OUR HEATERS
COME WITH UP TO
INSERT HEATERSInserts are the perfect way to convert an existing open fireplace into a far more efficient and user friendly heat source. All inserts feature an outer shell which ensures that heat is transferred into the room rather than absorbed into the brickwork. They all feature fans which force the hot air out rather than allowing it to travel up the flue.
DO I NEED A FAN?Fans will help circulate larger volumes of warm air, breaking down the layers of hot air that collect at ceiling level. Consequently a wood heater with a fan will heat a room faster than a conventional heater.
RADIANT HEATERSRadiant wood heaters have all sides of the firebox exposed. They are designed for heating large open areas where heat can travel in straight lines. Ideal for rumpus room areas or large open plan homes.
CONVECTION HEATERS Designed with an air cavity between the firebox and the outer skin. This means that the air in the cavity heats up, expands and rises, drawing more air in from below and forcing the hot air out through the top of the heater. A good clean burn convection heater can produce over 3 cubic metres of heated air per minute.
Major factors to consider when it comes to choosing a wood heater are:• Size of your home • Building layout • Number of rooms you’d like to heat• Your priorities between aesthetics and efficiency
Barbeques Galore offers many different options to satisfy every one of these needs.
Choosing a wood heater
CONSTRUCTIONCheck the construction quality of the firebox, as this is the engine of any wood heater. All Norseman and Austwood heaters feature high grade 6mm steel fireboxes while our Saxon heaters are fitted with super strong 8mm steel fireboxes.
ZERO CLEARANCEZero clearance heaters are an option if you want the look of an insert heater but don't have an existing fireplace. Transform any blank wall in your home into a feature insert fireplace without any major structural requirements.
What to know when buying a wood heater...
What is the size of the area you need to heat? Open plan or small rooms connected by hall-ways?
What is the height of the room the wood heater will be in?
Are your ceilings flat or at an angle?
What type of floor coverings are in the room?
What material is the roof made from? Tiled, metal, pitched, flat etc.
Where will the heater be located? Internal or external wall, corner or flat against the wall or in an existing chimney.
What materials are the walls made from? Do you have curtains nearby?
What is the height of the gap in the roof space? Are there any obstructions such as beams that may require an offset?
What is the distance from the peak of the roof to the point where the flue will exit?
Are there power points located nearby for the fan?
Is your home single or double storey?
No other form of heating can match sitting in front of a roaring wood fire. Thanks to the technological breakthroughs of the past few years, wood heaters are now as efficient as they are pleasurable. Today’s clean burning heaters use less fuel and create more heat than ever before.

*All sizes shown in mm unless otherwise stated.
• Air is circulated over the entire surface area of the heavy duty firebox, unlike some manufacturers who only direct fan air across some parts of the firebox.
• Additional vents allow for greater heat circulation, unlike some heaters that force air in only one direction.
• Maximum heat output is distributed gently and evenly into your home.

Five most common forms of installation
Common installation considerations
Once you have selected your wood heater it is just as important to ensure you have selected the right location within your home and that the heater is installed correctly.
A qualified professional should carry out installation as a number of serious problems can occur. The diagrams below show the five most common forms of installation.
• Consider the position of your wood heater
• After the wood heater’s position has been decided on, the flue system is then installed
• The flue system must be flashed (sealed) at the point where it exits the roof lining
While most heaters are installed without issue there are always exceptions to the rule. The diagram on the right illustrates the most common issue; getting the flue height correct to avoid issues such as down drafts. All wood heater installations must meet the latest version of the Australian installation standards, ASNZS2918.
The minimum height for the wood heater installation is 4.6 metres from the bottom of the heater to the top of the flue. However, there are circumstances that require the flue to be extended.
• The flue needs to extend from the exit point of the roofline by a minimum of 1 metre
• If the flue is within 3 metres of the roof’s peak then it needs to be extended beyond that point by a minimum of 1 metre
• If the flue is within 3 metres of the neighbour’s roof then it needs to be extended beyond the highest point by a minimum of 1 metre
By ensuring that these simple measures are taken you can enjoy the use of your wood heater without the hassle of down drafts or annoying your neighbours with smoke from the flue.
Installation requirements are adhered to by professional installers and therefore to avoid any issues it is best to use a qualified installer.

*Insert wood heaters are not zero clearance appliances, which means they must not be installed in timber stud walls or within an enclosure made of combustible materials. Insert heaters can
only be installed into an existing masonry fireplace or a full masonry enclosure. Installation specifications are a guide only and are subject to change. All insert heaters must be installed in a
full masonry cavity and to the latest version of AS/NZS 2918 specifications. In general - no combustible material should be closer than 600mm above the hot air outlet or 300mm from the
sides of the outer side of the heater box. Refer to the appliance installation manual for all clearances and procedures prior to installation. Zero Clearance – Details provided in this brochure
regarding the installation of a zero Clearance system are for information purposes only and should not be relied upon as full installation instructions. Heating performance may reduce as a result
of vaulted ceilings, drafts, large glassed areas or poor insulation. At Barbeques Galore we are continually striving to improve our range of heaters, accessories and spare parts. We reserve the
right to change specifications without notice. Some products may not be available at all stores. ABN 93 001 354 454. MARCH 2016.
