The AACTM Fall Conference is an annual Austin Area conference for K-12 mathematics teachers. Teachers will have the opportunity to attend five sessions of their choosing. Use of technology and manipulatives in classroom instruction are also important components of the AACTM Fall Conference. Dr. John Carter, Keynote Speaker Dr. Carter is the Principal of Westlake High School. Dr. Carter earned his Ph.D. in mathematics education from Illinois State University and served on the NCTM Board of Directors from 2006 – 2009. John received the national Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching (PAEMST) and the Award for Innovation in Mathematics and Science Teaching from “Business Week” Magazine. Carter is a lead author for the K-‐12 McGraw-‐Hill mathematics program. He has also published articles and chapters on mathematics teaching, professional development, and professional learning communities. Dr. Carter was named principal of Westlake High School in 2012. Dr. Carter served as a public school teacher and administrator for 25 years at Community High School of West Chicago, IL and the nationally-‐acclaimed Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill. During his time at Adlai E. Stevenson, Dr. Carter worked as a mathematics teacher and curriculum team leader, Director of Mathematics, Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning, and Principal.
