A pat on the head Dear Parents I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a Happy Easter and for those who are travelling please drive safely. The celebrations in the parish are open to all members of our community. Today at school we took the children through the Easter story in drama and song. The generosity of our families is wonderful. The collection from Project Compassion has just passed $2 000. Very Important Meeting The meeting of interested parents and community members concerning the establishment of our Catholic College (John Paul College) will take place in our school hall next Wednesday evening at 7.00pm. Please come along and listen and ask questions about our new school. Mothers’ Day We shall once again run a Mothers’ Day stall for our children at Mother Teresa. From next week we encourage children to bring in gifts suitable for giving on Mothers’ Day In the week leading up to Mothers’ Day children bring in $5 to purchase a gift for mum from the donated gifts. A proportion of the money raised will be donated to help Kasey who is suffering from a rare disease. Please see the letter on page 2. Easter BBQ We are running the Magnet Mart BBQ on this Easter Saturday. There will be drinks and sausages for sale. Please come along and support our school and if you have some spare time you might be able to help with some cooking and selling during the day. Weeds, Weeds and More Weeds This weather has suited the growth of an enormous number of weeds in our garden. We would be most grateful if any families have any spare time to give to removing our weeds from gardens over the Easter break. We have some mulch that can be spread over the weeded gardens. Working Bee On Saturday May 5 we shall have a working bee at Mother Teresa to weed and give the school a general clean up and make over. Please put this morning aside if possible. Community Council Vacancy I have received three nominations to fill the vacancies that have occurred on the Community Council. Nominations will formally close next Friday April 13. We were sad to hear that Simone Sharples will be leaving the Council. Simone will be leaving with her family for work in Hong Kong. Hi my name is Caroline Evans, My daughter Leanne is in Year 3. My beautiful great niece Kasey Kelly is a happy one year old girl. Kasey was born on the 31/12/2010. She was just 10 months old when she fell ill with vomiting symptoms. She was admitted to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin and after various tests, on the 6th of November 2010, we were given the devastat-ing news that Kasey had a rare brain tumour called Atypical Teratoid/Rhaboid Tumour, ATRT. Our whole world fell apart!! This type of tumour is very aggressive and extremely rare worldwide. Approximately 1 in every 1.1 million children born each year. Kasey was given a survival rate of 10%. As you can imagine, this was heartbreaking news for us as the treatment is not advanced here. We got in touch with an ATRT Specialist in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, who is an expert in the treatment of this type of tumour and she is willing to treat Kasey and give her a better chance of survival. Dr. Susan Chi is optimistic Kasey will respond well to the treatment. As a family we were overjoyed to receive this news as there is little hope here in Ireland for her as there is no available treatment. Kasey’s treatment will cost several thousand euros as well as other expenses ie. Travel, ac-commodation, maintenance etc. As you can see the enormous cost of Kasey’s treatment is way beyond our means as a family, but we are determined to highlight Kasey’s condition, and we will be starting a campaign of fundraising events to try raise the much needed funds for Kasey’s treatment. You may have read a story about a little girl called Megan Malone who was given little hope also and was in a similar position as Kasey. She has since returned to Ireland from Boston cancer free. On this basis we are optimistic Kasey will have the same outcome. Mr Lowe and the Community Council have kindly agreed to hold the Mother’s day stall and raffle in May for Kasey to raise some much needed funds for Kasey’s treatment in Boston. I will be selling raffle tickets after the Easter break and there are some lovely prizes to be won. I would be eternally grateful for all your support and help. Thank you for your support. Caroline Evans

Mrs Addinell said all of the students represented the school with pride and tried their best. Some of our swimmers did exceptional-ly well and have made the ACT carnival. These students will have their names in the newsletter next week, we are just waiting on the official results. A big thanks to Mrs Addinell and all of the parents who supported the children at the AIS.

HOLY WEEK LITURGIES Thank you to all students and teachers for pre-senting such wonderful Holy Week liturgies. The re-enactments helped everyone to remember the journey and struggle for Jesus and the joy-ous event of Easter where He rose to new life. As always our parents have been a wonderful support at the various liturgies. Thank you!

Have a safe and Happy Easter! Peace and Best Wishes

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS:

The value we are focussing on for the next two weeks is: TOLERANCE FOCUS ASSEMBLY Thank you to Miss Jefferies and Year One Amber for presenting an inspiring focus assembly on how we can shoe tolerance at Mother Teresa School by doing some of the following:

Including others Being patient Displaying compassion & Allowing others to be themselves

CARITAS AUSTRALIA’S PROJECT COMPASSION At Mother Teresa School, we are trying to reach out to others and bring hope to those who are less fortunate than ourselves during this time of Lent A very big thank you to everyone for your gener-ous donations to Project Compassion this year. According to Mr Lowe we have raised over $2,000 he could hardly lift the bags! Well done and congratulations everyone. KINDER FAMILY MASS Thank you to all the families in Kinder who at-tended the Palm Sunday Family Mass last week-end. It was great to see you there! The children did a fantastic job in processing in with the palms and the beautiful way in which they sat reverent-ly in mass is also to be commended EASTER PRAYER Lord, you have arisen forever In my heart! May the sunrise Remind me to shine in your light. May the caress of a gentle breeze Remind me of your compas-sion. May the fragrance of a flower Remind me to blossom in your love. May the singing of birds Bring a song of joy to my lips. And in the closing of each day May I remember to quietly pray. Wherever I am, whatever I do May my thoughts in joy return to you!

Susan Helene Kramer

I hope everyone has seen the new addition to our outdoor area. Our new cubby house finally arrived on Friday afternoon last week. The children waited all day, and were very keen to watch the construction once it got underway. Now it is all fully installed the chil-dren are having a fantastic time playing in it. We have also just had vinyl wet areas put in two of our classrooms. This is a much needed improvement and the children will greatly benefit from the enjoyment of these areas. Meanwhile in the classrooms there has been much preparation for Easter. The children have been learning and perfecting their song for our part of the Easter liturgy which will take place on Tuesday. They also made Easter baskets, ready for a visit from the East-er Bunny! The children had great fun finding all the eggs that were hidden. In the Yellow Seahorses their discussions on keeping fit moved to healthy eating. They talked about ‘always’ and ‘sometimes’ food, and looked at the food pyramid. They have also been busy in the block corner, where the children used a picture of Parliament House to build their own version. They then added a flag that they had drawn, together with some trees that they cut out and stuck to the blocks. It was a great representation. The Purple Starfish have been using the ipads to learn new games and listen to stories. The children have been taking turns and negotiating together to solve problems. They have also been trialling indoor/outdoor play with the Yellow Seahorses. The Blue Whales have been reading the Easter story and working on their Easter craft. In the Red Jellyfish they have hatched out an egg! There was much discussion about which animal may be inside, there were some suggestions that it may be a rooster! However it turned out to be a chicken! They have also been discussing the Easter story. In between preparing for Easter and hunting for eggs the Green Turtles have been prac-tising for their assembly, which is next Wednesday. As the end of term approaches it would appear that a number of hats and jumpers have gone missing and not found their way back again. I would ask if all parents could just check the names in all their child’s uniform to ensure that they have the correct clothing. I wish you all a happy and safe Easter and hope the Easter Bunny is good to you! Thank you for your continued support, Clare Addinell and the ELC Team
