President
When: Wednesday February 8, 2012
Where: Family History Center, Vineyard Haven, MA
Who: President Marna Waller will talk on the history of Early Quakers in New England.
What: Ms. Waller will speak on the mystery of her own Quaker ancestor Rebecca Briggs Cornel, who was supposedly murdered by her son Thomas in Portsmouth, Rhode Island in 1673. The sensational event spawned rumors of domestic abuse and even witchcraft and Thomas Cornell was hanged soon after. A recent book, "Killed Strangely: The Death of Rebecca Cornell," by Fordham History Professor Elaine Forman Crane, raises some doubts however about the actual circumstances.
