Jessie Trott Artist Statement 2010
My artwork is a product of my environment. I find nature to be a continuously wonderful source of inspiration.
Natural sculptures such as rock formations are beautiful to me. Rock formations inspire my love for nature and art as one.
Their feeling of power and fragility contrasted with beautiful colours and textures make for an alluring source of inspiration.
I also find light flares, light pollution and grungy urban/ industrial spaces to be just as beautiful.
I like working with mediums that suit my idea’s best, leading me to experiment. I have been studying glass for the past three years and
have grown to enjoy controlling and manipulating hot glass. Though my frustration with glass is that I cannot touch it.
Therefore I also incorporate clay and wax in my studies by casting glass through the kiln casting process. Glass can be a frustrating
medium but I use it to investigate the idea that glass does not always have to have its usual characteristics.
In my rock formation series, I am creating glass objects, which look like stone. Earth, stones and environmental materials inspire me
continuously. Thus I create work, which has the same attributes, to be able to bring a sense of what I adore about the outdoors, in.
