The amount of loan forgiveness can be up to the full principal amount of the loan and any accrued interest. The actual amount of loan forgiveness will depend, in part, on the total amount of your eligible costs (as discussed in question 5 below) during the covered period (as discussed in question 6 below). The amount of forgiveness will also depend on whether your number of employees or their salaries or wages were reduced during the covered period, unless you meet certain criteria with respect to such reductions. 1 Can my PPP loan be forgiven in whole or in part? Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) PPP Loan Forgiveness Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) as of June 26th, 2020. No. You must request loan forgiveness. If you have received a PPP loan through Popular you must request loan forgiveness through Popular (as discussed in question 9 below). 2 Is loan forgiveness automatic? Yes, you must pay the unforgiven amount and the accrued interest during the remaining term of your loan after the end of the payment deferment period described below. If SBA assigned your loan number before June 5, 2020, the term of your loan is 2 years from the date of disbursement. If SBA assigned your loan number from June 5, 2020 onward, the term of your loan is 5 years from the date of disbursement. The date of disbursement of your loan is the date when loan funds were deposited into your Popular checking account. You can see your loan disbursement date on your checking account statement and your transaction history. If your covered period is 24 weeks (as discussed in question 6 below), then payment of principal and interest on your loan is deferred for 16 months after the date of disbursement or, if you apply for forgiveness during such period, until the SBA approves or denies forgiveness of the loan. If your covered period is 8 weeks (as discussed in question 6 below), then payment of principal and interest on your loan is deferred for 12 months after the date of disbursement or, if you apply for forgiveness during such period, until the SBA approves or denies forgiveness of the loan. However, if the date of disbursement of your loan occurred before June 5, 2020 and you elected to maintain an eight-week covered period, then your covered period will be the eight consecutive week (56 days) period following the date of disbursement of your loan. In any event, no applicable covered period will extend beyond December 31, 2020. You should also consider the alternative payroll period offered under the program. We have 60 days from receipt of your complete request application to issue the forgiveness decision to SBA. In turn, SBA has 90 days to review the issued forgiveness decision. After SBA finalizes its review of our forgiveness decision, we will notify you of the loan forgiveness amount (or that SBA determined that no amount of the loan is eligible for forgiveness). 11 When will I know if my loan forgiveness request was approved?
