w h o w e a r e The Pre-Business Students’ Network (PBSN) is an undergraduate social, philanthropic, and academic club for students who wish to pursue a business degree at Western University. We are a student-run club that aims to introduce members to the world of business, prepare them for the demands of their respective business programs and provide them with networking opportunities. Throughout the year, the organization hosts a variety of social and academics events and competitions that provide students with social, professional and educational experience that is second to none. Formerly known as the Advanced Entry Opportunity Students’ Association (AEOSA), the PBSN has expanded its scope to include all students who wish to pursue a degree in business. This can either be a major in economics (BA), actuarial science (BSc), business management and organizational studies (BMOS) or an honours business administration degree (HBA) at the Richard Ivey School of Business. Our club includes some of the most driven and committed Canadian and international university students aiming to become tomorrow’s business elites. Our alumni network spans across the club in a diverse range of professions including banking, consulting, accounting, marketing and entrepreneurship. In catering to over 1200 Western business students every year, the PBSN is one of the largest and most successful clubs on campus. This year we are expanding our scope, solidifying our efforts and building on our previous successes. Your potential partnership efforts will be pivotal in subsidizing our costs so that we may pursue more initiatives that engage students on campus and across Ontario.

The Academics portfolio is responsible for educating and strengthening the skills and interests of the organization’s members. The portfolio organizes review sessions, competitions, speaker series as well as trips to conferences throughout the year. The Academics portfolio will be providing a strong foundation for Western students to hone their skills, develop their interests and successfully compete against each other and other students across Ontario.

portfolio description

Overview of initiativesIntroduction To Business Speaker SeriesThis speaker series aims to give students an introduction to the many facets of the business world. By having a better understanding of what people in banks, consulting firms, retail firms, and other types of companies do, the students can better understand what best suits them and what they might be interested in pursuing.

Annual Fall & Winter Case Competition (one per semester)Teams of students are presented with a case that describes a real life problem. They will work together to determine the best action plan, and are judged based on feasibility, understanding of concepts, and overall presentation.

Entrepreneurial Jump Start ChallengeTeams of students are given a certain amount of money at the start of the competition period (between one-two weeks). With this money they will create a small business in the University or local area and attempt to get the highest revenues.

Overview of initiatives

The Student Affairs portfolio is responsible for ensuring social engagement of the organization’s members. The portfolio organizes numerous events to allow students to connect in a light-hearted, non-competitive environment with each other, faculty and partners. Student Affairs plans to build on its previous successful events including the gingerbread competition and mentorship program by incorporating athletics and corporate social responsibility within its events. The efforts of the Student Affairs portfolio will bring students, faculty and company partners closer together by building lasting relationships through its wide array of events.

Gingerbread Competition The Gingerbread competition is a major winter social event that brings members together to compete in an epic architectural challenge to produce the biggest and greatest gingerbread house. This gives students a light-hearted break from winter exams.

Dodge for Darfur The PBSN is proud to host the annual Dodge for Darfur dodgeball tournament. The funds from the event aid the people of the war-torn Darfur by providing them proper living equipment and conditions.

Mentorship Program The mentorship program brings students from 2nd-4th year to mentor incoming business students. Mentees participate in social events in groups and are able to get critical, personalized advice from their available mentors.

Year-End Gala & Awards Ceremony The most pivotal event of the organization, the PBSN Year-End Gala brings members, mentors, faculty and partners together to celebrate the achievements of the organization. The gala features an awards ceremony where members of PBSN are recognized for their competitive, academic and other extra-curricular achievements within the organization.

portfolio description

Overview of initiatives

The Projects portfolio is an entirely new initiative that aims to offer students the opportunity to get real-world work and internship experience while they are still studying at university. The Projects portfolio is so unique that there is no similar offering in other business societies across Canada. The portfolio will be offering its core program along with workshops in conjunction with the Media and Technology portfolios, as well as a distinctive entrepreneurial speaker series to help ambitious entrepreneurs get the best advice from some of the most successful Canadian startups.

Entrepreneurial Speaker Series The Entrepreneurial Speaker Series invites Canadian entrepreneurs and company delegates to speak about the challenges and successes in their respective industries as well as provide advice to budding entrepreneurs on things they can do to succeed.

Projects Program The core of the program is to offer businesses in London the opportunity to get essential or experimental projects to be completed by Western students at zero to minimum wage cost. London businesses get the opportunity to experiment on new initiatives or complete core necessities, while students get the necessary work experience they need to hone their skills and expand their interests.

The Pre-Business Students’ Network is a recently established organization that aims to cater to the needs of all of Western’s business students. It does this by providing an ample amount of workshops, competitions, socials, networking sessions and speaker events. Many of these items were not explicitly mentioned within the sponsorship package based on their scope. Furthermore, sponsorships are often limited based on the scope of their involvement. As such, the PBSN is now offering the opportunity to sponsor the entirety of the organizations activities. Bundled with the year-round sponsorship are some of the aforementioned opportunities, including the inclusion of branding within a majority of our communications. At PBSN, we believe that we are pushing the boundaries of the opportunities that we are providing for students. With your help, we will establish a new frontier.
