Applications
The Advantages of Nickel
• Nickel is Magnetic.
HCA-1 is a nickel flake that has an irregular, plateletshape with an aspect ratio approaching 20 to 1. Thethickness of the flake is about 1 micron. HCA-1 is heattreated in a controlled atmosphere to remove surfaceoxidation for enhanced conductivity.
HCA-1 is an excellent choice for solvent and waterbornepaint formulations using acrylic, urethane, epoxy andvinyl polymer systems. HCA-1 is widely used in EMI/RFIshielding coatings for electronic components. Otherapplications include conductive inks, adhesives andanti-static floor coatings.
• Particle Shape: High purity nickel powder is flakedin a ball mill to a thickness of about 1 micron. Thisproduces a high surface area flake that results inmany point-to-point contacts and maximizeselectrical conductivity.
• Chemical Properties: Nickel is extremely resistant tooxidation and corrosion. It has advantages over othermetals that form surface oxides over time whichresults in reduced conductivity.
• Enhanced Conductivity: The surface of HCA-1 is heattreated in a controlled atmosphere which has beenproven to improve conductivity.
• Metallic Appearance: Coatings made with HCA-1are smooth with a gray metallic look.
• Waterborne Coatings: Unlike competitive materials,HCA-1 is stable in water based coatings.
