But Mathew, the evangelist, writes that the gentiles are also included in Gods plan of salvation or wholeness. God does not exclude anyone. The gentiles too are fellow heirs, members of the same body. C reation is an Epiphany – the manifestation - of God available to all humans. Mystics believe that the Divine essence is poured into every creature. Teilhard de Chardin saw creation as the Divine milieu. An Epiphany is a sudden realization of this reality. Sometimes all we need to do is just stop and look. At other times it needs much preparation. A ny Epiphany or manifestation of Jesus and the gospel values meditated through the followers of Christ will have to face opposition today and even violent attacks from the Herods of today. Such Herods include religious fundamentalists, governments, political powers and self-appointed protectors of traditions and cultures. But the star of the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and lead us not only to seek but also to find Jesus through a deeper experience of him. T he feast of the Epiphany challenges us to recognize and take upon ourselves God s universal vision. I would like to inform all the parishioners that I will be away for a home visit from the 6th of January to the 12th of February 2020. Kindly keep me in your prayers. I assure you all of my prayers. T oday we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany – the manifestation of God’s universal hunger and love for all people, regardless of nation, race or place. Today, therefore, we

celebrate the manifestation of Jesus as God and King, to all people and nations. Though born in a manger, visited only by poor shepherds, he is recognized, accepted, and worshiped as King and Lord by the wise men from the East. The wise men from the East hungered for God and their hunger drove them on a long and tedious journey.

T he Jewish-Christians thought that Jesus Christ was sent by God exclusively for them. But Mathew, the evangelist, writes that the gentiles are also included in God’s plan of

salvation or wholeness. God does not exclude anyone. The gentiles too are “fellow heirs, members of the same body.

C reation is an Epiphany – the manifestation - of God available to all humans. Mystics believe that the Divine essence is poured into every creature. Teilhard de Chardin saw

creation as the Divine milieu. An Epiphany is a sudden realization of this reality. Sometimes all we need to do is just stop and look. At other times it needs much preparation.

A ny Epiphany or manifestation of Jesus and the gospel values meditated through the followers of Christ will have to face opposition today and even violent attacks from the

Herods of today. Such Herods include religious fundamentalists, governments, political powers and self-appointed protectors of traditions and cultures. But the star of the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and lead us not only to seek but also to find Jesus through a deeper experience of him.

T he feast of the Epiphany challenges us to recognize and take upon ourselves God’s universal vision.

I would like to inform all the parishioners that I will be away for a home visit from the 6th of

January to the 12th of February 2020. Kindly keep me in your prayers. I assure you all of my

prayers. During my absence, Fr. Jaison will be here with us. On behalf of the Labrador West

Parish Communities, I extend a warm welcome to Fr. Jaison and wish him a joyful stay and

ministry.

Happy New Year to each and everyone! Wishing you all a happy and

prosperous 2020!

Thank you to all the parishioners who helped

decorate and make our Basilica beautiful for

Christmas. Now that Christmas celebrations

are over, we need to get the Christmas

decorations put away for another year. If you

have some time to help with this project on

Monday morning, January 6th at 9 am,

please come by the church.

Many hands will make light work!

For the upcoming months, the Tuesday

evening Mass, presently being celebrated in

Wabush, will now be celebrated at the

Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual help at

Labrador City.

To all those who haven’t picked up their 2020 Collec-tion envelopes, you can get them at the porch of the church. Please note that new numbers have been re-assigned to some people. As always thank you so much for your generosity.

“As Jesus opened the door to invite chil-

dren in to join the celebration, we invite

you to come to Mass!”

Did you know that every Sunday the

Basilica’s Children ‘s Mini Liturgy Pro-

gram teaches valuable lessons and

skills such as: helping, caring, sharing, loving and

thanking others? This faith-centered program is part

of the regular Sunday Mass. Preschoolers and children

are invited to go downstairs to one of several age-

divided classes to listen to the day’s Bible story and

then discuss how it relates to their every day life.

Children’s Liturgy will restart after the school Christ-

mas break. Your family is always welcome!

Are you or someone you know, planning to be married

in the Catholic Church within the next year? If so,

please note that Marriage Preparation is required for

couples who wish to be married in the church and is

only offered once per year in our parishes. Marriage

Preparation will be taking place in February or March.

It is very important to contact the parish office 944-

2289 during office hours to register.

Baptism Preparation is required for parents and at

least one Catholic godparent. Please call the parish

office during working hours to register. Sessions are

offered approximately once per month from Septem-

ber to June. Next Sessions in 2020 will be on Janu-

ary 5, February 2 and March 8.

First Holy Communion is a two year program for chil-

dren in Grade 1 or older. Confirmation is a two year

program for youth in grade 7 or older. Registration for

these programs starts in September with classes starting

in October to June. You can register by calling the parish

office at 944-2289.

Extending deep and heartfelt sympathy to:

the Family of Caroline Gillingham and

Kevin Collier on the passing of his son, Bryan Collier

Our deepest condolences, our thoughts and prayers

are with you during this time of sorrow.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but

love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

On January 11, the parish of Our Lady of the

Assumption will be celebrating the 40th

Anniversary of the opening of the 2nd level of our

present church. The Anniversary Mass will be at

7:00pm, followed by a parish social afterwards.

Please join us in this celebration.

Our Lady of the Asumption parish would like to

thank the Knights of Columbus Wabush , for their

recent donation of $500.00 to the parish. Thank

you to the Catholic Women’s League Wabush for

their donation of $1000.00 to the parish. We are so

fortunate to have the continued support of both

organizations.

On the Feast of the Epiphany, which the Church

celebrates today, we commemorate the visitation of

the Magi to the Baby Jesus. These men travelled a

great distance guided only by a star and brought

with them gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to

honour Jesus. This is a good time to think about our

own journey of faith. How are we called to grow

closer to Christ? What gifts do we have that we can

bring to the Lord today to share with him?

Remember, the best gifts come from the heart!

The following organizations/groups would be happy

and thrilled to have more members join them.
