UNIVERSITY 1 (U1)· Students should consider applying to University 1 (U1) if they

are seeking a flexible first year in which they can balance or blend requirements for one or more programs of interest.

· U1 is also ideal for students who do not meet the higher admission requirements required for Direct Entry admission to a specific faculty, or who are interested in Advanced Entry programs that admit students only after some prior university study (e.g., Nursing, Environmental Design).

· U1 does not add extra time or cost to a degree and serves as year 1 of any 3 or 4 year degree program.

DIRECT ENTRY· Students can apply for Direct Entry admission to specific faculties

(such as Engineering or Business) if they are confident this is to be their program of study, if they meet the specific admission requirements for the program, and if they want to take advantage of program-specific advising and supports.

· Students who apply for Direct Entry admission but do not meet the admission requirements for their chosen program will be automatically admitted to University 1 (provided they still meet the U1 admission requirements)–no second application is required.

COLLEGESColleges provide facilities and programs to create a community within a community for U of M students. For a nominal fee (usually under $20), students can join one of our four colleges – St. John’s College, St. Paul’s College, St. Andrew’s College, or University College – and take advantage of exclusive scholarship support, access to unique study space, and smaller class sizes. Services, facilities and available financial supports vary by college.

INDIGENOUS COMMUNITYThe U of M is home to a thriving community of more than 2,400 First Nations, Metis and Inuit students. Migizii Agamik – Bald Eagle Lodge serves as a home away from home for Indigenous students and houses the Indigenous Student Centre where students can meet with Indigenous academic advisors to receive academic, cultural, career and personal advice. Public speaking and mentorship programs give students the confidence and know-how to become leaders in their community, while the Qualico Bridge to Success Program helps new Indigenous students transition from high school to university with summer programming and Indigenous academic labs for introductory classes. Students overcoming social, economic, geographic and academic barriers can also take advantage of our Access Program for academic, financial and tutoring support.
