Wesley United Methodist Church Pastoral Prophesies from Joel: A Poem by: Joanna Fuchs Christmas isn't showy giſts Or gliering decoraon; It's honoring our Savior, Jesus Christ In humble adoraon. It's serving those less fortunate, Meeng their needs before our own; It's making sure at Christmas me That no one is alone. It's taking what we would have spent On things that no one needs, And using it to help someone With service and good deeds. Our Savior showed us how to live With charity, faith and service. It makes the holidays a joy, More peaceful, and less nervous. So let's remember Christmas is About our Savior's birth; That's the way to happiness, The way to peace on earth. The above poem by Joanna Fuchs (professional writer and greeng-card verse/poem writer) beaufully captures, I believe, the tension in our world between the Christmas of Consumpon and Materialism, and the True Christmas which celebrates the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We live in a world now where, at least in this country, we have raised almost two generaons (almost 40 years!) of children who either have had no experience with the church, or who have had bad experiences with the church, which leads to those generaons not having any, or lile, knowledge about the true reason for the Christmas Season! It is my prayer that during this Advent and Christmas Season we, the people of Wesley UMC, will reach out to those people we encounter who do not yet know the Truereason for Christmas and Invite them to our church so that they too can begin to know the True Reason for the Season—Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Wesley United Methodist Church

Pastoral Prophesies from Joel:

A Poem by: Joanna Fuchs

Christmas isn't showy gifts Or glittering decoration;

It's honoring our Savior, Jesus Christ In humble adoration.

It's serving those less fortunate, Meeting their needs before our own;

It's making sure at Christmas time That no one is alone.

It's taking what we would have spent On things that no one needs, And using it to help someone With service and good deeds.

Our Savior showed us how to live With charity, faith and service.

It makes the holidays a joy, More peaceful, and less nervous.

So let's remember Christmas is About our Savior's birth;

That's the way to happiness, The way to peace on earth.

The above poem by Joanna Fuchs (professional writer and greeting-card verse/poem writer) beautifully captures, I believe, the tension in our world between the Christmas of Consumption and Materialism, and the True Christmas which celebrates the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We live in a world now where, at least in this country, we have raised almost two generations (almost 40 years!) of children who either have had no experience with the church, or who have had bad experiences with the church, which leads to those generations not having any, or little, knowledge about the true reason for the Christmas Season!

It is my prayer that during this Advent and Christmas Season we, the people of Wesley UMC, will reach out to those people we encounter who do not yet know the “True” reason for Christmas and Invite them to our church so that they too can begin to know the True Reason for the Season—Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!

Merry Christmas! Peace,

Joel

Wesley Church: Thank you for all the cards, prayers and treats. Continue to keep Cindy in your prayers. - Dan Motszko

To my Wesley Family: We greatly appreciate the many prayers and the support that you have given us in these past

months with my out-patient surgery the end of July and recently my daughter's hospitalization in Florida. Knowing that

your extended family (Wesley) is giving support is uplifting and comforting. A daily reminder of this support is the gift of

the fabric covered Kleenex box from the Nurture and Outreach Committee at my bedside which says "From your friends at

Wesley". Thank you for being a caring Christian community! - Linda Duffy

From Joan Binning: Thank you for the beautiful quilt and knitted slippers! I have been excited to show everyone the things

my Wesley friends have given me. It was so nice of some of the ladies from Wesley to make a trip to see me and deliver

these gifts. It means so much. Thank you for all your continued cards and encouragement. My current address now is:

Pine Ridge #202, 1110 N. Division St., Colby, WI 54421.

Thank You: to all who helped prep the Fellowship Hall for carpet cleaning! And thank you for helping put it back together.

Blessings on the hands & hearts that make Wesley such a sweet place to share in life, service, & worship together.

Thank You: We visited Dan & Cindy Motszko this past month, and delivered your many gifts of cookies, muffins, lasagna,

chili, and lots of other goodies! Thanks so much to all who prepared food and sent it along. We will be visiting again in

December, and will let you know the date. We think the food gifts are very helpful – they were very much appreciated.

- Karalee & Jackie

A Special Thanks: to the ladies assisting with the luncheon for Carolyn Brandl the end of October: Leslie Plechaty, Penny

Mahringer, Jeanne Gray, Jackie Zoellner, Romelle Bymers, and Linda Duffy. The family sent a lovely thank you which is

Sabbath Café: Thank you to Wadad & Richard, Gene & Cindy Larson, Ardis Anderson, Linda Duffy, and Wesley Church

Members for donating and participating in our Sabbath Café hour during the month of November.

Prayer

December Noisy Can Mission of the Month

The Salvation Army exists, “to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”

Tirelessly working every day within our community and around the United States, the Salvation Army works to alleviate many of the needs people have during times of struggle. Also well known for their “red kettles” and “bell ringing” during the Christmas season—the Salvation Army seeks to remember the “forgotten” during the Christmas season, blessing all they can with gifts of love and necessity during the holidays.

Since their beginning in 1865, the Salvation Army has helped tens of millions of people in need. They also provide programs of assistance to the disabled, elderly, ill, and under-privileged children. All monies collected and received by the Salvation Army are carefully used to meet needs with discretion and wisdom.

All funds we collect here at Wesley this month will stay right here in our Marshfield community to help those with needs who live amongst us.

Women of Wesley

Younker's Community Day Sale Report: We did well with selling the Younker's Coupon booklets and sold 50. The entire amount is kept by Wesley, meaning that $250.00 was placed in the church offering. We also will be receiving an additional check from Youn-ker's that will probably be over $100 as a reward for being one of the top-selling Marshfield organization groups. Thank you Wesley shoppers - hope you were able to find some good bargains during that sales event!

Wesley Care Quilters:

Wesley’s Quilting group will resume meeting again in January (date to be announced). Thanks to the leadership of Master Quilter Romelle Bymers, this busy group has created several masterpieces in the last few months that have been shared with Wesley members. We hope to continue our mission of sharing warmth and hugs in the New Year! Any quilters or wanna-be’s are welcome to join. There are jobs for all skill levels. We will keep you posted!

Cookie Walk 2015

Dan & Cindy Motszko have been an important part of our Wesley family since the early 1980's.

They recently relocated and will be missed in our Wesley family. A special quilt was made for them by their Wesley friends. Each cream-colored quilt square in the right photo features a hand-written memory, thank you, or message to Dan & Cindy. The quilt was presented to them in October of this year.

Dan & Cindy have been a vital part of every of ministry within Wesley over the years. They’ve left a big hole to fill. Cindy was active in Sunday School and in all of our music ministries, from Tone Chimes to Choir. Both Cindy and Dan were supportive in Wesley’s committee work and key in leading worship. Their smiles and enthusiasm were contagious. We are grateful for them—not only what they have done, but for who they are as individuals.

The prayers, and love of your Wesley family continues to go with you, Dan and Cindy!
