It’s been months of headline in the newspapers, social media sites and one of the trending topics calling for Pnoy to step down from his position. It was worsen be-cause of the recent Mamasapano clash in Mindanao that left 44 Special Action Force (SAF) soldiers dead during the attack on 25th of January 2015. He was blamed be-cause of the tragic death of the troops. Allegations in failure of coordination were thrown at him. The question still remains, should Pnoy be forced to resign? Before pointing fingers on Pnoy, Ang Tanglaw digs deeper and weighs the facts first.

It’s been four years and counting since President Benigno S. Aquino III be-gan his term as the 15th President of the Philippines succeeding Gloria Macapa-gal-Arroyo. And since then, his effort to help improve the lives of his fellow Filipi-nos is seen because of the accomplish-ments in his administration. The corrupt politicians were known and have been on trial because of Pnoy. The pork barrel scam was revealed because of him. He also made educational reform by imple-menting the K-12 curriculum. He sup-ported the reproductive health bill. And it was also because of his administra-tion that led the renovation of the NAIA.

Ang Tanglaw believes that he should not resign because of the im-provements they saw compared to the stagnant economy of Arroyo administra-tion. It also adds that he is currently at the peak of his leadership. Ang Tanglaw be-lieves that he should not resign because there is no one qualified yet that fits the position as the next president of the Phil-ippines. Ang Tanglaw agrees to the quali-fications stated by Senator Miriam Defen-sor Santiago in an interviewed regarding her ideal president where she said, “My

qualification is the president must be honest, have professional ex-cellence, academic excellence.”

If he is to resign, who will replace him? It can’t be Sen. Miriam Santiago because of her health condition nor Vice President Jejomar Binay because of his corrupt-related controversies chasing him and the members of his family. It can’t also be Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. because of his connection in the pork barrel scam.

Problems of a leader makes him a mere imperfect person. When a President makes an error, criticisms can be very scornful. Protests and rallies can happen calling out for some action. This just shows signs of democracy and does not justify the resignation of the President. But this is the time where the he listens to them.

The death of the 44 SAF troops was a heartrending loss. But we must not for-get that the bullets that killed these men came from the MILF. President Aquino sure is the Chief Executive, but it would be unfair to pin down the actual death on him.

Valuing free choice and our con-stitution are the most convincing reason against forced resignation in a democratic country. The people chose President Aqui-no to lead this country. The people asking for his resignation may just be as many, if not less, as those wanting his retention.

We must be cautious in voicing our sentiments about this heartrending in-cident and the greater picture it affects. We must be aware of our limitations to where we should agree with politicians and groups. Failure to draw the line be-tween facts and opinions might be a big-ger disaster for us and for the country. #

Ang Tanglaw publishes Pagsibolby Ella Jemimah T. Omapoy

Before then, the idea of publish-ing a literary folio was brought up by the Ang Tanglaw staff S.Y 2013-2014. How-ever, the dream wasn’t made into a real-ity. Instead, they published three issues of the school newsletter for the first time in Philippine School (Bahrain)’s history.

This year, a folio was created as a simple class project integrating the se-nior students’ talents in literature. The end products amazed everyone who saw them. So, Ang Tanglaw thought of tak-ing it a step further and look at an even bigger scale. Right before this, the Ang Tanglaw and the Languages Department came up with the Project DREAM or the Developmental Reading for Effective Academic Mastery. The project aimed to encourage students to develop their reading and literary skills. From students’ writing outputs, they compiled the best ones and merged them into one folio.

The Literary Folio was conceived from a dream. Being a part of a history is not something that all of us can experi-ence. To release a publication takes tre-mendous efforts and hard work. As Philip-pine School (Bahrain) celebrates its 20th founding anniversary, they also unveil the talents that they have in school. Incorpo-rating their talents, they have established the first literary folio in twenty years. #

Grade 7 students pose with smile upon receiving their copies of the literary folios.

“Pagsibol” is a Filipino word meaning “sprouting”. Much like how a plant’s source of energy is the sun’s light, the Ang Tanglaw’s glow empow-ers the Pagsibol, allowing it to bud into a beautiful piece of literary art.

Months of compil-ing, selecting and editing

the best articles were done to cre-ate a literary folio. It is a compilation of different literary pieces like poems, essays, speeches, short stories, draw-ings and photography. The first ever literary folio was released on 17th of March 2015. It took a team of twen-ty eight people to make it possible.

Grade 9 students take part in Career Exposure tripby Wrenz Luwi M. Ouano

The Grade 9 students went on a career exposure trip on February 22 to two different establishments in Bah-rain, the Bahrain Society of Engineers and the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance. Coincidentally, the Bah-rain Society of Engineers were hold-ing an Engineer’s Expo on that day, with sections for the different fields of engineers, from chemical and me-chanical to electrical and electronic.

Ms. Sarah Fareed, from the Ar-chitectural Engineering field, said, “Every field you see here, from the civil engineers to the environmental engineers, they’re all connected. You have to work along with all the types of engineers in this room if you want to become a successful engineer. We’re all just parts of a big machine.”

The Bahrain Institute of Bank-ing and Finance, founded in 1981, is a university that offers courses pur-suing different careers in accounting and finance. The professors at the university gave them a very detailed presentation on the different courses that one could take up at the institute.

All of the Grade 9 stu-dents returned to school with new knowledge on the careers that they can take up in the future. #

A Magical Night at Crowne Plazaby Hans Norbert B. Navarro

Dressed in their elegant gowns and dignified suits, the Seniors and the Grade 9s held their Promenade at the Crowne Plaza Hotel last February 18.

With the theme of Hollywood in Red Carpet, the high school students walk the aisle laden with glitters and stars. It was one of the most anticipated events in the school calendar. It WAS a good way to meet new people, make new friends and reignite old friendships. It fosters camaraderie and friendship among the students while training them to act dignifiedly and elegantly. This year’s promenade is called Annual Promenade 2015. It is so-called because it is the last prom with the last batch of gradu-ating 4th year students. It may be held 3 years from now as Philippine School (Bahrain) implements the K-12 Program.

Young ladies and gentlemen filled the reception with excitement. There was a photo booth where they can have their picture taken like they were a Hollywood star. It started off with the entrances of the Emcees Daud Macapundag and Sandra Secerio. Excited students waited patiently for their turn at the spotlight.

After the entrances, the Invoca-tion was performed by Cyra Pantaleon, Hazel Marqueda, Rohnvince Lardizabal and Wilfred Denolan. Mycah Valencia offi-cially welcomed everyone with the Open-ing Remarks. The Part 2, the bequeathal and the acceptance soon followed. Hans Norbert Navarro bequeathed the Key of Responsibility and was accepted by Hannah Macaraig. Christian Aragon be-queathed the Torch of Wisdom and was accepted by Samantha Sacdalan. Finally, the Book of Wisdom was bequeathed by Eugenie Pranada and was accepted by Ian Villarojo. The Lighting of the Candles was led by Reigh Manuel and Jovianne Francisco. They hoped that the flame will serve as a guide to the Seniors as they venture out in their future endeavors. The Gift Giving was conducted by Wrenz Ouano and Ella Omapoy. The Grade 9s

Seniors pose with their adviser during the Annual Promenade

wished that the Seniors will always re-member them every time they use the gift.

The Seniors and the Grade 9s

sang in unison this year’s Prom Song “With a Smile” by Eraserheads. The Co-tillion was choreographed by Mr. Dante Gamboa. The students spent almost a month practicing their dances. The first was the Swing. It was the liveliest of the 3 dances. Next was the Waltz. Accord-ing to the participants, it was the slow-est and most romantic dance. This year, we have witnessed the addition of the Rigaudon. It is a French baroque dance with a lively duple meter. The partici-pants interacted as one group unlike in the previous dances where the partners are exclusive of each other’s company.

At last, the most awaited part of the event, the dancing, finally com-menced. There were two other types of dancing aside from the typical one. The Lady’s Choice was created to give la-dies a chance to show their appreciation to the gentlemen. The Special Dance is a signed agreement between two peo-ple made prior the Annual Promenade.

Before the night ended, outstanding ladies and gentlemen were given awards. Andre Bouzin was crowned Prom King and Nouf Olaes as Prom Queen. Patrick Ombao was crowned Prom Prince and Sandra Secerio as Prom Princess. Reigh Manuel was awarded Best in Suit for the Seniors while Vince Lardizabal for the Ju-niors. Ella Omapoy was awarded Best in Gown for the Seniors while Hannah Ma-caraig for the Juniors. Alexandrea Gam-boa was named Darling of the Crowd. Mark Reyes was named Heartthrob of the Crowd. Selwyn Cruz was named Mr. Val-entine and Hazel Marqueda Ms. Valentine.

After the clock struck midnight, the Promenade officially ended. Young men and women went home with smiles on their faces. Indeed, this will be one of the treasured moments of high school life. #

Noli Me Tangere:Kanser ng Lipunan the Musical

by Dawn Cyrill B. Aldave

Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) is a novel written by our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, during the colonization of the Philippines by Spain to expose the inequities of the Spanish Catho-lic priests and the ruling government.

Last March 2, the Grade 9 stu-dents showcased their talents in act-ing in their most recent musical play: the Noli Me Tangere: Kanser ng Lipu-nan. The musical play was divided into three parts and distributed to the three different sections. The three sections were given time to prepare their cos-tumes, props, and libretto for the play. Finally, on the said date, the grade 9 students were able to present the play in front of the high school students. #

They had fun and went straight to Bahrain Fort and explored their way inside. The place was like a maze and had tall sculptures and walls.

After that, they took the bus and went to Agri-farm. The farm was full of plants available for sale. They first saw a big place for plant supplies and a greenhouse attached to it. It was pure green, green as nature. There were two other greenhouses that had divid-ers to divide different kinds of plants.

Then, they went to their last destination, the Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Park. They had fun activities and games as they rested in the play-ground. They had a delicious meal to boost their exhausted bodies. Finally, they went back to the school and they had an activity sheet about their great field trip. After a great day of explora-tion, they learned many things. They had fun and treasured great memories. It was an unforgettable experience. #

Elementary school holds Career Dayby John Benedict M. Alianza

Career, what is it? Is this a dream, an imagination, or reality? All I know is that we never know what we want to be. Sometimes, we dream big, others, we realize that we need to work hard for it. This is why PSB has held a pro-gram in order to help the children, us, decide for ourselves. This is the “Ca-reer Day”. Now what is Career Day? Career Day is a program organized by the teachers and certain club members. It aims to help students plan what they want to be or Career Planning. This in-cludes activities that help you know yourself better, know your values, and identify your skills. It implements the research of career options and linkage of your major and your career options. In other words, it helps you improve your career or work choices. So this is what happened last January 22, 2015.

Career Day was launched on Janu-ary 22, 2015 at 7:30 – 11:00 AM in our PSB courtyard. This was done along with the annual achievers day and English Month Culmination. It started out when all students gathered for the parade in the RCA Parking lot. They walked through the gates of the PSB grounds. After that, they gathered at the Philippine School (Bahrain) courtyard. The program started off with a doxology, a prayer in the form of a song, which was led by the Banyu-hay Singers. After was the singing of the national anthems which were also led by the wonderful singing of the Banyuhay Singers. Next was the inspiring message of the intelligent Yasser Mohd. Yousif A, Shah from Grade 4 Maunawain. Be-fore the annual awarding started, some astonishing numbers were made. #

Elementary departmentcelebrates Festival of Talents

by Andrea Jasmin B. Navarro

The Philippine School (Bahrain) celebrated the Festival of Talents last March 16, 2015. This year theme was “Showcasing the Power of Talents and Skills of Globally Competitive Performers. The objective of the event was to provide students avenues to showcase their potentials in academ-ic and skills. Among the contests held in different departments were: Little Chef (sandwich making for KG and pastillas making for primary grades), Tagisan ng Talino/Battle of the Brains, Extemporaneous Speech (English and Filipino), Essay Writing (Eng-lish and Filipino), Song Parody, Bro-chure Making, Movie Making, Poster Making, and Painting/Pintahusay.

Everyone was excited and happy during the event. It was a welcoming break after the strenuous and exhaust-ing final exams. It was also a good time to bond with friends and classmates before the end of the school year. #

My experience in news writ-ing was very fun and interesting ex-perience. It was also challenging for me to submit the articles that I was assigned to do in just a few days.

For me, being a Tanglaw staffer can also be a learning experience. It helps me excel more in my writing skills, grammar, and makes me more active in school ac-tivities, knowing that it might be one of the articles. Being a Tanglaw staffer requires dedication and hard work. It helps me manage my time and helps me be more responsible. It was good working with my friends, and participating on how to ap-proach people through interviews. And finally, getting to see your article in the Ang Tanglaw Newsletter, in that moment, one could see the smiles on our faces, knowing that our hard work paid off.

It was such an honor getting to serve our school through writing. I am glad that we have accomplished many things. As we move up, I hope that Ang Tanglaw will continue to have wonder-ful projects, like the Literary Folio. #

Elementary students participate in PSB fire safety planby Patrick LG V. Caluza

Elementary students actively participatein the fire drill simulation activity

Last February 11, 2015 all the grade levels from Kindergarten to High School had their fire drill activ-ity. The activity was made to teach them what to do when fire occurs.

They do this in a step by step pro-cedure. When they hear the fire alarm, the students should leave the classroom in single file. They should then proceed directly to the assembly point and join their appropriate class or group. After which, they should wait for the signal given by the fire service if the school is safe from fire. The teacher and class mayor will then check and know if the students in his/her class are all present. #

event. In fact, if it wasn’t for the kind-ness of Doctor Shahla, this pro-gram would have not taken place.

There is also one more event which happened, the vaccinations also known as the MMR campaign. It was held in the school lobby to eradicate the cases of measles, mumps, and Rubella. The High School students received their vaccinations on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of February. Grades 1 – 3 got their vac-cinations in the 12th of February, and Grades 4 – 6 on the 15th of February. Both events were successful and very helpful to both students and parents. #

It is very important for our school to help students be aware of their health, and to guide students in the path of living a healthy, nutritious life.

While learning, important events were held regarding everyone’s health care. The free dental checkup took place within three days, the 9th – 11th of Febru-ary in the AVR.
