Like the Dewfall By Father Ethan
There is something about a crisp summer morning
as the birds salute the sun with their hymns of joy.
Creation rings with glory as the flowers open their
petals, and life bustles with newness. In C.S. Lewis’
classic work the Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan the
majestic lion who is the Christ figure in the series, he
alone is present at the beginning of the world. Aslan
begins to sing a profound melody and suddenly out of
darkness comes movement and light, soon forms are
made and the land and sky are established. The noble
lion sways to and fro much like a conductor leading his
orchestra as order overcomes chaos. Life happens by
his breathe.
The beauty of nature is powerful and certainly a
place to recognize the goodness of God, but from it He
leads us to more.
Acknowledging the
Creator isn’t quite
enough, we need to
give Him our worship.
It is in worship where
we truly identify the
meaning of what we see and what we experience.
Everything is gift and when we praise the Giver we in
turn are free to be the gift we were created to be.

From the Pastor’s Desk
My dear friends,
Welcome to the Region XII combined bulletin! As we
grow together as a region, many aspects of being
Church can and should be shared. While each parish
maintains its own unique personality and style of
worship, we can and should take advantage of the
sharing of our resources for administration, education
and ministry. We can only share those resources when
we are aware of what is being offered at each of our
campuses. So we are now sharing all our information
with each other – both on our website and in our
bulletin. The deadline remains the same, but for some,
the person and address has changed. Laura Joliat is the
region bulletin editor and her address is
[email protected]. She can be reached by
phone at 233-1503, extension 102. Please take the
time to read the whole bulletin and see just how much
we have to offer! – Father Tony
SEPTEMBER 4, 2016 TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

This Sunday, Pope Francis will declare Mother Teresa of Calcutta a saint in
the Catholic Church. She became a sister at the age of 18 and taught at a
girl’s high school in Calcutta, but later began working with the poor. She
began the Missionaries of Charity and opened hospices, orphanages and
leper houses to care for the sick and dying, the homeless and forgotten.
Mother Teresa said, “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do
small things with great love” and “There is more hunger for love and
appreciation in this world than for bread.” In what ways this week can you
show love and appreciation at home, at school, in your neighborhood? In
what small ways can you make your part of the world a little better?
FAITH IN ACTION
Outreach and Justice Commission Living in the Year of Mercy when it’s an Election Year! Jesus calls us to be
merciful 24-7, but does that really include an election year? Find out how
Catholics can be civil and engaged during this election year. Attend the
Civilize It: Faithful Citizenship in the Year of Mercy presentation at St.
Francis of Assisi in Centerville on Wednesday, September 7, from 7:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information, please call 224-3026.
Adult Faith Formation This week is your LAST CHANCE for the summer session to hear Jeff
Cavins. He will be presenting to us via DVD on Wednesday, September 7,
at 10:00 a.m. or Thursday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ries Center.
Sessions last 75 minutes and there is no cost or registration. This week’s
topics include the following: Why was Israel exiled to Assyria? What can
we learn today about the importance of forgiveness from the story of the
Exodus? What happened to the Israelites when they were living in exile?
What symbolism is in the story of Daniel in the lion’s den? Have you ever
heard anyone condemn the Catholic Church because it holds itself up to be
true? Tolerance in America has degenerated into condemnation of any
religion that does not give others equal weight. How do you handle charges
of intolerance? You can prepare yourself for this week’s session by reading
from the Second Book of Kings Chapters 17-18 and 24-25. Any questions?
Please call Joe Hand at 329-0912.
Secular Discalced Carmelite Formation For a soul who feels called to Carmel, it is the desire for
Divine intimacy that is predominant. If you have this desire
in you, please come visit with the Carmelite Community on
Sunday, September 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the
Family Life Center. We have a special visitor’s class that
will acquaint you with our community of Our Mother of
Good Counsel, OCDS. For more information, please visit
the website www.daytoncarmelites.org.
— Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time — Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them,
“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and
children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my
disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot
be my disciple.” – Luke 14:25-27

— Anyway —
People are often unreasonable,
illogical, and self-centered.
FORGIVE THEM ANYWAY.
If you are kind, people may accuse you
of selfish ulterior motives.
BE KIND ANYWAY.
If you are successful, you will win some
false friends and some true enemies.
SUCCEED ANYWAY.
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you.
BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
BUILD ANYWAY.
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous.
BE HAPPY ANYWAY.
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow.
DO GOOD ANYWAY.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
GIVE THE BEST YOU’VE GOT ANYWAY.
You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God;
it was never between you and them anyway.

Learn Your Liturgical Lingo Tabernacle: Biblically speaking,
tabernacle refers to the movable tent that
the ancient Israelites used as the center of
their lives and their worship. Whenever
they would set up their camps, the
tabernacle would be placed in the center
of their camp. The word originally meant
“dwelling place”. For the Israelites, that
specifically referred to the dwelling place
of God the Most High among His people. The tabernacle was
holy place. For Catholics, the tabernacle still refers to a holy
place, the dwelling place of God. In particular, we recognize that
the true presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist is reserved
