To form the present progressive, you use the appropriate form of estar + the present participle (-ando or –iendo, depending on the verb).

To form the present participle of –ir stem-changing verbs, the e in the stem of the infinitive changes to i, and the o in the stem changes to u.

To form the present participle of the following –er verbs, add –yendo instead of –iendo.

When using a direct object pronoun with a present progressive, the pronoun can either come before estar or attached to the present participle. If you attach it to the participle, you must add an accent mark.

Nosotros lo estamos esperando.

Nosotros estamos esperándolo.
