A THANKFUL HEART A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues. —Cicero

Saint Theresa Parish Mission Statement Saint Theresa’s in Blackstone, MA founded in 1929 is a Catholic Community dedicated to being disciples of Jesus Christ. We strive to provide a loving environment where we can grow in our faith by worshiping God, receiving the Eucharist and giving to others using our talents and gifts. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we are

committed to helping one another by serving those in need both spiritually and physically. Through these works of charity and by reaching out to all about the good news of Jesus Christ, we work to grow our community and become stronger in our faith.

Religious Education Update: The Worcester Diocese has made, November 12th thru November 18th Catechist Appreciation Week! Thank you to all our Catechist and Catechist substitutes for continuing to give your time, faith, and love each week for our parishes youth!! GROWING OUR ALTAR SERVER PROGRAM - Altar Server Meeting & Training: On November 12th Fr. Thien and Toni went through the religious education classes (grades 3 thru grade 10) seeking students who may be interested in being a part of our Altar Server Program. Flyers were sent home with your children as well. If they have not shared them with you, be sure to ask them about it! On November 29th at 6:30pm we are holding an alter Server meeting and training for both potential altar servers and current altar servers. We will be holding a second training for our new altar servers during a religious education classroom session time in December. If you have any questions, please contact Toni at 508-254-3440. Thank you! Religious Education Holiday Food Drive: Our Religious education program is starting their 2nd annual Food Drive for our parishes holiday food pantry this Sunday, November 19th and will run until December 17th. Each week as our students bring in donated items we will keep a tally of how many items have been donated. During our Happy Birthday Jesus Celebration, we will announce the top 2 grades who donated the most! We will be thanking them with a little something for the fun of it. All our program's students will be thanked for their efforts in January by being fed a continental breakfast during a classroom session. Please remember, that our food drive is voluntary to all our students - No Stress!! Why not get the entire parish involved???? For parishioners who do not have children in our program, we invite you to join us in feeding the hungry by dropping off items in the Fr. Lamothe Center (under our Holiday Food Drive sign) or pick up one of the Christmas Grocery Bags which are located at the entrance of the church to fill and return by the end of Mass on December 17th.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Earlier this autumn, we looked at how our Eucharistic Prayers have been enriched by the approval of several new prayers to augment the old Roman Canon. For us, there are the four standard prayers, three for Masses with Children, and the most recent addition, the former Swiss Eucharistic Prayer with four alternative forms (now known as the Eucharistic Prayer for Masses for Various Needs and Occasions).

We also have two Eucharistic Prayers for Masses of Reconciliation. The source for these two prayers is the request by many bishops for a special prayer for the “Holy Year” of 1975. Originally, the committee in charge was commissioned to write a single prayer, but the theme proved so rich that it gave rise to two. The first is based on and develops biblical texts on reconciliation. The second starts with the experience of living in today’s fractured world, and how the Spirit calls us to reconciliation and peace. Not everyone was happy with all this creativity, saying that if too many were published, it would be difficult for the Vatican to control further requests. Everyone thought the pope would put strict limits on the prayers, but in the end he said he was willing to open doors that had long been closed. Although he approved them for a period of only three years, they were never formally removed from the Sacramentary and have been incorporated into the new Roman Missal.
