California Standards•8.0 Student organized and describe distribution of
data by using of different methods, including frequency table, histogram, standard line and bar graphs, stem-and-leaf displays, scatter plots, and box of whisker plots.
•17.0 Students determine confidence interval for a simple random sample from a normal distribution of data and determine the sample size required for a desired margin of error.
•18.0 Student determine the P-value for a statistic for a simple random sample from a normal distribution
HypothesisWe believe that the average rate for
Century students who like pasta is 4.
Data CollectionThe sampling technique we used was
Stratified sampling. The 4 of us sampled 25 seniors, 25 juniors, 25 sophomores, and 25 freshmen during class and during 2nd lunch.

Error AnalysisOur sample mean is 3.65, and the 95%
confidence level for the population mean is between 3.5 to 3.8.
Our sample error is due to one of our group members being absent for one of the days we began surveying.
ConclusionWe hypothesized that the average rate for
Century students who like pasta is 4. In our survey of 100 students, we find the sample mean of 3.65 with a standard deviation of 0.72. We conclude that the population mean for all the students we surveyed is between 3.5 to 3.8 with 95% confidence. We test our initial hypothesis with 5% level of significance, and confirm our hypothesis is incorrect.
