “-e” you only add “-d”
ex. Move - moved
Sometimes you have to double the last letter (double the consonant when you have a consonant after a short stressed vowel at the end of the word)
ex. Stop – stopped plan - planned
AffirmativeI looked
You studiedHe cried
She stoppedIt moved
We clappedYou listened
