    WhenSaiaPCDcontrollersareconnecteddirectlytotheinternet,theyarealsoapotentialtargetofcyberattacks.Forsecureoperation,appropriateprotectivemeasuresmustalwaysbetaken.PCDcontrollersincludesimple,built-inprotec-tionfeatures.However,secureoperationontheinternetisonlyensuredifexter-nalroutersareusedwithafirewallandencryptedVPNconnections.

    2.4.1 Cablerouting

    230Vsupplylinesandsignallinesmustbelaidinseparatecablesatleast10cm apart.Evenwithintheswitchingcabinet,itisadvisabletoleavespacebetween power and signal lines. Digitalsignal/buslinesandanaloguesignal/sensorlinesshouldbelaidin separate cables Itisadvisabletouseshieldedcablesforanaloguesignallines. Theshieldshouldbeearthedattheentryorexittotheswitchingcabinet.The shieldsshouldbeasshortaspossibleandofthelargestpossiblecross-section. Thecentralearthingpointshouldbe>10mmandconnectedtothePEground wirebytheshortestroute Theshieldisgenerallyconnectedtoonesideoftheswitchingcabinetonly,unless thereisapotentialequalizationwithsignificantlylowerresistancethantheshield resistance Inductivitiesinstalledinthesameswitchingcabinet,e.g.contactorcoils,shouldbe providedwithsuitablesuppressors(RCelements) Switchingcabinetcomponentswithhighfieldintensity,e.g.transformersor frequencyinverters,shouldbeshieldedwithseparatorplateswithagoodground `connection.

    Surge protection for long distances or external lines Wherelinesarelaidoutsidethebuilding,oroverlongerdistances,suitablesurge protectionmeasuresshouldbeapplied.Forbuslinesinparticular,these measures are essential. Withlineslaidoutside,theshieldmusthaveadequatecurrent-carryingcapacity andbeearthedatbothends. Thesurgeconductorsshouldbeinstalledattheinputtotheswitchingcabinet.

    2.5 Addressing

    Theaddressofamoduleisdeterminedbyitsmodulepositionintheconfiguration(see section 3.4.5).

    PCD2CPUs: Themoduleaddressesbeginatbaseaddress0(zero)on Slot 0 (addresses 0 to 15) and go up in increments of 16 to address127onSlot7,regerdlessofthenumberofI/Os(16,8or4).

    PCD2.C2000 Determinedbythemodulepositionintheconfiguration;alsogoesup and C1000: in increments of 16

    Extensioncablesconnecttheexpansionhousingattheright-handendofarowwiththefirstexpansionhousingattheleftofthenextrow.Theaddressofthefirstmoduleinasecondorthirdrowequalstheaddressofthelastmoduleinthepreviousrow+16.

    Address255isreservedforthewatchdogrelay.Modulesthatusethisaddressmustnotbeinstalledinmoduleposition16.Formoredetails,pleasereferto thesectiononthe"Hardwarewatchdog".

    EachadditionalPCD2.C2000/C1000expansionhousingprovidesspacefor8/4moreI/Omodules.Theconnectiontothenextrowismadeviathe26-coreextenstioncableortheconnector(seesection3.4.3).

    ThePCD2.M5_seriesisbasicallyacombinationofthePCD2housingdesignandcircuitrywithextensivecompatibilityandeaseofupgradingalongwithPCD3technology.TheprovenfunctionsofthePCD2serieshavebeensupplementedwithnewfunctionssuchasUSBand"onboard"Ethernet,andthefacilitytouseflashcardsand/orfutureSDmemorycards(forprogrambackup,filesystemforwebpages,data,documents,etc.).ForeasylabellingoftheI/Osignals,therearepreprintedsheetsthatcanbeprotectedbythetransparentcovering.I/Omodulescanbereconnectedorreplacedwithoutremovingthecentralhousing.
