1 PC Components of a PCS 7 System
Introduction
This chapter provides you with a general overview of the PC components that youcan use with PCS 7 (Version 5.2), the areas of application of these components,and the hardware and software components used.
SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Control System
• The modern concept and architecture of SIMATIC PCS 7 allow cost-effectiveimplementation of a plant during all its life cycles from planning, engineering,training, and commissioning followed by operation and maintenance andincluding future expansion and economic operation of the plant.
• SIMATIC PCS 7 as the process control system of Totally IntegratedAutomation ® provides triple integration of data management, communication,and configuration.
• By adhering consistently to international industrial standards for data exchangewith the enterprise management level such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, OPC,@aGlance or SAP R3/PP-PI, the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system canbe fully integrated into the company-wide information networks.

1.1 PC Components of a PCS 7 System
PCs are used in the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system as follows:
• For configuring and commissioning process control systems with theengineering system:
- PLC engineering
- OS engineering
• For monitoring and controlling the processes from operator stations:
- OS single workstation system
- OS server
- OS multiclient/client
• For configuring, monitoring, and controlling batch processes with BATCHflexible:
- BATCH flexible server
- BATCH flexible client

PCS 7 Software
The PCS 7 software includes the following software package:
• For engineering (see Chapter 2).
• For operator control and monitoring of the automation process including thenecessary evaluation options (see Chapter 3).
• For operator control and monitoring of batch processes including the requiredevaluation options (see Chapter 4).
These chapters also refer to optional packages (for example for redundancy, fail-safe systems) with which special solutions can be implemented.
Appendix A lists the individual software packages along with the licenses andauthorizations required to use them.

Operating System
Depending on the particular application (standalone PC, server or client) thesuitable operating system is used (refer to Appendix A).
Hardware
You will find recommendations regarding the PCs used in PCS 7 in Section 1.3.1and in the PCS 7 process control system; catalog ST PCS 7.
Networks
In PCS 7 systems, communication with PCs is over networks. These networks areused for communication between the following devices:
• PC to PC
• PC to automation system (PLC)
You can use the following bus systems for data exchange in PCS 7:
• Industrial Ethernet - generally handles all the communication tasks listedabove.
• PROFIBUS can be used in small systems as the plant bus.
For more detailed information on the networks, refer to Chapter 5.
Communication modules for PCs
In the PCS 7 - Released Modules documentation, you will find the latestinformation on the communication modules used in PCS 7.
Note
The use of PROFIBUS as the plant bus for new systems cannot be recommended(the data throughput is too low).
Downloading the PLC Configuration
The MPI is required for the first download of the PLC configuration to the PLC (itcan also be used to download the user program).
Configurator Software
On the Interactive Catalog CA01; Automation and Drives CD, you will findconfigurator software that you may find useful when putting together your PCS 7system.
Ordering Information
The process control system PCS 7; catalog ST PCS 7 catalog contains theordering data of tested PC configurations and software components. The availablecomponents may represent the optimum basis for all applications in your system(fully installed solutions).

1.2 Number of Workstations
When deciding how many workstations you require, you should take into accountthe following factors:
• The number of programmable controllers
• The degree of automation
• The distribution of the workstations
• The requirements of the system (for example possibility of local operation of aunit)
• The required degree of operator-friendliness
- information displayed simultaneously
- system overview, message lists, logs
• The required availability (for example implementation of redundant systems)

1.3.1 Hardware Requirements
If you want to specify the configuration of a PC for PCS 7 yourself, you can baseyour selections on the Process Control System PCS 7; Catalog ST PCS 7.
The requirements that must be met by the hardware for a PC are listed in thefollowing table.

MPI CP 5611 (PCI) MPI - you require a PC (PG or engineering station) with anMPI card to download the PLC configuration to the PLC the first time (todownload the user program, you should then change the access path tothe PLC to Industrial Ethernet).

1.3.2 Installing the Software
The operating system should always be installed by suitably qualified persons (thisapplies in particular to the installation of servers and networks).
If you need to install non-PCS 7 products, please follow the instructions in therelevant installation manuals.
Caution!
Only the software products listed in the manual should be installed on a PCS 7PC. This applies in particular to the run-time PC (OS, BATCH flexible).
Installing programs that have not been approved by Siemens departments andrunning these programs at the same time can have a negative influence on thePCS 7 system response.
The user is solely responsible for such influences.
If you nevertheless require non-PCS 7 products, these should be installed beforeyou install PCS 7. In this case, make sure that PCS 7 and the "other" products arenot active at the same time.
Operating System and Licensing
You will find information on the operating system and the required licenses inAppendix A.
Requirements
Prior to installation of the PCS 7 software packages, you should complete the stepslisted below:
• The hardware components must already be installed in the PC.
• The network addresses of all PC components should be set already.
• With server installations, the server type can no longer be modified afterinstallation and must be selected prior to installation. You can use all servertypes:
- Server
- Proxy server
- Backup server
For information on the types, refer to the descriptions of the operating system.

Installation
1. To install the required operating system, follow the instructions in the setup(Appendix A operating system, service packs)
2. Install all the required drivers:
- For additional devices - internal and external (for example for memorymedia),
- For special graphics cards - if you want to use a multi VGA card - MatroxMulti VGA , use the driver supplied on the second PCS 7 CD (in the folder\Drivers\Display\Matrox Multi VGA ...).
3. Check that all the services and drivers are functioning correctly in the eventviewer of Windows NT (Start > Control Panel > Event Viewer).
4. Install the additional software as explained in the readme file of PCS 7 (forexample service packs, Internet Explorer).
5. Set up the network (see Section 5.1.1).
6. Set the size of the paging file (see Section 6.1).
7. Keep to the instructions for the utilities (see Section 6.2).
8. Check that all the services and drivers are functioning correctly in the eventviewer of Windows NT (Start > Control Panel > Event Viewer).
User Privileges
Only a user with administrator privileges can perform the installation.
Optimization
For server and client
1. In the Windows Explorer, select the following folder: \"System folder (default:winnt.400)"\system32\drivers\etc.
2. Enter the assignment between the PC components and the corresponding IPaddresses for all the PCs used in the network in the "Lmhosts" file.
Example:
In the same folder, you will find the "Lmhosts.sam" file. This file is a sampleillustrating the structure of the "Lmhosts" file.
Servers only
Follow the steps outlined below:
1. Click on the menu command Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network.
2. Select the "Services" tab.
3. Select the "Server" service.
4. Click on the "Properties" button.
5. Select the option "Maximize data throughput for network applications".

6. Close the dialog with "OK".
7. Click on the menu command Start > Settings > Control Panel > Licensing.
8. Activate the client licensing mode "Per Seat" in the “Client Access Licenses”option box.
9. Close the dialog with "OK".
Installing the PCS 7 Packages
Note
Please note the following:
• The information in the PCS 7 readme.wri file (CD1 of the software packagePCS 7 Toolset CD V5.2 - DR:\pcs7-readme.wri)
• The instructions in the setup.
• You must install the PCS 7 packages using a setup program.
• For the authorization, you have the following options:
- You can install the authorizations during installation (this option is availableduring setup) or
- you can install authorizations after installing PCS 7.
• For information on the versions, please refer to Appendix A.
• You will find more specific information on the PCS 7 PC components (forexample PCS 7 ES) in the subsequent chapters under Notes on Installation.
• Chapter 6 contains additional information on Windows settings and tools.

Subsequent Installation/Updating
If you already have components of the PCS 7-software installed on your computer,a dialog appears in which you can select the type of installation when you run thesetup program. In this dialog, you must decide which type of installation yourequire:
• Installation or
• Update
Installation
With an installation, you have the option of installing additional components.
Update
With an update, existing components are replaced by newer versions of the samecomponents. Please make sure that the new components of the new version areselected.
Authorizing the PCS 7 Packages
1. Insert the authorization diskette in the floppy disk drive of your PC.
2. To start the authorization program, click on the menu command: Start >Simatic > AuthorsW > AuthorsW.
3. Select the "Transfer Authorizations" tab.
4. In the drop-down combo box (for example on the left-hand side), select thedrive in which you inserted the authorization diskette and in the other drop-down combo box, select the drive to which you want to transfer theauthorizations (default drive C).
5. You can transfer the authorizations as follows:
Singly
- Select the authorizations you want to transfer
- Start the transfer with the � button (or � to transfer from the right-handdrive to the left-hand drive).
or
All
Start the transfer with the "All>" (or "<All" button to transfer from the right-handdrive to the left-hand drive).

Introduction
SIMATIC PCS 7 provides a comprehensive engineering system for configuringprocess control systems that allows projects to be worked on throughout a systemand plant. The engineering system can be used for the entire range of projectsfrom small systems to large manufacturing complexes.
The same tools are used to work with and manipulate the project database fromthe initial configuration of a plant through to the running of the plant. This meansthat the project data are created and maintained with identical tools during theentire life of a plant.
Open import/export mechanisms allow the PCS 7 ES to be integrated into anexisting infrastructure.

2.1.3 PCS 7 ES - Working on a Project Using Several PCs
A project can be edited by more than one user. At any one time, however, only oneuser is permitted per S7 program. If it is not acceptable to perform the engineeringtasks with only one PCS 7 ES, you can distribute the engineering work overseveral PCs. How to do this is described in Configuration Manual Process ControlSystem PCS 7; Engineering System . The following variants are possible:

Multi-User Mode
In the multi-user mode, several users work on the project on separate engineeringPCs. The individual engineers use their PC as a terminal in a network. The projectdata of all users are stored on one PC.
You should also read the information in the section "Notes on the Multi-user Modeand on Using Network Drives" in the readme file of the PCS 7 Toolset CD V5.2software package.
Configuring PCs for the Multi-User Mode
If you want to perform your engineering work in the multi-user mode, werecommend that you use a client-server configuration.
Clients
If individual users want to compile charts while other users continue to work on theproject, please note the following:
• To avoid loss of performance, it is not advisable for more than 3 or 4engineering clients to be connected to one engineering server.
• Make sure that the engineers coordinate the compilation of charts andarchiving of the projects with each other.

Installable Programs

Caution!
Install the PCS 7 Toolset on the server PC (you must at least install STEP 7).
• If neither the PCS 7 Toolset nor STEP 7 is installed on the server, the firstclient to log in to the project (for example Client 1) adopts the function of the(active) database server .
• If this client fails (for example due to a network failure or the client is turnedoff), no client that logged in after the failed client can access the project anylonger.
• In the worst case, the failure of the database server on the client can lead to aloss of data since the data required for reorganization (for example following apower outage) are no longer available to the server.
• The data for reorganization are kept only locally on the client on which thedatabase server is active.

You can install the PCS 7 ES software along with other PCS 7 software on one PC.
Note

2.2 Hardware of the PCS 7 ES
Basic Hardware
The basic hardware used with PCS 7 is listed in Section 1.3.1.
We recommend that you use the tested components (refer to Process ControlSystem PCS 7; Catalog ST PCS 7).
Optional Hardware Components
Work memory
The size of the work memory used on the engineering PCs is an essential factorgoverning the speed of the system.
MPI card
The first time you download the hardware configuration of a PLC, you must do thisover an MPI interface in PCS 7. For this download, a PC with an MPI card (PCS 7ES or PG) is connected to the PLC directly using an MPI cable. Downloading thehardware configuration is explained in the help on STEP 7 "Setting the PG/PCInterface" and in the Configuration Manual Process Control System PCS 7;Engineering System.
The MPI module used is the CP 5611.
After a successful download of the hardware configuration to the PLC, you shouldchange over the access path to the PLC to Industrial Ethernet. This allows you todownload the configured data to the PLC more quickly.
2.3 Software of the PCS 7 ES
The individual components of the PCS 7 ES are matched with each other.
The PCS 7 Toolset CD V5.2 software package contains the necessary software ontwo CDs.
The following software packages are installed on a PCS 7 ES:
• AS Engineering
• OS Engineering
In PCS 7, the AS Engineering and OS Engineering software packages form a unit.You can use the packages on separate systems.

Setting in Setup
To install PCS 7, simply follow the instructions in the PCS 7 Setup.
Select the "AS Engineering" and "OS Engineering" check boxes in the installationdialog for installing a PCS 7 ES using the PCS 7 Setup in the "PCS 7-Setup: packages" dialog box.

Introduction
SIMATIC PCS 7 provides a fully integrated system for operator control andmonitoring of process control systems. This meets all the requirements of amodern operator control and monitoring system. SIMATIC PCS 7 can be used forsystems ranging from small to extremely large.
The configuration is created on the engineering system (PCS 7 ES) and theprocess is controlled during run-time from the PCS 7 OS. The sections ofconfigured data relevant for control of the plant must be transferred from thePCS 7 ES to the PCS 7 OS.

3.1.1 OS Single Station System
OS single station systems are used for operator control and monitoring of smallerplants/plant sections. Permanent operability of a plant can be achieved by usingmore than one OS with the same configuration.
Area of Application
You can use the OS single station system for the following:
• Small plants
• Local operator stations
• Training systems
Recommendation
If you want more than three OS single station systems to access a PLC, it makesmore sense to use an OS server with three clients since with a client-serverconfiguration:
• only the server accesses the data of the PLC. The server distributes the dataof the PLC to the clients/multiclients.
• the load on the PLC and plant bus is reduced.

3.1.2 OS Server
Area of Application
You can use an OS server as follows:
• In all types of system.
• To supply up to 16 clients/multiclients with process data. Up to a total of 16monitors can be operated on these clients (for example 4 clients each with amaximum of 4 monitors).
• When you require a minimum load on the AS and require several operatorcontrol and monitoring stations.
• Permanent operability of a system can be achieved by using more than oneOS server with the same configuration or redundant OS servers.
Note
Only use an OS server as an operator control and monitoring station when you donot want to connect more than 3 clients. In this way, you can make sure that yourOS server operates with optimum efficiency.

3.1.3 Redundant OS Servers
Area of Application
You should always use redundant OS server pairs when the availability of theoperator control and monitoring system is essential.
Characteristics
• From the client perspective, a redundant OS server pair behaves just like oneOS server.
• In a project with a redundant OS server pair, the advantage is that if one of theOS servers fails, the process can continue to be operated and monitored usingthe redundant OS server without any interruption.

Setting Redundancy
• The installation of a component of a redundant OS server pair is just the sameas the installation for an OS server.
• To install a redundant OS server pair:
- Transfer the "SIK/SIMATIC WinCC Redundancy" authorization to the PCsthat will operate as a redundant server pair using the AuthorsWauthorization program.
- After creating a project, you must make the project-specific settings. Referto the online help on WinCC "Redundancy".
• The Redundancy optional package of WinCC ensures the data integrity of theoperator stations in PCS 7 following the failure of an OS.

Permanent Operability with Redundant OS Servers
You can implement permanent operability from multiclients by configuring differentpreferred servers. The failover to the redundant partner (server) is made:
• Immediately when an OS server is deactivated by the run-time user interface.
• Delayed for seconds (< 30 seconds, typically 15 seconds) if there is aninterruption on the terminal bus (TCP/IP timeout).
• Immediately when the OS server becomes invalid (for example triggered by thefailure of an OS server).
3.1.4 Client/Multiclient
Area of Application
You can use clients and multiclients as operator control and monitoring stations.The plant data must be provided by an OS server.
• A client can only communicate with an OS server.
• The multiclient is a client that can access the data of up to 6 OS servers at thesame time (for example plant sections within a project).
• You can achieve permanent operability by using redundant OS servers (seeredundant OS server).

You can use BATCH flexible to implement batch processes.

The BATCH flexible station (simply BATCH station from now on) is a PC or a PCnetwork on which the software for working with BATCH flexible is installed.
BATCH flexible Software
BATCH flexible is fully integrated in the PCS 7 system. It consists of the foursubpackages:
• The Recipe System is responsible for the graphic creation and managementof any number of recipes.
• Batch Control can process and visualize several batches runningsimultaneously.
• Batch Data Management collects, stores, logs, and exports batch data.
• Batch Scheduling schedules batches and production orders in the form oflists.

4.1.1 Functions of the BATCH Stations
Server
There can only ever be one BATCH server in a BATCH project.
The BATCH server receives the process variables via the OS components.
The process data are processed by the BATCH server.
The project data and the process data are kept on the BATCH server where theyare available to the BATCH clients.
Client
The BATCH client opens the server project over the network; in other words, itdoes not have its own BATCH project.
A BATCH client can communicate with only one BATCH server.
Data Exchange
The link between different BATCH stations and between BATCH stations and OSstations is over the terminal bus.

4.2 Hardware for the BATCH Station
You do not require any additional hardware since the entire program package isintegrated in the PCS 7 process control system. Keep in mind the configurationoptions.
The basic hardware used with BATCH flexible is listed in Section 1.3.1.
We recommend that you use the tested components (refer to Process ControlSystem PCS 7; Catalog ST PCS 7).

The database size depends on the amount of saved data and the size ofthe database log file.

Example: 100 recipes and 50 batches require approximately 10 Mbytes (2Mbytes for data and 8 Mbytes for the log file).
Multi VGACards
It is possible to use multi VGA cards (up to 4 monitors on one PC).
BATCH flexible is displayed only on the first monitor.
Printers You require a printer if you want to print out recipes or batch reports.
All graphics printers supported by Windows NT are suitable. The softwarewas tested with HP laser printers.
4.3 Software for the BATCH Station
The individual components of PCS 7 are matched to each other.
The PCS 7 Toolset CD V5.2 software package contains the necessary software ontwo CDs.
The software for BATCH flexible version 4.02 is on CD2/2 of the PCS 7 Toolset CDV5.2 software package in the folder Batch_...).
You will find further information on the program versions and on the operatingsystem in Appendix A.

4.4 Notes on Installing BATCH flexible
You will find information on installing BATCH flexible in the latest readme.wri filefor BATCH flexible.
Requirements
Note
BATCH flexible can process the process data only in conjunction with a suitableOS component (OS server, OS single workstation system or OS client - notmulticlient). To use BATCH flexible, you must have the software for a SIMATICPCS 7 OS version 5.x installed on the relevant OS stations.
• When configuring the PLC, you must also configure the AF interface block inthe CFC chart.
The AF interface blocks must be transferred to the programmable controller forprocess interfacing.
• The batch data management must be installed only on an OS server or on anOS client -- not on an OS multiclient.As of PCS 7 V5.0/SP2, mixed operation ofclient and multiclient has been released for the PCS 7 OS.
• You must make sure that the BATCH server on which the batch control andbatch data management will run can access the following software:
- WinCC V4.01 or higher
- WinCC Option Basic Process Control V4.01
• If you want to control the process from a server (using the server as anoperating station for BATCH flexible), the BATCH server should be assigned amaximum of one BATCH client.
• You should not connect more than four clients to one server.
Setting in Setup
When installing BATCH flexible, follow the instructions in the Setup program.
You will find the components and authorizations to be installed in Appendix A.
You require an authorization (single or copy license) to use each of the BATCHflexible components. A diskette with authorizations is supplied with the product.

Points to Note about the BATCH Client
Note the following special situations:
• If the PCS 7 OS on the multiclient is in the RUN mode when the BATCH clientapplications start up, the OS user of the relevant client will be adopted.
• If the PCS 7 OS on the multiclient is not in the RUN mode when the BATCHclient applications start up, the operating system user of the PC will beadopted.
• BATCH client applications operate with one BATCH server only and alwayswith the same OS server.
• If you install a BATCH client application on a multiclient, the OS server alwaysremains the same regardless of the active OS server of the OS installation.

5 PC Components in the Network
This chapter provides you with an overview of the networks with PC componentsused in PCS 7.
The type of network used depends on the following factors:
• The number of connected PCs
• The span of the planned network
• The required transmission rate for the data
The design of the network depends on other factors such as:
• Availability (redundancy)
• Expandability (maximum number of bus nodes)
• Immunity to noise (cable shielding, problems resulting from magnetic andelectrical fields)
By selecting suitable components you can influence operation and performance:
• Break networks down into smaller subnets (gateways, bridges, switches)
• Reduce or eliminate the effects of interference caused by magnetic and electricfields (fiber-optic components)
• Establish communication with distant stations (modem, router)
• Simplify commissioning and service in the LAN
Planning and Design Notes
In PCS 7, Industrial Ethernet is recommended as the network type forcommunication with PC components and between PC components.
If you want to exchange data with non-PCS 7 networks, note the following points:
• Design and structure the network for the PCS 7 components so that no noisecan affect the PCS 7 network.
• To interconnect (and isolate) the networks use suitably configured switches,routers or gateways.

Terminal Bus
In PCS 7, the terminal bus is used for the following:
• To download to the operator stations (OS) from the engineering station (ES).
• To transfer the data processed on the OS servers to the terminals.
• To provide communication between the OS stations and BATCH stations.
• To communicate with @PCS 7 components.
Industrial Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) is used as the terminal bus.

Plant Bus
In PCS 7, the plant bus is used for the following:
• For communication between the PLCs
• For communication between PLC and OS
• For downloading to the PLC
In PCS 7, Industrial Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) is used for the plant bus.
MPI Bus
The MPI is required for the first download of the PLC configuration to the PLC (itcan also be used to download the user program).
5.1.1 Terminal Bus - TCP/IP Configuration
The following section describes the configuration of the PC for the TCP/IPconfiguration.
Caution!
The service pack belonging to the operating system must be reinstalled afterinstalling new hardware and after modifying network settings.
Network Installation
To be able to operate your PC on a network, you must install a network on yourPC. Follow the steps outlined below:
1. Open the Control Panel of your PC Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click on "Network".
If no network has been installed up to now, you will be asked if you want toinstall it. Confirm with "Yes".
The network setup wizard is started.

3. Put a check mark in the "Wired to the network" check box and click on "Next".
4. In the next dialog, select the network adapter installed in your PC.
5. Click on "Select from list..." and then on "Diskette...".
6. Insert the data medium (for example a floppy disk or CD) containing the driverfor the network adapter in a drive.
7. Set the correct drive and click on OK.

8. If drivers are found, you can select the network adapter in the dialog.
Otherwise, you must first make the drivers available.

9. Select the network adapter and confirm with "Next".

13. Enter the correct path for the I386 folder (usually on the Windows NT SetupCD). Confirm with "Continue".

14. In the next dialog, you make the TCP/IP settings for the network adapter. ADHCP server is a PC within a network that assigns IP addresses for other PCswithin a range of numbers.
Confirm the dialog:
- With "Yes" if you want your PC to attempt to obtain an IP address from aDHCP server at system startup to allow it to communicate with other PCs.
- With "No" if you want to specify the IP address yourself (see Point 16).
15. In the dialog box that appears, confirm that the network can be started with"Next".
Your system now requires information about whether the PC will beparticipating in a workgroup or a domain.
If the PC will be a member of a domain, you will need to create a computeraccount in this domain. To obtain an account, contact your networkadministrator.

16. If you selected "No" in the DHCP server dialog, the "Microsoft TCP/IPProperties" dialog opens.
- Select the "IP Address" tab.
- Set the correct "IP address" including the "subnet mask" otherwise your PCcannot be reached by other PCs and vice versa.
- You only need to make settings in the other tabs if there are DNS or WINSservers in the network. For more information, ask your networkadministrator.

17. Exit the dialog using the "OK" button. Confirm the message that the PC needsto be restarted.

6.1 Windows Settings
6.1.1 Setting the Size of the Paging File
Introduction
The paging file (virtual work memory) is a special file on the hard disk of a PC.When you run a program, parts of the program code and other information areloaded into work memory. If there is not enough memory for this data, part of thedata is temporarily written to the paging file. Depending on the memoryconfiguration, Windows NT requires additional free space on the hard disk(typically disk C:).

Setting the Size of the Paging File
1. Click on the Start > Settings > Control Panel menu command.
2. Double-click on "System".
3. Select the "Performance" tab in the "System Properties" dialog box.
4. Select the "Change" button in the "Virtual Memory" box.
5. Select the drive with the paging file in the "Virtual Memory" dialog box.
6. Set the initial size to the maximum size. (Initial size at least 600 MB - If youhave less than 300 MB of memory, we recommend that you set double the sizeof your memory).
7. Confirm with "OK"
6.1.2 Setting the Color Scheme and Font Size
Introduction
The settings for the color scheme and font size are sometimes changedautomatically when you install external programs. With certain color schemes andfont sizes, this can lead to the faceplates being displayed incorrectly.

You can correct the settings by making the following entries:
1. Click on the Start > Settings > Control Panel menu command.
2. Double-click on "Display".

6.2.1 Screensavers
The use of a screensaver on the PC on which PCS 7 is installed is notrecommended for the following reasons:
• Processing the screensaver costs CPU time and can lead to system overload.
• The usable memory reduces continuously - some screensavers do not releasethe memory they use.
If you use a screensaver, you should deactivate it when running PCS 7.
6.2.2 Creating Backups
Use the following options to archive project data:
• The backup tool supplied with STEP 7
• PKZIP for Windows supplied on the CD
How to use these tools and the backup options are explained in the followingmanual: Process Control System PCS 7; Software Updates from PCS 7 Versionx.xx to Version y.yy.
6.2.3 Virus Scanners
Using a virus scanner when PCS 7 is running can cause problems with hardwareexpansions.
• When working with WinCC, dynamic virus protection using gatekeepermechanisms is not possible since this can lead to a blockage of the processinterface to the modules.
• We recommend that you run virus tests offline and activate the processinterface only after a hardware reset.
• Do not copy any unchecked data to a PCS 7 component.

6.2.4 Defragmentation Programs
Before starting a defragmentation program, you should return the authorizationsback from hard disk to diskette.
Caution!
The authorization files can be destroyed by defragmentation programs that movefixed blocks.
For more detailed information on handling authorizations, refer to the readme ofthe Authorsw.exe program.
6.2.5 Printer Drivers
Note:
We recommend that you use the printer drivers supplied with the operatingsystem. Using external drivers can lead to printing problems.
6.2.6 Data Exchange
Introduction
It is often necessary to transfer data from one PC system to another.
In PCS 7, the following programs are recommended for this purpose:
• For data exchange at the enterprise level with PCS 7, you can use @PCS7 asthe interface. To use this interface, you require the @aGlance/IT orWeb@aGlance program.
• To allow service personnel to access the PCS 7 PC, you can use the PC-Anywhere program (a minimum version is supplied with PCS 7 - can only beused in the host mode).

These programs allow "remote access". This means that you can do the followingwhen working at other PCs:
• Execute commands and work on configurations
• Run checks

C Points to Note about PCS 7 Authorization
Introduction
Below, you will find notes from the readme file of the authorization diskette that willhelp you to install and use the authorization without any problems and avoid loss ofthe authorization or data.
Formatting, Compressing or Restoring
Do not forget to remove the authorizations before formatting, compressing, orrestoring your hard disk drive, or before installing a new operating system.
If a backup copy of your hard disk contains copies of authorizations, there is adanger that these copies may overwrite the valid installed authorizations when yourestore your backup data to the hard disk and destroy the valid authorizations.
To prevent a valid authorization from being overwritten by a backup copy, removeall authorizations before you make a backup copy or exclude the authorizationsfrom the backup.
Defragmentation
Make sure that you return the authorizations from your hard disk to theauthorization diskette before you use an optimization program to shift fixed blocksof data (defragmentation) on the hard disk (for example, Norton Speeddisk).
Free of Viruses
Note:
You should always carry out a virus check on your programming device or PCbefore installing or removing an authorization.
The authorization diskette must not be write-protected. Since the authorizationdiskette runs without write protection, there is a risk that viruses may betransferred from the hard disk to the diskette.

Defective Cluster on the Hard Disk
The authorization causes a cluster to appear on the target drive which is identifiedas "defective". Do not attempt to restore this cluster.
Using the Emergency Authorization
If you lose the standard authorization, you can install what is known as anemergency authorization on the hard disk. This allows you to use the relevantsoftware package for a further 14 days, during which time you can either obtain anew full (standard) authorization or repair the defective authorization.
If you view the authorizations with the program AuthorsW, you will recognize theemergency authorizations by the "X" in front of the authorization name.

Bus System
Generic term for hardware components and the transmission specification for ↑bus.

Communications Processor - communications module for installation in computersor programmable controllers.

Library
Software package with block types grouped according to common characteristics.Installed with the ES.
A folder for objects that can be used more than once and that is not project-related.Blocks are made available according to certain criteria (block families, alphabeticalarrangement etc.) in block libraries. Different block libraries are used depending onthe target system or particular situation.
M
Messages
A message system is used for the chronological signaling and archiving of sporadicevents occurring in the process at a central location. The cause of a message canbe an event or a message frame.
In general, a distinction is made between operating messages, fault messages,and system messages. Operating messages are used to indicate a status in theprocess. Fault messages are used to indicate a problem in the process. Systemmessages are used to indicate error messages from other applications.
In the message system (Alarm Logging), messages that behave in a similar way(acknowledgment philosophy, color scheme for message states) can be groupedtogether in message classes and message types.
MPI
Multi-Point Interface.
The multipoint interface (MPI) is the programming device interface of SIMATIC S7.This allows programmable modules, text displays, and operator panels to bereached from a central point. Nodes on the MPI can communicate with each other.
O
Office / works management level
Computer-supported enterprise-wide information system of a company.
Operability, permanent
Permanent operability is achieved when only one of two equivalent active systemsis required to handle the operator control and monitoring tasks. Control of theprocess is not affected by the failure of any one operator control and monitoringcomponent.

Operating system
A collective term for all functions which, in conjunction with the hardware, controland monitor the execution of the user programs, the distribution of the operationalequipment among the individual user programs, and the maintenance of theoperating mode (for example standard operating systems MS-WINDOWS, real-time operating system M7 RMOS32).
OS
Operator station. A station for controlling and monitoring the process. In PCS 7, theWinCC software system is used for the OS with which all the process monitoringand control functions can be implemented.
P
PG/PC interface
A configuration tool for installing/uninstalling communication modules,adding/deleting interfaces and assigning parameters to communications modules(for example bus profile, node number etc.).
PROFIBUS
PROcess Field Bus – a fieldbus complying with EN 50170 Vol. 2 PROFIBUS(DIN 19245; bus system for industrial application based on PROFIBUS).
PROFIBUS stands for Process Field Bus. PROFIBUS is an industry standard fornetworking field devices (for example, drives, actuators, sensors). PROFIBUS canbe used with the DP (Distributed Peripheral I/O), FMS (Fieldbus MessageSpecification), and PA (Process Automation) protocols.
Programmable controller (PLC)
A programmable logic controller is a programmable controller (PLC) in SIMATICS7, a complete device (PLC with integrated control unit)SIMATIC C7 or a SIMATIC M7 automation system.
Programming device (PG)
Portable personal computer in a special compact design intended for use inindustry. A PG is fully equipped for programming SIMATIC programmable logiccontrollers.

Establishment of communications connections beyond the boundaries of subnets.
Runtime
Process control; the operator controls and monitors the process on the operatorstation (OS).

Server name
The server name is often required for addressing a computer (PC) in a network.You will find the server name under "Start (Windows NT taskbar) > Settings >Control Panel > Network > Computer Name".
SIMATIC Manager
Graphic user interface for the SIMATIC user under the operating system. Generalstarting point for configuring and programming the SIMATIC S7.
Subnet
Part of a network. The parameters of the nodes in a subnet must match up (forexample, in PROFIBUS). The subnet includes bus components and all theattached stations. Subnets can, for example, be interconnected using gateways toform a network.
T
TCP/IP
Transport Control Protocol / Internet Protocol – a standard for communicationbetween PCs and over the ↑ Internet.
Teleservice
From a central point, it is possible to investigate errors and their causes directly onthe PLC or OS of the customer. The service center is linked by a modem andspecial software ( for example Laplink orPC-Anywhere) in the customer system.
